Scenes during and after the credits have become a regular thing in comic book movies. Some of them have simply been a bit of humor, such as the schwarma eating scene in The Avengers or dancing Baby Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. Meanwhile, 20th Century Fox's mutant universe has utilized post-credits scenes to set up the next movie on the studio's X-Men slate - such as the introduction of En Sabah Nur in the after credits scene of X-Men: Days of Future Past, setting the stage for X-Men: Apocalypse.

Deadpool of course had to do things its own way. The credit scene mostly consisted of Deadpool encouraging audiences to leave the theater. But he did offer one big tease, which was that Deadpool 2 would include the popular character Cable. Ever since, the casting possibilities for the character have been a hot topic of conversation. As Deadpool pointed out, physically the role requires a big guy with a flat top and suggested Mel Gibson or Dolph Lundgren. But there are more potential contenders out there and one spoke up recently on Twitter.

Comic book writer and artist Rob Liefeld tweeted to an actor he thinks should read for the role of Cable - Russell Crowe. Crowe's response was interesting. He didn't state whether he wanted the role or not, but instead pointed out an element of Liefield's language that he was not a fan of. Take a look at their exchange:

I should read for it? https://t.co/kLONW0gBGI— Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) February 24, 2017

I'm sure if @VancityReynolds has any interest in that idea he'll find a way https://t.co/KFUC6fIxjS— Russell Crowe (@russellcrowe) February 24, 2017

@russellcrowe @VancityReynolds forgive me sir. It's an absolutely irresistible notion. pic.twitter.com/Cw3Yq2grjX— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) February 24, 2017

Based on his comment, it seems Crowe didn't feel like he should have to audition for Cable. Actors who have achieved his level of success and fame don't often have to audition, they are offered roles directly. Liefeld admitted that his word choice was poor and apologized, at which point Crowe made it sound like he would consider an offer, if he received one.

Crowe certainly fits the role physically, and it sounds like he's willing, if Deadpool star/producer Ryan Reynolds and Fox want him to take the part. Liefeld apparently couldn't resist one more push, sending the tweet to Reynolds as well.

Yes, Crowe looks the part, and has lots of experience playing tough guys like Cable. Seeing him side by side with the wisecracking Deadpool might just be the right idea. He's not the only name being tossed around however, Pierce Brosnan, Kyle Chandler, and Stephen Lang have all been discussed as well. No one has been announced yet, so it could be any of them. Or someone no one has considered yet. Only time will tell.
