Dark Shadows: Burton And Depp Reunited… Again

deppburton Dark Shadows: Burton And Depp Reunited... AgainEvery few years Hollywood has great cinematic pairings: We have had John Ford and John Wayne, Alfred Hitchcock and Cary Grant, Kurt Russell and John Carpenter, Steven Soderbergh and George Clooney and er… Adam Sandler and Frank Coraci.

However we have also been graced with the genius pairing that is Johnny Depp and Tim Burton.

Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd they are Hollywood’s Gothic dream team, and they are about to hit the sound stage again with Dark Shadows – a Depp produced adaptation of the “Gothic soap opera” that ran from 1966 to 1971.

Sounds like something that these guys could make with their eyes closed and their hands tied behind their backs.

I’m a huge Burton and Depp fan, Ed Wood is one of my favorite films, and I love Edward Scissorhands so I’m quite excited by this. In fact anything that Burton touches means that I’m at the cinema and that I have the DVD.

John August is scripting the feature. He previously penned Big Fish, The Corpse Bride and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory so there isn’t a big surprise with this news! Let’s just hope that they bring Danny Elfman along for the ride.

It should be something to look forward to, but I presume that Dark Shadows is a long way off, as August is only working on the script at the moment.
That said, good things come to those who wait.

Then again, I’m pretty sure that I said that about Burton’s Planet of the Apes.

More news as we get it.

  1. Well I liked Burton’s Planet of the Apes. Of course, there’s no comparison between Marky Mark and the legendary Charleston Heston but I did like the movie.

I remember watching Dark Shadows when I was young (some 2 million years ago LOL). I like Johnny Depp as an actor and look forward to this film. I assume he will be playing the lead, Barnabus Collins; it will be strange seeing Depp play a vampire.

  2. This could be a fun movie. I generally like Johnny Depp movies and Tim Burton movies as well (I avoided Sweeney Todd like the plague, though). I can TOTALLY see Depp as a vampire-let’s just hope it’s not Captain Jack Sparrow the vampire. LOL.

  3. No brainer.

  4. If you consider the title,
its almost a warning that 3 years after this film is released the world will end.
    (Or a sequel to 2010.)

  5. Huh…interesting. It’s good that Burton and Depp are still working together, and there certainly isn’t a better team to work on this project.

  6. I am absolutely stoked about this. It’s interesting to see where depp will go with this, perhaps the darkness of Sweeney Todd with the style of Ichabod Crane and the odd flamboyancy of Captain Jack Sparrow? Interesting. In my eyes, neither Depp nor Burton can do any wrong.

  7. I’m surprised this article failed to mention perhaps the most classic of all Hollywood pairings: Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro.

  8. I was going to mention Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, but I didn’t want to make Leonardo DiCaprio jealous!
