Season one of Marvel's Daredevil served as an introduction to a different aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Marvel Studios' films may have a lighter tone than the recently brooding superhero genre, Daredevil showed us that Marvel can take on a darker style while also remaining within the same universe as the Avengers.

The first season of Daredevil was very much a launching platform for the future of the Marvel/Netflix series, and later this year we will return to Hell's Kitchen with their next series, Jessica Jones. After that, Daredevil will return with a second season, which will expand upon the mythos and character drama established in season one while also debuting new heroes and villains for Matt Murdock to face off against.

Filming was rumored to be starting next month for season two, but it appears it is already underway. Some new images from photographer Shelly Kay reveal that production has begun in New York with the cast shooting on location. Featured in the images are Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), back in action and surveying the streets of Hell's Kitchen.

Also expected to return for the show's sophomore season are Rosario Dawson and Deborah Ann Woll, who play Claire Temple and Karen Page, respectively. Vincent D'Onfrio's sinister villain Wilson Fisk is still unconfirmed for the second season, but the end of the season one finale did leave the door open to future appearances.

With filming already underway for season 2 of Daredevil, it's possible that our first look at Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher could be coming sooner rather than later. After all, Bernthal has been busy studying the source material lately. And with the second season already described as "Daredevil vs. Punisher," Castle will likely have a big presence in the upcoming episodes.

Not only might we get our first look at the new Punisher soon, but maybe we'll get some official casting news for Elektra and Bullseye. While it has not been made official whether or not those key characters will be making their debuts alongside Castle in season 2, with Daredevil increasing the scope and scale it's very possible that not only will they be involved in the series, but have integral parts as well.

Daredevil is currently available on Netflix. Jessica Jones premieres this fall, followed by Luke Cage and Daredevil season 2 in 2016.
