Damages 5 TV ‘Damages’ 5th & Final Season Premieres This July

The final battle between Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons begins this summer, as Damages season 5 premieres July 11 at 9pm on DirecTV’s Audience Network (channel 239).

Damages stars Golden Globe winning actress Glenn Close as the ruthless and cutthroat lawyer Patty Hewes. Throughout the series Hewes has used unethical and even down right illegal tactics to win cases. The upcoming fifth season will consist of 10 episodes and will see the coldblooded Hewes come into major conflict with he once naïve legal protégé Ellen Parsons played by actress Rose Byrne.

But why pit Patty Hewes and Ellen Parsons against each other – and what will happen when these two legal minds face off against each other? “I think the writers want it to be Rosie [Rose Byrne] and I against each other,” says Close in a DirecTV interview.  Byrne goes on to add:

“The way the last season ends, it sort of pitches Patty and Ellen against each other. So I think the idea is they will end up on either side of the case, is my prediction. I’m really excited because we’ve never done that before, and who’s gonna win?”

Joining Close and Byrne this season will be Stop-Loss actor Ryan Phillippe as a series regular. Phillippe will play Channing McClaren, an internet genius and government whistleblower. Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg) will have a recurring role as an investment bank employee named Naomi Walling who is concerned by what her company is doing with insider information. Walling will be the catalyst for the case that will finally pit Patty and Ellen against one another.

Janet McTeer, John Hannah, Chris Messina, Judd Hirsch, M. Emmett Walsh, Victor Garber, William Sadler, Gbenga Akinnagbe, Gillian Alexy and Zachary Booth are all slated to guest star this season as well.

Damages has turned out to be a great success for DirecTV, after the satellite broadcaster picked up the legal thriller from its original home on FX in 2010. Praised for its red-herring style plot twists and nonlinear narrative, Damages has earned significantly positive reviews from critics as well as four Emmy awards and 19 nominations in its first four seasons. The final season is expected to deliver a shocking conclusion to the Patty-Ellen saga. Despite foreshadowing since the first season on how things might turn out, the show is known for its ability to masterfully upend a situation into something completely unexpected.

  1. This is one of the most overlooked shows on television in my opinion. Case and point is that this post has been up for over a day now and nobody has even bothered to comment.
But seriously the execution of the show is flawless. Each season so far has been great.

    • Tasouli,
I do not have direct tv and I think if this show was on Comcast or another Verizon Fios it would’ve reached a wider audience. I was a huge fan before it left Comcast.
This is not just another legal show. This show has the highest level of writing and acting on television. I just watched season 3 with Ted Danson on Netflix. Netflix has finally earned it’s worth in my opinion. The actors on this show, the writing, it’s the complete best!! I am just sorry to see it’s the final season.

      • I absolutely agree with you. I’m an old head and not that savvy with tech stuff, but I am enthroned with this series. I’m in the legal profession and I find it riveting and somewhat realistic.

      • I agree 100%. It is on Netflix if you have that. You will have to wait til the season is over to watch the 5th and final season though.

      • I completely agree! This has to be the best show i have ever watched. I wish it wasnt over.

  2. I will take your word for it, but as it’s yet another show about lawyers, and I detest pretty much all shows about lawyers, I even hate films about them (with rare exceptions like A Civil Action and one of Paul Newman’s absolute cracking best roles, The Verdict).

So I’ve never seen a single episode, don’t know what the shows about, nuthin.

So if you say it’s good, then I’m glad you like it.

    • Then Pedro why do you wind up in the comment section of Damages on screen rant. Go watch an episode and then come back to give your opinion, YOu’ll be hooked! ;-D

  3. It’s my favourite show and I love it. Long live Patty Hewes!

  4. bittorrent much?

    • Pedro – What the heck does “bittorant” even mean? And yeah, why are you making statements about lawyer shows in general when this conversation is about a specific lawyer show? And, to make it even more senseless, you’ve never seen the show. Duuuude…!

  5. When will season 5 air on Netflix

  6. Do you know on what date Damages Season 5 will air on Netflix

    • I was wondering the same thing! I have watched all the seasons of Damages on Netflix and I want to know when they are going to have season 5 on Netflix??!!

  7. I totally agree Tasouli!!!! This is by far the best show on tv or that was on tv I guess, it is so sad to see it go, cannot wait to see season 5 on netflix tho!!!! It really is too bad it left comcast, it went unrecognized and was very much under appreciated!!!! Does anyone know when it is expected to be on netflix yet???

  8. I love this show. It is totally addictive and the best series I have seen. All my family and friends are watching it. Glad I found out about it. Glenn Close is amazing. I don’t want it to end. Looking forward to Season 5 on Netflix.

  9. Still no answer in when Season 5 will hit Netflix???

  10. I’ve become totally obsessed with Damages! I’m watching it on Netflix and I really want to know when the last season will be available. I see that the DVD will be available next month and I’m really hoping they don’t make us wait MONTHS later for it to be available for streaming on Netflix especially since it was only available for directv customers! I don’t understand why it took so long for the DVD to come out. A lot of final season dvd’s are made available within a few weeks not over 6 months and especially since it got taken away from it’s regular FX viewers. Sorry for the rant! I’m just REALLY loving this show and the fans deserve better! Please update with a Netflix release date if you know…..thanks

    • I so agree with you. It’s like they are punishing the most loyal viewers by making us wait. Don’t understand this method of distribution to the fans. Would just like to know when the final season will be available on Netflix.

  11. I had started watching Season 1 and always wanted to go back to it. It is my favorite show at the present time. I am watching it on Amazon.com Prime for free. I do have DirecTV and will watch Season 5 on DirecTV’s Audience Channel 239. I, too, am wishing it wasn’t the final season. I do not like lawyer television or movies, but I believe this one is successful because a very very high percentage (all most all) the drama is outisde the courtroom. The plot moves fast and new characters are introduced constantly. You will never be bored watching Damages. Rose Bryn and Glenn Close are amazing in these actors and many more have joined them…… Thanks DirecTV. Please Please keep this show going. Josie

    • Just seen the final episode and am feeling bereft. This was a great series and how I wish they would create a sequel with Miss Close and Miss Byrne again.

  12. I have watched this show from the start and absolutly love love love it!!!!!!!!! But….. unfortunatly have been unable to see season 5, due to the shows move to direct tv! Anyone have word of a netflix date for season 5???
