Back in 2008, Frank Miller and Jason Statham demonstrated their interest in a Daredevil reboot and Tom Rothman, head of Fox, made it clear that the reboot was definitely something the high-ups were interesting in getting to work on.
To no surprise, Mike Fleming just picked up the exclusive that Daredevil is now definitely being rebooted. Regency will be handling the remake for distributor Fox and David Scarpa will be writing the script.
From Fleming’s report:
Regency is mounting the remake with former News Corp No. 2 Peter Chernin producing. Writing the redo is screenwriter David Scarpa, who scripted The Day The Earth Stood Still for Fox.
I’m not excited for this movie and I have low expectations for it. Not only was the first Daredevil not a well-received movie (the director’s cut was better if you’re a fan), but the reboot is only happening so Fox can maintain the film rights to the character. See, by contractural stipulation, if Fox doesn’t put the movie into production, the license to the Daredevil property would revert back to Marvel (and Disney would love that).
Another reason I’m not excited is the fact that David Scarpa is penning the script and he wrote The Day the Earth Stood Still, a movie that in my mind, is a contender for worst film of 2008.
Some other rumors that popped up over the last year were from Xavier Gens (Hitman) saying he would definitely like to direct the next Daredevil and of course, there was the report of Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica, 24) going to a comic shop to pick up any books featuring the character Typhoid Mary.
Now that we know the remake is coming, the next stage is the out-of-control rumors and speculation, so why not start now; Who should play the title character of Matt Murdock, replacing Ben Affleck?

For a quintessential “Daredevil” movie, a Robert Rodriguez / Frank Miller collaboration would be the ideal choice.
They need to put some authenticity back into some of these comic book adaptations by using the very people who know the characters well.
Dude, you guys have Robin Hood and Sherlock Holmes, and Liam Neeson isn't Abraham Lincoln any more, let us have Daredevil.
Oh, yes it can. Elektra was worse than Daredevil. As long as Fox does it, it will suck. I don't know why people still keep having faith in Fox despite their massive multiple failures and promises that they never keep.
Statham would be better than wimpy Affleck…….Anway DD would work better as a Spiderman reboot spin-off……(not sure why Spiderman needs a…..nevermind)
As long as Mark Steven Johnson doesn't direct it I'm all for it.
“Ghost Rider” sucked.
“Daredevil” sucked.
The fact that some of you think DISNEY would do a better job with Daredevil sickens me.
Daredevil could've been a much better film if Mark Steven Johnson stuck closer to the original source material and incorporated the basic film noir elements that Frank Miller, Ann Nocenti and Kevin Smith were successful with during their tenure on the comic book series.
It was a glossed up film as opposed to the gritty and dirty Hell's Kitchen we all know from the books. The movie also very much under played the poor social economic status of the community at large.
Anyone who's read Miller's, Nocenti's and Smith's run on Daredevil knows what I mean.
Ann Nocenti's prolific run from issue #238-291 was also largely ignored by the film makers. She introduced Typhoid Mary in issue #254.
I didn't mind Ben Affleck in the role. I thought he did a good enough job despite the lackluster script and poor direction, AND the costume was crap. They could have done a better job with that.
I wouldn't say no to Disney's money. I doubt very much they would interfere with MARVEL's treatment of the character having seen the way Fox mishandled things.
