David Tennant Is The Doctor No Longer

doctor who david tennant David Tennant Is The Doctor No LongerThe 10th and latest actor to portray Doctor Who, David Tennant, says he needs to “take a deep breath and move on now I never will, and you’ll be wheeling me out of the Tardis in my bath chair.

He felt that three years is the exact right time to play the Doctor for him and feels it’s better to leave and be missed than overstay ones welcome.

He will fulfill his obligations to the upcoming Christmas special titled The Next Doctor and four more specials coming up in 2009 but says that he will no longer be the doctor in 2010.

Sad news indeed as he was the most popular Doctor to date and even I enjoyed his portrayal.

He made this announcement after receiving the outstanding drama performance prize at the National Television Awards.

Now the question is, who will be the next Doctor? Who will dare try to fill Tennant’s shoes?  The actors to come up most often out there might be Paterson Joseph or David Morrisey.

Regardless of who plays The Doctor, the executive producer, Russell T Davies, said they’re planning a big ending, like dropping a radioactive piano on his head or something like that. Sounds like some nice dry humor going on there. I’d be careful if I were Tennant!!

Sigh… Why does nothing really good ever last for us, the Sci-Fi audience.

  1. That is sad news indeed. I really liked Tennant’s portrayal of the Doctor. Made SciFi Fridays very enjoyable. I do, however, have faith that Russell T. Davies will pick someone who will also make a great Doctor. The series is greater than the actor, right??

  2. Longest running Sci-Fi show ever. Yep. But still…

  3. Well, we knew it had to happen. The last two doctors have been my most favorite also, and I can’t pick one over the other. I believe Andy S is correct, that Davies will undoubtedly pick someone with the same sort of quirky infectious style of acting to keeps us all coming back for more!

  4. Will Tennant be picking, seeing as he is already leaving?
Personally not a fan of Tennant as the Doctor. Liked him in other things and thought he would be a great choice, but soon got tired of the shouty shouty acting.
But am looking forward to the changes, think things will go well.

  5. Tennant will be missed, he played an excelent Doctor, to bad it was a short run, but no matter who the next doctor is, I’ll still stay faithfull as a Dalek can be.

    Knock knock!
    Whoes there?

  6. Tennant leaving is a serious blow to the show. But it’ll recover. Personally, I hope Carlyle gets the part. Pertwee is the sentimental favorite though.

  7. I was very sad to read this, I just started watching Doctor Who this year, and it has already become my favorite TV show. I think that Tennant is perfect for the role of the Doctor and really hope that they can find a suitable replacement.

  8. David is leaving in 2010 and being replaced by Matt Smith. Matt is only 28 years old! I will really miss David. :-(

  9. I am also a relatively new fan of Tennant as Dr. Who, and just finished watching the special “The End of Time” on BBC America, and my daughter came home from work and caught me crying towards the end of it! It was interesting to see how they made the transformation from Tennant to Smith, but I already miss the “old” Doctor! :) P.S. Seeing the actor from “Life On Mars” (I'm a HUGE fan) being a total jerk-off in the special was a bit vexing.
