The synopsis for Daniel Day Lewis's upcoming Phantom Thread has been released, with the promise of a trailer for the film on the way soon. The film, which will be released at the end of the year, is the actor's last role before he retires from acting, and tells the story of a dressmaker to the elite of 1950s London. The film sees Day Lewis working once more with his  There Will Be Blood collaborator, writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson.

Although the film is set for release in only two months, not much has been released about the project at this point, beyond the basic premise and some of the cast list. Now, however, it seems that a trailer is on the way very soon, and the full synopsis for the film has been released.

The synopsis was posted on Twitter yesterday, while the trailer has now been completed and rated by Consumer Protection BC, reports Trailer Track. Now that it has been rated, the trailer can be expected to drop within the next couple of weeks. The full synopsis reveals that Phantom Thread will be a love story, about Woodcock's muse and lover:

Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood

Set in the glamour of 1950s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life, providing the confirmed bachelor with inspiration and companionship, until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by love. With his latest film, Paul Thomas Anderson paints an illuminating portrait both of an artist on a creative journey, and the women who keep his world running. Phantom Thread is Paul Thomas Anderson’s eighth movie, and his second collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis.

The synopsis provides much more detail on this period piece, as previously the romance at the center of the film hadn't been included in the plot details that were released. Up until now, the focus has been on Woodcock's life in general, and the high society circles that he moves in. This is sure to remain a big part of the film, of course, as will the fashions themselves, but the romantic angle is sure to bring a clearer central narrative to the movie.

The trailer, of course, will provide even more detail when it is released, but although it can be expected very soon, there is no specific release date attached.
