If you know anything about superhero movies, you know that one of the most hotly anticipated sequels is 20th Century Fox's upcoming Deadpool 2. The follow-up to Ryan Reynolds' raunchy, critically acclaimed comic book adaptation is slated for early 2018, and should start shooting this summer. Until then, fans are clamoring for news about the film's evolving cast.

Since Deadpool 2 will introduce new (anti-)heroes like Domino, Juggernaut, and Cable, fans have been excitedly waiting to hear who will take on these beloved roles. Just a few weeks ago, Ryan Reynolds announced that Atlanta actor Zazie Beetz will portray Domino. Now, everyone is wondering who will be cast as Cable, as the film will reportedly revolve around his antics with the titular hero, à la the Cable & Deadpool comics. Names like Michael Shannon, Pierce Brosnan, and even Nathan Fillion have been tossed around for months now, but it looks like the role could go to an unexpected A-lister: Brad Pitt.

An anonymous source leaked what looks like Deadpool 2 concept art on Reddit earlier today. The art in question undeniably shows Brad Pitt as Cable, as well as established cast member Zazie Beetz as Domino. These pics seem pretty legit, since they appear to be pictures of actual printouts titled "Visual Treatment - Love Machine" (Love Machine is the film's working title) -- but we'll let you judge for yourself. You can check out one of the most telling concept art, below, and zip over to Reddit to eyeball the rest.

Murmurs of Brad Pitt's casting have been floating around Hollywood and fan circles for some time now, but without any real evidence to back them up. These images lend some potentially damning credibility to those rumors, which included reports that Pitt has been looking to play a superhero role. Screen Rant's recent interview with Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick revealed that the film has cast a "heavyweight" who is diverse enough to hold his own against Deadpool's wacky persona, and Pitt would certainly fit the bill. According to Comicbook.com, Pitt has been a favorite for the role alongside competing actor Michael Shannon. An official casting announcement is reportedly imminent.

There probably aren't many fans who would be disappointed to see Brad Pitt take on the mantle of Cable, as the actor remains beloved in the industry despite his recent high-profile divorce. A superhero role would definitely mark a change for Pitt, who has chiefly adopted dramatic roles throughout his career. The actor made waves as Aldo "The Apache" Raine in Quentin Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, a role which proved he has the ability to balance comedic absurdity with dramatic gravitas -- and, of course, kick ass. While it could have been cool to see an up and coming actor make his big break as Cable, this role will likely go to a big star like Pitt. It would be awesome to see such a renowned actor step into the superhero world, and Pitt is certainly talented enough to make that leap.

While these are just murmurs for now, it's likely only a matter of time before 20th Century Fox confirms or denies this concept art. Keep your eye on Screen Rant for more Cable casting news, as it develops.
