Dakota Fanning To Star In New Moon?

dakota fanning new moon image Dakota Fanning To Star In New Moon? After the rumor that Vanessa Hudgens was going to star in the upcoming Twilight sequel New Moon (which was soon thereafter labeled false), we have another rumor about the film. Still about casting and still about a female, only this time it’s… Dakota Fanning.

According to E!, the 14 year old is in talks to play Jane, a character described “as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises,” in a casting notice that was released earlier this month.

“Jane is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in author Stephenie Meyer’s’ best-selling series,” says Yahoo Movies.

What’s perhaps most interesting about this is that it’s rumored that Fanning didn’t even have to audition for the role – she was just offered it:

“There were no auditions,” a source reveals. “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth.”

What’s also quite interesting is that there was a petition set up by a Twilight fan proposing to Summit Entertainment that they cast Fanning in the role as she would be “perfect.” Is that just a coincidence?

Unlike the Vanessa Hudgens rumor, I think this is a great idea. Although as I said in the previous rumor post, I haven’t read any of the books and therefore am not familiar with the characters, I still think mainly from the description of the character (given above), that she suits it quite perfectly.

And Fanning is a great little actress, she’s shown in that in the past already with the likes of Man on Fire, I Am Sam and War of the Worlds that she has the talent to carry her far. She’s only 14 right now (15 next month) but give her another five to ten years and I think she could possibly be A-list.

I’m glad the Hudgens rumor was outed as bogus (thinking about that again – it really would have been a bad idea) and even if this one ends up being untrue as well it still shows the studio is turning the franchise in a better direction than they were heading.

So, Twilight fans: Do you think Fanning would be a good fit for the role of Jane?

New Moon is set to be released on November 20th this year.

  1. JANE IS NOT BLONDE!

    http://www.twilightlexiconblog.com/?p=199

    idiots.

Shes bad. I don’t like her.

  2. I absolutely love Dakota fanning but she is definitely not a good choice for jane….she is honestly too old….and when u cut and dye her hair she wont have the innocent Dakota blonde hair appeal (she wont be innocent and “beautiful” looking….maybe to put her as renata or heidi…jane and alec should be under 10 years old

  3. I’m sort of up in the air with Dakota Fanning playing Jane. She is a very good actress and I’m pretty sure she could pull off the whole innocent yet a little evil vampire that Jane is. But then again I can’t image her as being Jane. They would have to make her very beautiful and angelic. And I’m pretty sure Jane isn’t a blonde.

Oh well… We’ll see was happens.

  4. @Twilighterr

There’s this really cool stuff called “hair coloring” out there. I think you can even find it in supermarkets!

    :-P

    Vic

  5. Jane is NOT blonde BUT they have dyed the hair of nearly the whole cast so why not dekota?
well i know what people mean about the age and
firstly i always imagined jane as being like 15 but that was just me
and secondly do you not know? Robis like 22 and he is playing a 17 year old, beside she is an amazing actress and i really hope she gets the part. if not i also liked emily browning for the role

  6. I honestly think summit has been doing a fabulous job, well obviously we don’t know a lot of info about new moon, but twilight proved to be awesome, so whatever they choose, will be ok with me, as long as its not Vanessa Hudgens, no offense, she is to girly to play a vamp!!

  7. she readbook so i have faith in her.
thank you jesus for excludind vanessa hudgens

  8. I don’t know what people are talking about.
I’m prety sure Jane’s blonde. That’s how I always imagined her, and the quoted description above confirms it. She’s quite similar to how I imagined Jane. And yes, she’s a couple of years older than she should be, but I think she can pull it off. PLUS, she’s an amazing actress.

  9. they wern’t thinking of vanessa for a vamp
they were thinking of her for leah clear water-the later werewolf (shape shifter)

  10. and jane is described :

‘The new comer was as tiny as alice, with lank, pale brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak_which was darker, almost black-was slim and androgynous. But the face was too pretty for a boy. The ide-eyed, full-lipped face would make a Botticelli angel look like a gargoyle. Even allowing for the dull crimson irises.’
^that is the eact ectract from my new moon book

  11. wow i splet aot of the the last one wrong here it is again without spelling mistakes:
    and jane is described :

‘The new comer was as tiny as alice, with lank, pale brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak-which was darker, almost black-was slim and androgynous. But the face was too pretty for a boy. The wide-eyed, full-lipped face would make a Botticelli angel look like a gargoyle. Even allowing for the dull crimson irises.’
^that is the exact ectract from my new moon book

  12. Haha, thanks Hale, you confirmed my doubts.
Guess I was wrong, sorry about that.
For some reason, I always imagined her as a blonde.
I kept looking online for a description of her directly from the book and couldn’t find it, since I borrowed NM from a friend when I read it, so I don’t have it myself.

  13. Dokota really doesn’t seem like the person to play Jane. I mean, yes, she could pull it off, but I always thought of Jane as more of an intimidating figure. The caption should not only signify what Jane is, but hers actions also. She can toture you in your own mind, does dokota really look like the kind of person who could do that? Well, I don’t think so, but if that’s what they choose I’m sure it would be fine anyway.

I personally think that once you become a disney star you are always a disney star. So honestly, if Vannessa Hudgens was casted as a character (Which thank god you confirmed was not true)it would bring in the preppy high school musical fans. Twilight should NOT be compared to highschool musical. The repeated polls of who’s hotter Robert or Zac is such a dead give away. Robert, duh. But with that, we know Twilight is a tottally different story in which should not be soiled by such an actress.

  14. NO!!!!!!!!!!! She should not be Jane!… Jane has brown hair! and i could never see Her playing someone like Jane!

  15. Exactly! I agree with Haley! But can someone please tell me where stephanie meyer comes in? She has a a say, correct? Is this her choice?

  16. I think she would be a great Jane. Honestly. Dakota is quite the actress for someone her age, I think she could pull it off. It would be very interesting to see her chemistry with Rob.

  17. Caleb-
Stephenie really has no say in anything. Catherine Hardwicke was just being courteous and letting them help with her baby. I personally think she got in the way =p
though i think it may have changed a bit for New Moon, I think she got to choose the director.

  18. That sux. Stephanie Meyer of all people should HELP the director choose these characters. She WAS the one who created them. *hint hint* I think that Hale girl would make a much better jane. Dokota, really, a GREAT actress, isn’t the way I really saw jane.

  19. Everymovie I have seen Dakota Fanning in I have always loved the movies (Dreamer, War of the Worlds and im looking forward to Push) so I dont have an issue with her playing the part of Jane. I think she could really hit the part spot on. Like Miller said, I think we are looking at a future A-list actor.

    @Vic

    lmao!

  20. since when is jane blonde?
and i think that dakota would look the part but can’t act it. cuz she doesn’t kno how to act like jane would. and its so dumb that they just offered her the part. its unfair to other actress that might be the right person for the part and can play it but might not look it. and dakota will only agree to it cuz twilight was so popular.
she is not the part. she cant be jane.

  21. Emily, how do you know she doesn’t know how to act like Jane would? She would research it just like the rest of the cast did for their roles…

honestly people, give her a chance =p
And Smeyer sold all her rights to Summit, so really she doesn’t HAVE to do anything. She stuck her nose into a lot of things that were “wrong” with Twilight..

  22. Jane is a “light brown” haired i think 13 year old. Most 13 year olds dont look like their a teen untill maybe 15. And mabey her hair color is like a dirty blonde. Dirty blond can be light brown looking. I have hair like hers, and pale skin…i wonder…im jk but i have a point.

  23. I DO NOT like the idea of Dakota Fanning as Jane…definitely not at all how I pictured her, and like many have already pointed out, I don’t think she could pull this role off.

  24. Of course, the twihards wont like it. let me remind you, everyone hated rob, kristen, nikki, EVERYONE that was cast in the beginning. now they wouldn’t have it any other way.

  25. i love dakota but she just dosent fit jane. jane has brown hair not blond!

  26. im a better jane no offense dakota!!!!!!!

  27. @g

Um, actors dye their hair for roles all the time.

    Vic

  28. @vic

thank you. because it hasn’t been said enough times.

  29. @ Mundane and Incomplete

I think it has been said a total of 5 times :D

Everyone will get over this I bet as soon as the movie comes out. I wont be suprised.
