Warner Bros. has a critical hit on its hands with Wonder Woman, and a new rumor says the studio want 3 or 4 DCEU films hitting theaters every year. After a slow and divisive start, things are looking up for the DC Extended Universe. As every major studio continues to look for its own mega franchise and cinematic universe, Warners is trying to challenge Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though both revolve around beloved and obscure comic book characters, the approaches have been radically different.

As many believe Warners needs to "catch up" to the MCU, the DCEU has quickly expanded its world by bringing Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad to theaters, largely skipping the origin story. Not only is the approach to the storytelling different, but Warners has made it no secret it aims to put multiple films out a year, we just didn't know this many.

On a new episode of Heroic Insider, host Umberto Gonzalez of The Wrap gave some insight into what he has heard to be the mindset at the studio in terms of how many films they want to make. This is far from confirmed at this point and Umberto chose to disclose the information here instead of in an official report, but the rumor from him is that the studio may ramp up production to see 3 or 4 films could come out per year in the near future.

"A lot of people been asking me what's the next movie in 2018-2019. I know for a fact DC is trying to get 3 to 4 movies made a year moving forward."

Considering Warners has yet to discuss its slate too far into the future, this may be a goal that is still a few years away. As of right now, the studio is only making two films a year. Warner Bros. released two last year, and have already released Wonder Woman a few weeks ago, with Justice League still to come. The latter is currently undergoing reshoots, making it still technically in production, while the only other movie currently filming is Aquaman -- and that's currently the only film scheduled to hit theaters in 2018.

Making the jump to three films a year is not out of the question, but immediately jumping to four would be rather ambitious. If either does become a reality in the immediate future, fans of the studio's properties will likely not be complaining, though. Thankfully, if the studio does make a point of having 3 to 4 films in production starting in 2018, there will be no shortage of options.

The Batman is already confirmed to start filming early next year, while other projects like Gotham City SirensBatgirlWonder Woman 2ShazamSuicide Squad 2Man of Steel 2The Flash, or Green Lantern Corps could all be in position to do the same at some point next year. There is no way Warners actually puts all of these films into production in the same year, but this just goes to show they have plenty of options not only to make this work now, but for it last for a while. However, until the studio or someone involved comes out and says this is the goal, continue to think of this as just a rumor.
