In today’s Dark Knight Rises news, we have some new hi-res images from the film to share with fans – who are still buzzing about the recent Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue, as well as the latest Dark Knight Rises trailer, which revealed such goodies as a Robin Easter-egg.
But more than anything else, the one aspect of TDKR that has been causing the most debate is the character of Bane (played by Tom Hardy). From his costume to his muscle size to his hard-to-decipher voice, Bane is the name on the tip of every Bat-fan’s tongue right now.
Nolan’s version of Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, is that of a terrorist leader who arrives on Gotham City’s doorstep to hatch a nefarious plot of mass destruction and socio-political upheaval. When Batman tries to stop him, he finds that in Bane he has truly met a villain who is his equal, both physically and mentally.
The photos below aren’t “new,” per se: They were actually featured in a recent issue of Empire and scans of the photos have been making their way around the Internet for weeks now. Of course, magazine pics and scanned images can’t hold a candle to the true beauty you’ll see in these official hi-res photos. Check them out below:

That “Bane vs. Batman” image is destined to become a classic, no doubt about that. A brief hint of this scene in The Dark Knight Rises teaser trailer was enough to give many fans goosebumps. Hopefully, the fight sequence in the actual film lives up to the anticipation; even the most ardent Bat-fan has to admit that filming close-quarter combat hasn’t been Nolan’s greatest strength throughout this series.
As for the Harvey Dent photograph in the other pic: We’ve known for some time that “The Harvey Dent Act” will be a pivotal plot point in TDKR, helping to tie the threequel to the previous film, The Dark Knight. While details of this ‘Harvey Dent Act’ are sketchy, it’s known that the piece of legislation helped Commissioner Gordon and Batman bring order to Gotham in the 8-year span between TDK and TDKR. How Bane plans to use the law to his advantage (or tear it down) remains to be seen – but still, it’s nice to see that Harvey Dent actor Aaron Eckhart made it into the film in some form or fashion…
The Dark Knight Rises in theaters on July 20, 2012.

No, no, no Bane. That is not the correct way to do Jazz Hands!
Are they fighting in the Batcave?
well spotted, never thought of that, could be.
no batcave in begins or tdk, so i doubt it
Huh? There was a bat cave. Batman gave Rachel Dawes the innoculation in the Bat Cave.
dont forget though, this is 8 years later, plenty of time for a batcave
never thought of that, in batman begins, he drove through a waterfall to get in and out of the batcave and there is a waterfall in that shot, nice job mentioning that…
There is some behind Bats on catwalk or something. Still… Could be the cave.
I’d bet that is one of Bane’s “goons” that they show, in the trailer, repelling down the well into the Batcave. They are probably standing guard to make sure the fight is Mono A Mono.
It is the Batcave, I’m absolutely sure, Bane awaits Bat there to beat the heck out of him.
In Batman Begins, Wayne was rappeling down the well on his property and there was at least one waterfall.
Maybe the big well in the Trailers belongs to the batcave, because he needs a big hole in the batcave for his flying-hover-something.
thats what i thougt because of the waterfall
Thank you!! I was thinking the same thing and was surprised to see no one commenting on that.
If you also look closer BANE is clearly wearing some sort of nylon mask. I think this mask maybe more akin to his comic book mask. We see BANE early in the movie from the prologue but we are not sure of where the other scenes are taking place. Its probable that his look evolves throughout the film and Nolan is just toying with us with these shots.
Just from what we have seen there are many things we can speculate on. Is Bane interested in the doctor because he made his mask? Can he improve said mask? etc.
It looks like one of Banes goons are in the background of that pic so I am guessing Batman is attempting to take the bat cave back from Bane.
I am probably way off but this looks awesome!
fantastic
I could just be over thinking this but
dosent it look like bane has someting like his mask but on his lower back, maybe venom making him bigger?? (just a thought)
also it looks like bane has a different mask on
i noticed that too, but they said that he had an accident as a boy, maybe its a burn mark?
these are awesome!
Check out the scar on the back of Bane’s neck. It appears to run along his spine. What’s that about? Can’t wait to find out!
Do you guys think Harvey Dent played by Aaron Eckhart will be in this film? obiously if he (Aaron Eckhart) was in the film there has to be flash backs from events that happened in TDK Movie right? I dont foresee Aaron Eckhart coming back as two face what do you guys think?
It could Be my friend. I hope.
i love that picture but im wondering where is this picture taking place? The Batcave is a great guess. i guess we will see on July 20th. 2012.
ohh yeah bane is real buff nolan you really are the ‘best director in the world’. pft not only does bane not look like his comic counter part, but he doesn’t even sound like him either. nolan = the biggest egotistical a**hole, if you don’t know what i’m talking about or are to arrogant to acknowledge my comment, just look up what he said about the people who cant understand bane and want a voice change, he blatantly calls us stupid (not directly but if you have an iq above your age you should be able to interpret it properly).
At least THIS Bane is more presentable, than oh Batman and Robin.. or do you like that version better. Dude chill out Bane’s look and voice is based upon something you see in real life.. not an over buff steriod freak.
I’m curious to know, just what DID the comic book Bane sound like? trolls gonna troll. (also, blatantly but not directly? make up your mind.)
im like 85% sure he wasn’t talkin bout the voice in the comic book, but im not completely sure.-_-
and do u act like a grammar nazi much lol.
we’re told that he’s of hispanic decent, and knows alot of middle eastern languages, at the bare minimum he should have an accent, which from what i tried to make out doesn’t exist in the movie, all he has is a muffled voice which gives the impression that he has an accent. he didnt look buff in the trailers and he doesn’t look buff in these either so i highly doubt they’ll do something to show that he isn’t just a challenge for batman on an intellectual level but he is also physically capable of ‘breaking the bat’.
the one major thing that i’m sure anyone who understands martial arts or has a taste for good action will be annoyed by, is that the action and fight scenes will all be grade A garbage. i mean batman is supposed to be an assassin/prestigious martial artist yet he fights like an 80′s disco stud
mr.ego should pull his head out of his *** and hire a proper choreographer to do both the action and fight sequences, something to keep us awake between the long and boring slabs of dialogue.
wow dude, you havent even seen this movie yet, much less a fight scene from it, and you already judge it to be a failure. why dont you weait until you actually watch the film before you say the fight scenes suck, and you could be right, they may, but who knows…
you dont have to watch something to know a directors style, i have seen both previous batman movies and can say with confidence that the action scenes, or to be more specific the fight scenes will be utter garbage, just go back and watch the fight scenes in TDK, complete and utter failures in choreography or style, which doesn’t make any sense b/c batman is supposed to be well beyond a black belt in karate where as in the nolan movies he fights like a junkie of the street.
I have to agree. One of the things I found amusing about the first 2 films were that Batman, who is suppose to be essentially a ninja, doesn’t seem to use much martial arts in his fights. It seems to me that this could easily be remedied.
The idea that individuals with years martial arts experience go around high-kicking people and triple backflipping in a street fight, purely because they can, is both incorrect and moronic.
If an individual with over ten years experience in martial arts (such as myself) were to get involved in a street fight, the first thing we would do, garunteed, is probably groin-kick them. The moves taught in martial art classes are perfectly suitable in the dojo, whilst sparring; but in the real world? It still boils down to a brawl. Bale’s Batman shows this, and for that, I appreciate it more.
i never said they should be fancy moves, just look at the way he fights in TDK, its so robotic and stiff that it makes it hard for people to believe that he is a martial artist. i decent fighter can incorporate the techniques he learn into street defence, i have seen many jiu-jitsu fighters use their armbars etc to take down people with weapons etc.
why would you risk taking down one person to the ground just to disarm them, esp when there are more than one attackers.
I disagree, I did not think he fought robotic. It looked very well executed. Simple and effective.
He uses Keysi Fighting Method – a culmination of differentfighting styles while using your enviornment to your advantage. Minding your surroundings was a huge theme in BB. Batman fights like he should. Jumping in and out of the shadows, meticuously elimating each combatant much like he did in BB when taking down the Scarecrow at Arkham.
Nolan edits the fight scene stylistically in a way that can be hard to follow but i think its done that way because he wants to give the feelings its happening fast. Batman knocks through opponents with devestating blows & smashes heads against metal railings. Its better than the comics/animations where he is always getting knocked out from behind and then put into an “inescapable” trap with his utility belt taken hahaha
PS the Inception fighting scenes were pretty good & easy to follow So I think its a stylistic choice rather than incapability.
Rob, perfect counters. A+
a little harsh but true nonetheless
Relax dude, it’s a realistic take on Batman. Besides, don’t judge the movie when we barely know anything yet. Nolan has done a great job with the Batman franchise and I’m sure Bane’s size will be addressed at some point in the film. I mean look at how he did Two-Face in TDK, and that was incredible. So I’m sure Bane becoming huge at some point in the film is nothing compared to that. Either way, I can’t wait. He know’s what he’s doing and is a great director.
Besides, How can Bane break the bat if he is that small? I’m pretty sure that scar in Bane’s spine must refer to his venom thing. At least his mental capability was portrayed right here instead of the typical dumb muscle.
As far as the venom thing? They said that he breaths in gas that lets him not feel anything because of a childhood accident, that scar that everyone is pointing out, is a scar from said accident, NOT “venom”.
Now the size issue, Nolan said before that they are gonna make him look taller with trick photography, him standing on something, or have the other characters stand in something like a trench (for a lack of a better word)…
And I know that some people (trolls) are gonna complain about that, so, I devised a comeback for all you haters… “Tom Cruise”, that guy is a midget and they make him look normal height. I’m sure that Nolan can do that with Bane.
But how come he looks small in the two trailers and in the prologue he isn’t that massive? I’m guessing the venom will play a part in some other form because Bane does not look huge in those trailers.
he is not only the same height as bale, but is almost the same width as well (if not smaller) i honestly don’t see how they can make this work, especially during the fight scenes where they’re next to each other throwing punches and kicks. and just like others have said time and time again, we have seen him as a normal sized bald dude throughout all the trailers, previews and photos, so i doubt it’s gonna change. if they do pump him up during venom intakes, then it will go against nolans ‘dark and realistic’ approach to the universe, so it’s lose lose either way.
Plus, I fail to see how he will beat Batman in hand-to-hand combat with BARE HANDS. Look at the second trailer and see how he uses BARE HANDS to punch Batman’s ARMOR SUIT. I hope Nolan will pull an “out of character” style of directing and give the fans a BULKED UP Bane, something with a time limit.
The trailers seem to things will happen in this order: 1) Bane confronts Bruce Wayne and reveals he knows his secret identity, 2)Bane breaks Bruce Wayne’s back and takes over his company (as evidenced by the fact he is able to operate several Tumblers), 3)Bruce is imprisioned (then visited by Bane) in Peña Dura prison, in Santa Prisca 4)Bruce’s back heals and he returns to Bane-town (aka Gotham City) for the final showdown.
The only way Bane could break his back is if he did it to ‘Bruce Wayne’, not Batman.
This movie isn’t all about Bane vs Batman, remember there’s Selina Kyle, Miranda Tate, Gordon – Levitt’s Character, Young and Old Ra’s al Ghul (According to wiki, Neeson will make a cameo). Bane may be the main villain as Joker was in the Dark Knight, But the story didn’t totally revolve around Joker vs Batman.
Plus, in the trailer, Bane Takes Batman’s mask, so it’s safe to assume Bane WILL break the Bat.
I honestly don’t think they’ve released any pictures of Bane while he is induced with the venom. Saving the best for last!
We hope for the best
Sure its hard to decipher the voice…but its not too big a deal, u can hear it better than Bale’s. Haters just need one thing to nitpick and troll on. Heres hoping the action meets the standards the other 2 batman films didnt(fight scenes).
Drip, drip, drip…..
vanguard,
Yup.
Vic
Looks awesomeee
Who is that person standing on the upper edge of the pic in Batman vs Bane? Is it a henchman?
Nolan
Bob the Goon!
The scene in the first image is the same scene where alfred tells him to rise in the trailer. The part where hes all bearded out.
SETTING*
I worked on this movie. Only the batcave scenes, but I was there when ther were filming this. It ends something like this, severe injury-stolen tumbler. Connect the dots.
Ah, kind of like how batman took out bane in arkham asylum… With a Batmobile to the chest lol.
I wonder how he got his hands on th spects to build his own tumbler? Doesn’t Wayne enterprises own that Tech?
That’s where Miranda Tate (Cotillard) plays her part. And since Liam Neeson is making a cameo, (According to Wiki), I;m guessing the league of shadows are alligned with Bane.
Something tells me that Bane is a Martial Artist in this film, I mean he doesn’t look Massive enough to Break Batman, Maybe he throws a lot of obstacles to Batman and he does some League of shadows move (He and Ra’s have the same objective, to wipe out Gotham). Still hoping the Venom will show up or Nolan will make Bane Bulk Up but with a time limit.
OBVIOUSLY, Batman breaks his back in a slip and fall in a puddle of water. Just look at that place, it is clearly NOT up to code.
Bane didn’t get the specs, he stole barmans tumbler.
Bane is catching the water with his invisible tub he is holding. I think it might be broken.
Nice Batcave! Bane isn’t even bigger than me, but he looks intimidating. It’s Nice to see the authority lies within his approach instead of his physique, in comparisson to another version of him from the 90s…
I still say the name is bad.
How big is the refrigerator we’re moving? About this wide….?
Can’t ppl just enjoy a new take on beloved characters? Why does it have to overly scrutinized??
also… you know that second pic screams (the inevitable caption) “Come at me Bro!”
Hey zingbird! Come here , I wanna know the script of TDKR
The first image is good, showing Harvey Dent is in the movie in some form.
The second one image like Kofi Outlaw said: It’s a classic.
That photo shows Bane is like saying “Bring it on, Batb****” and Batman is like “Okay, let’s do this, Donkey Kong.
I hope the fight scene bewteen Batman and Bane will be the best part of the movie.
“Now the first part of the Irish dance is this position..”
Has nobody noticed the guy stood on the balcony at the top of the photo? Guessing that’s one of banes ‘goons’
I did, I posted it as a question of who might it be? Guess it’s Bob the Goon.
If you want to viiiiiew paradiiiiise, simply look aroooooound and view it!”
I don’t think that Bane needs to be too tall and big in the film. Honestly, if you look at him you have to admit that he looks like somebody who goes to the gym, regularly. And while he may not look as big as people like the Rock he definitely has size. Furthermore, coming from someone who actually goes to the gym, the biggest guy is not always the strongest guy.
I personally think Bane’s size is fine. He’s muscular, has great combat skills, and has a gas mask that helps him alleviate any pain he is in- meaning that he won’t feel the pain of Batman’s hits as easily. So I think it is very possible, and realistic, for this Bane to break Batman’s back.
People here (and on other websites) are just hating. If we had a big jacked up/juiced up guy then people would complain that he looks too ridiculous, i think Nolan has so far portrayed Bane very well and I love that fact that he will not only be a brute force but also an intellectual/tactically thought out force.
I wouldn’t try and compare Bane in this film to the comics but rather just try and take this as a reboot/fix of the character
Is it hating because we have concerns? I have concerns about The Avengers, but it is still my most anticipated film of next year. And just because we have concerns doesn’t mean we won’t see the movie. I can assure you that I will be seeing TDKR; I just won’t be in the midnight showing line.
How come nobody list there concerns about the avengers? Its batman this batman that lol I have equel as many concerns about the avengers
Thank you for stating that.
Pretty sure I remember in the comics Bane is looking for his father who was the reason Bane was in prison which led to him being experimented on with the venom. Could Nolan have Bane thinking Harvey Dent was his father? Just came to mind, could be over thinking all of this though…
