‘Dark Knight Rises’ & ‘Avengers’ Toys: Quinjet & Catwoman’s Spiked Heels [Updated]

[Update: Check out Hi-res Photos of the Toys!]

The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises are not just duking it out for the title of ‘superhero movie king of summer 2012′ – they are also battling for the title of ‘most merchandised superhero movie of 2012.’ There’s no better evidence of this fact than the number of toys, collectibles and sculpted statuettes from both films that are starting to be revealed on the Interwebs.

A new statuette of Iron Man’s Mark VII armor from The Avengers already has fans buzzing, and we’re adding fuel to the fire with some new Avengers accersories that include the iconic team Quinjet, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, which serves as the mobile command center for Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and his team of secret agents.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to Toyland with some collectible figurines and busts that depict the likenesses of the film’s villain, Bane (Tom Hardy), our hero Batman (Christian Bale), and of course Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), whose loyalties no one can ever be sure of.

Take a look at the new Avengers and Dark Knight Rises toys below:

The Avengers Catalog is pretty thing to make out, but if you have any interest in seeing the full thing (it has Thor and Hulk figures, as well as more vehicles and accessories), then head over to the Red Shadows forum.

As for the TDKR figures: we’ve pretty much seen what we need to see of Batman and Bane at this point, thanks to the official images from the movie. But these collectibles do offer a nice opportunity get acquainted with Selena Kyle, aka, Catwoman.

Chris Nolan is working at something of a deficit as far as casting female roles in his movies. Fans weren’t too pleased with either Katie Holmes or Maggie Gyllenhall as Rachel Dawes in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, respectively; they were even less pleased with Ellen Page in Inception. Ever since it was announced that Hathaway was playing Catwoman, there has been yet another surge of complaint that Nolan has (once again) cast the wrong lady.

We’ll have to wait and see how Hathaway performs in her role, but this is a different interpretation of Catwoman for sure. Some people aren’t pleased with the hi-tech googles that Catwoman is sporting – though the Catwoman bust (mind out of the gutter) above does reinforce the fact that we will see a more traditional mask on her face. Personally, I’m digging the spiked heels – good for scaling buildings and combatting foes – though it is hard to imagine that any girl in Catwoman’s particular line of work would be wearing high heels (as many viewers are likely to echo).

The Avengers arrives in theaters on May 4, 2012

The Dark Knight Rises in theaters on July 20, 2012

What’s with Catwoman’s ass? Man, not only is the casting terrible but the toy as well. This character can’t catch a break.

Don’t knock her casting til you see the movie. How many people thought Heath Ledger was going to be a horrible Joker? Look how that turned out

If you’re sick of the argument, then stop commenting on her based on two lines from a trailer. Just wait for the movie to come out THEN decide.

Know how in the Captain America film, Howard Stark used the reverberator tech (or however you spell it) to lift his car? I really hope for this but I think the helicarrier will use something simialr to lift the massive base, considering how close Howard was to S.H.I.E.L.D.

I think many people took way less issue with Ellen Page in Inception since almost every character was badly fleshed out. Some critics of Nolan just seem to focus on Page because she’s the easiest target and the main female. Nolan did get a bit better writing her so maybe he’ll step it up this time. She at least was integral enough to the plot and had some ideas of her own. I rather her than Rachel (both incarnations), who were just awful and cliched in every way. I cringe every time I watch their scenes.

Catwoman does looks odd to me in the figurine. It must be her Nicki Minaj ass. Haha. The stripper heels are simply ridiculous.

Not a fan of any of these toys…
    They don’t look appealing IMO.
-Batman looks stupid (my Batman Arkham City statue looks WAY more awesome).
-I don’t like the way Bane will look in the the movie, thus, I don’t like his statue either.
-I would have bough the Catwoman statue (even though I’n not a fan of Hathaway), if she was doing ANY OTHER pose, but since someone thought it’d be a good idea for her to squat in the statue, I’m not interested.
-The Quinjet looks okay. I would have preferred a movie accurate version though (like in the trailer) — this toy looks cheaply made and more aimed at small kids (not something I’d ever want to have on my display shelf)
-The SHIELD hellicarrier is not to scale. I’m sorry, but it’s a pet-peeve: The vehicle should be to scale in relation to the characters. If they can’t make it to scale, then they shouldn’t release it with a figurine.

    Sigh…
These are what toys should be like (minus the insane price-tags):
    http://www.sideshowtoy.com/listing.php?manu=Hot%20Toys&type=Sixth%20Scale%20Figure&layout=list&currPage=0&perPage=24
I found this while browsing the web — just pick a character, look at the product description and all the included accessories (I was amazed that things like this existed). THIS is the type of toy aimed at collectors and fans (not little kids).

I’m amazed you didn’t know collectables like that existed. You been living under a rock? Forget figures check out statues. My fave figures are ‘hot toys’ figures. That’s where it’s at.

No, I’ve just been living in a world where toys are for kids ;)
        That’s changed now.
I love Hot Toys’ Marvel Movie range. Each hero and villain looks amazing (especially the IM figurines, and the Cap and Red Skull figurine)
The thing about Hot Toys’ figurines is that they are so well detailed (and come with such a huge amount of customization), that they’re BETTER than statues… because you can’t change a statue’s posture or position – but with these figurines, you get the detail of a statue, and the customization and maneuverability that exceeds that of a normal toy.
Like I said, if I were able to have em’ shipped to SA and if the price-tag wasn’t so ridiculous, I’d have ordered the Iron Man Mark VI figurine long ago…

You just know there’s going to be a scene where Catwoman stabs some MoFo with those heels. She’s gonna take out Talia. And who cares if heels aren’t “realistic” for combat…its still a film about a guy gliding around dressed as a bat.

It’s going to kick ass. Catwoman is going to be the most interesting since it seems she’ll be on both sides…unless she’s upstaged by Talia. Bane is good, but just a straightforward bad guy it seems, opposite of Joker.

    How do you all
Manage to judge a movie before it comes out? Has Nolan dissapointed us yet? Cat woman’s heels come off but they have separations in them So she can stab and climb. Anne Hathaway further explained that nothing is there just for the sake of it. Everything in the suit has some sort of use. Stop b****ing.

I’m clearing a space on my dork shelf for that Bane statue. I hope to one day have the ability to stand with my arms outspread and intimidate. On a related note, my fiance recently pointed something out that I do not think anyone has pointed out yet: How can Bane eat? She ruined my whole life when she said that. Ruined.

I really like the batsuit I noticed very suttle changes mainly making the chest area a bit lighter almost grey and they made legs of the suit a little bit less busy looking
