For a decade, Ryan Reynolds and company did everything in their power to convince Fox to green-light Deadpool. 20th Century Fox finally pulled the trigger and released the film earlier this year - and was met with the resounding sound of applause from fans and critics alike. This is why it was hardly a shock to anyone who stuck through that film's credits to learn that Deadpool 2 is on the way, and it will feature Cable. While he is the big gun that fans are looking forward to seeing debut, Domino has also been reported to be making her big screen debut in the sequel.
Deadpool 2 still sits without an official release date, but is moving through the pre-production process of writing the script and filling out the cast. In order to do so, Fox needs to audition actors and actresses they are considering for new roles - which has now led to a list being released of six ladies in contention to land the role of Domino.
Collider is reporting that Fox is currently auditioning or will soon audition the following list of actresses to play Domino: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), Lizzy Caplan (Now You See Me 2, Masters of Sex), Sienna Miller (Burnt, American Sniper), Sofia Boutella (Star Trek Beyond, Kingsman: The Secret Service) Stephanie Sigman (Narcos, Spectre), and Sylvia Hoeks (Overspel, Blade Runner 2049). [Update: Collider is reporting more actresses are up for the role, including Mackenzie Davis (Halt and Catch Fire), Ruby Rose (Orange Is the New Black), Eve Hewson (The Knick), and Kelly Rohrbach (Baywatch).]
Fox is clearly looking at a wide ranging group of actresses to play what could be the female lead in the film, depending on how heavily involved Morena Baccarin is as Vanessa for the sequel. Regarding this group of contenders, Winstead is arguably among the most deserving of the role - assuming she's interested. She recently turned in a well-received performance in 10 Cloverfield Lane and will appear on the hit TV series Fargo for its third season. She has already shown interest in superhero-related films, via her role in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and even Sky High, so a role such as Domino in Deadpool 2 seems to lie in her wheelhouse.
Whoever is cast as Domino will also depend on the version of the character featured in Deadpool 2. Cable's casting may also play a factor in this decision, seeing as Domino and Cable are typically in a romantic relationship. With both characters being brought in for this movie, Deadpool 2 could even set up Domino and Cable to eventually appear in X-Force down the road. It should also be noted that actresses of different nationalities are being tested, with the shortlist including American, British, Dutch, Mexican, and French actresses alike. That is to say, it's encouraging to see that a relatively wide range in talent is being drawn from here.
