‘Doctor Who’s’ David Tennant Wanted For ‘Fast and the Furious 6′

Casting rumors for the sixth Fast and the Furious flick (a.k.a. Fast Six) have been coming… well, fast and furious over the past week. While stories about pop star-turned actress Rihanna joining the franchise seem unlikely, recent news pegging Luke Evans as possibly playing the film’s villain are more substantial. Similarly, series alum Michelle Rodriguez is confirmed to return, while MMA expert Gina Carano appears to also be a lock.

The latest big name, said to be in the running to sign on for the sixth installment in the street racing movie series, is fan-fave Scotsman David Tennant. However, the Doctor Who alum and Fright Night star is far from being “officially in negotiations” right now; rather, Tennant has supposedly chatted casually with director Justin Lin about the idea of the former appearing in the followup to last year’s lucrative Fast Five.

According to Latino Review‘s El Mayimbe (who is generally a reliable source of information), Lin and Tennant have held a series of Skype conversations about the latter coming aboard for Fast and the Furious 6. Whether Tennant’s character in the film would be allied with Fed Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) or Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) – or if the actor is in the running for the same part as Evans – that is currently unclear.

It’s certainly possible that Tennant, Evans and Jason Statham have all been (or currently are) candidates to play some sort of “generic European” baddie in the sixth Fast and the Furious flick. Principal photography on the project is slated to get underway overseas (no pun) sometime next month, so we shouldn’t have to wait too long for an answer (if only a partial one).

Both Evans and Tennant would be welcome additions to the diverse Fast and the Furious core acting crew; still, if it’s a choice between one or the other, most film geeks are likely to favor the latter. Their potential involvement alone is yet another good sign that this new installment aims to please the series’ fanbase by adding more popular stars to the mix – while serving up even more (greater?) adrenaline-fueled thrills and spectacle.

Fast and the Furious 6/Fast Six races into theaters around the U.S. on May 24th, 2013.

  1. David Tennant is one of my favorite actors and a very underrated one IMO, but damn, I just can’t get into the FatF franchise (I’ve said it before: the fast and furious movies are basically pornography for 10 year olds.)
But yeah, if Tennant is in it, then I think I’ll have to give the franchise another shot.

    • thats unfair the last film was great

      • I tried watching the first one and Tokeyo Drift. Didn’t like either.
‘Fast Five’ comes on tv in a few weeks so I’ll catch it then.

        • i dont know why people dont like Tokyo Drift. i liked it until Han scene that p. me off.

  2. david tennant would be awesome for fast six

  3. David Tennant would be awesome in FF6! If they can some how get him and then get Stathem I will peg that film as my most look towards film of 2013 hands down.

  4. I fell in love with him in Doctor Who when i was firt trying the show out and was even more impressed with him in Fright Night…hope this pans out.

    Fast Six – ALLONSY!

  6. They need to bring Lucas Black into another movie already. Han is cool and all, but they can’t keep avoiding “Tokyo Drift.”

  7. Tennant’s fantastic but man, i hope this rumor is false. being in these crappy films won’t do anything for his career. stick to quality stuff please, Tennant.

    • lol, that’s kind of what I was thinking ;)
“Tennant is too good for these movies”.

      • Agreed. Just ‘cuz it’s high budget doesn’t mean it’s good for your craft or your careers, kids.

    • He seriously needs a new agent, lol. From that epic RSC Hamlet movie to this? Oy.

  8. Ok….How are they even going to have a supposedly plot to work from….before they were a bunch of criminals scratching for scores…..After the last one what more do they need?

  9. I could see Tennant as a high strung driver though…He’d definately fit that profile….Sort of an evil genius behind the wheel….But they have to have one of those key chains with a Tartis danggling from it to at seast be shown once in the ignition…..

  10. Sweet i think he would do well in ff6

  11. Awesome! He’s a Great actor!

  12. “You calm down!” – Haris Umair

  13. Man, he is determined to only be in terrible movies in the U.S., isn’t he? lol. So sad considering how immensely talented he is.

  14. I love Tenny, he is an awesome actor so why do this kind of junk movies? Then again, St. Trinian’s anybody… But he is good in whatever he does, that’s what makes him awesome in the first place. He can bring quality to anything. He may be pondering exposure versus quality. Got to earn his beacon somehow.

  15. Sir my name is mohammednavas pls one more acting chance give sir
    I m indian boy
