Spoilers ahead for Star Wars Darth Vader #29!

In his efforts to bring the forces of Crimson Dawn under his personal control, Darth Vader is about to cross paths with a pirate seemingly connected to the former separatist leader Wat Tambor. If the two are indeed related, Vader may have to face a powerful foe with nothing but revenge on his mind.

Wat Tambor was one of the largest thorns in the Galactic Republic's side. As the leader of the galaxy's Techno Union, he was an early supporter of Count Dooku and the Separatist Alliance. Indeed, Tambor's Techno Union supplied a significant portion of the Separatist Forces' droid army. Tambor's efforts against the Republic spanned the duration of the Clone Wars up to and including the implementation of Order 66. Moreover, Tambor precipitated or was involved in some of the Clone Wars' most important events including the destruction of the Nexus outpost and the invasion of Ryloth. Ultimately however, Anakin slew Tambor in order to hand power to Emperor Palpatine.

In Marvel's Star Wars: Darth Vader #29 by Greg Pak and Luke Ross, in Vader's ongoing effort to seize the criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn, he learns about "events of interest" involving a pirate named Jul Tambor on the planet Skako Minor, a former headquarters of Wat Tambor's Techno Union. According to Star Wars: Doctor Aphra #15, Skako Minor was also the location of Tambor's personal research laboratory. It's unlikely that finding another Tambor on Skako Minor is a coincidence, implying Wat and Jul must be related. This substantially increases the dangers facing Vader if he chooses to engage with a Tambor on or near his home turf. In solicit information shared by League of Comic Geeks, it seems Vader's past actions are coming back to haunt him.

TECHNO (RE)UNION! Three decades ago, Anakin Skywalker slaughtered Wat Tambor, leader of the Techno Union, along with the rest of the Separatist leaders by the command of the Emperor. So who is the pirate JUL TAMBOR, what is he planning on Skako Minor, and what will the Handmaiden, who now stands at Vader’s side, do when it’s her job to choose if Jul lives or dies? Also, which Handmaiden is this? And will this new adventure fulfill Sabé’s dream of derailing Vader’s journey to the dark side—or simply complete it?

Darth Vader's involvement in Wat's downfall and demise is significant. He played a role in every major failure Wat Tambor experienced from the recapture of Ryloth to the foiling of his top secret cyber operation on Skako Minor that produced an algorithm - based on information involuntarily accessed from long-missing ARC trooper Echo's mind - that was capable of predicting the Republic's every move. More importantly, however, was the fact that it was Vader who slaughtered Tampor in cold blood, along with the other members of the Separatist Council to end the Galactic Civil War.

For so long during his life, Tambor schemed and planned to destroy the Republic only to be defeated in no small part by Vader. Nothing would be sweeter than having one of his own family play a part in frustrating Vader's own efforts. The return of a Tambor after so many years to disrupt Darth Vader's plans would be a fitting legacy for the prequel-era villain, and a perfect example of Star Wars' poetic justice.
