Colossus actor Stefan Kapicic praises Deadpool 2 casting Josh Brolin as Cable. Ever since fans learned that Cable and Domino will be coming to the X-Men universe for Deadpool 2, there has been speculation over who would play the time-travelling mutant. Pierce Brosnan was reportedly a frontrunner for quite a while, despite the actor’s protests that these rumors were ‘completely fabricated’. Other names tossed around included Brad Pitt, Michael Shannon, and David Harbour.
After months of rumors, Domino’s casting was the first to be announced last month, when Zazie Beetz officially got the part. Finally, a Cable casting announcement followed earlier today, when fans learned that none other than Josh Brolin will be joining the cast of the Deadpool sequel. The news was met with excitement from all sides, with both Rob Liefeld (Cable’s creator) and Ryan Reynolds welcoming Brolin aboard. Now, another member of the Deadpool cast has weighed in – Colossus.
Stefan Kapicic, who plays Colossus in the franchise, has responded enthusiastically to the casting, praising Brolin’s work and calling him a “perfect fit” for the franchise in an interview with ComicBook.
I’m so excited about this casting, it’s the perfect casting for Cable. I’m a huge fan of Josh Brolin’s work. He’s an awesome actor and I’m totally excited to start working with him. It’s gonna be an amazing road for the X-Force movies, having someone like Josh brolin to lead the franchise. Cable is one of my favorite characters and this is really something I was hoping for.
He’s an unbelievable actor and a perfect cable. I think Fox made a perfect choice with Josh Brolin and I think that’s the spice we need for a sequel for Deadpool. Everything else about the movie was perfect, and this was the only missing piece that we now have. I’m so proud to be a part of this cast.
On one side, his looks [make him perfect]. I can totally see him as Cable, visually. On the other side there’s his temperament – that’s what I think of when i think of Cable. He’s got a bad-ass attitude and he’s a complex character. We needed somebody with those unbelievable skills to play him in the movie and Brolin is such a layered actor that can play anything and everything.
Of course, it’s not too surprising to hear Kapicic welcoming Brolin to the franchise so warmly – not only is Brolin a phenomenally talented actor, but it would be incredibly surprising to hear an actor say anything negative about a new face joining their franchise. Still, the length of his response and the detail that he goes into show that he is not just saying the appropriate things for the sake of appearances, and that he is truly excited to be working with Brolin in the future.
It’s likely that the other major cast members will be weighing in with their own welcomes soon, so look out for comments from Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead) and of course, Zazie Beetz.
