watchmen sequel prequel Confirmations & Denials on Batman 3, Watchmen 2 & Superman

Watchmen 2 Not Happening

Another major rumor popping up recently regarding DC and Warner Bros. is the news that they may be interested in pushing for a sequel to Watchmen. While this this seemed unlikely to some and not a good thing for those of us who love the original for what it is as a standalone story, there was evidence explaining how this could be.

Adding to the reports denying this could happen though, we have yet another denial, this time from DC President Diane Nelson:

“No, that’s all rumor… I’m not sure where it came from. We’ll be looking closely at our whole library and making sure we’re looking for opportunities to mine every property where it makes sense, and with integrity, but that’s just rumor… No, there are no plans to do that”

This is a much stronger denial than the Chris Nolan-Superman thingĀ  but the interesting part here is when she says “with integrity” which tells me she understands that making another Watchmen goes straight against the wishes of its creators. Don’t count on another Watchmen movie happening just yet as we already know director Zack Snyder and the cast will likely have no part of it.

That being said, she is open to mining “every property” if there’s money to be made. If another book is made as a prequel, sequel or spin-off to Watchmen against Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ wishes at some point in the future, as our own Kofi Outlaw points out, a movie wouldn’t be out of the question to follow. The now well-known name/brand, the success of having been the great selling graphic novel of all time, and a movie that performed decent but was loved by geeks are something that can easily be taken advantage of from a business perspective.

Would your curiosity take the better of you if Watchmen 2 became a reality? Is Diane Nelson hiding something about Christopher Nolan and what DC movie news do you expect to hear in the coming months?

The one DC Entertainment flick we can count on, Green Lantern, opens June 17, 2011. Director Martin Campbell and his award-winning crew get to work on it next month.

  1. I agree about Watchmen and Jude Law as well. I could definitely see him being the Riddler.

  2. giijamesbavel

Since when was Batman supposed to be scary? lol

please name all the great original movies coming out. your points all have no foundation. try backing them up with some examples or something.

And sorry but you're the only one who wants to see that version of Batman or Superman so good luck with that one. The rest is not recycled drivel if you have good taste.

  3. Good to hear the movie was one of the few that stayed true the comic. That being said, it still bore the hell out of me….

    • If it did stay true to the comic then maybe Alan Moore wouldn’t have refused to be credited.

  5. I love to know when the next Batman movie is going to released
DC great job. tell me more about also superman if it going to be another movie or
not. Love the new Superman Return. hoping to see another one

  6. hey i love it
just inform me when the new Batman 4 (the darkside of the mind). Also the
new Superman Return is amazing, i wonder if there would be another Superman movie
    inform me also pliz

    ah DC, your fantastic
    luv ya….

  7. I KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT who the main villian will be
because he was in the Dark Knight
its the riddler! Anyone remeber Mr. Reece ? He is a carbon copy of the character from the comic
first of all MR. REECE = mysteries
    second…hes a red head!
third, he KNEW Bruce was batman but was to scared to try anything (though he was very greedy and criminal like in his intentions)
The riddler wont be a fighter, Batman we'll spend half the film just trying to figure out WHO the riddler is, there WILL be action but it will more or less be a mystery film

Oh and remeber how the Joker “created” two face so to speak?
He did the same thing to Mr. Reece, remeber?
The joker showed Reece the “ugly side” of Gotham, he showed him people are willing to kill him to save themselves (so naturally he has a grim outlook of Gotham)
the joker is dead but his master plan was to craft to more problems for Batman
    Dent and Reece
you just watch, im right, i know i am
(trust me im good with this stuff)

    • Wroooooooooong.

      • Sooo Wrong!! :):)
