smallville season 9 CW Renews Smallville For A Tenth Season

A couple weeks ago, The CW announced a list of shows that will be returning next fall, but, for some reason, Smallville wasn’t included in the list.  This exclusion had loyal long-time fans worried that things may not be going so well with their favorite series. Well, fans need no longer worry because just a bit ago The CW just gave word that Smallville has been renewed for a tenth season.

That’s right, I said tenth. Not tenth and final. When asked about whether or not the tenth will be its last, I was told that they “can confirm it is picked up for a tenth season, but that’s it right now.” I supposed Warner Bros. and The CW are keeping things open in regards to what the future holds for everyone’s favorite – non-flying – superhero.

“SMALLVILLE”

TO RETURN FOR A TENTH SEASON

ON THE CW

March 4, 2010 (Burbank, California) ─ The CW Network has announced that its hit series “Smallville” will return in the fall of 2010 for a momentous tenth season.

“Smallville,” a modern retelling of the Superman legend, stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent.  The series moved to Friday nights this season, where it currently ranks as network television’s #1 show in its time period among men 18-34 and men 18-49.   Additionally, “Smallville” has dramatically improved The CW’s ratings performance in its Friday 8:00-9:00p.m.time period by 67% among adults 18-34 (1.5/6), 200% in men 18-34 (1.8/7), 75% in adults 18-49 (1.4/5), 183% in men 18-49 (1.7/6) and 74% in total viewers (3.12million).

“Smallville” joins the five previously announced series – “The Vampire Diaries,” “Gossip Girl,” “90210,” “Supernatural” and “America’s Next Top Model” – which will all return for another season on The CW.

“Smallville” was developed for television by Alfred Gough & Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon,” “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor”), based on the DC Comics characters.  Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson serve as executive producers, along with James Marshall, Mike Tollin, Brian Robbins and Joe Davola.  The series is produced by Tollin/Robbins Productions, Millar/Gough Ink and Warner Bros. Television.  SUPERMAN was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.

While I’m in a Smallville mood, let’s check out what we can expect when the show returns on April 2.

Looks like Metallo is back and Zod is done play nice. If Zod starts gathering his arm and Metallo is out for vengeance, what is Clark going to do? Fly? C’mon… you should know by now that’s not going to happen.

What do you think about Smallville getting a tenth season? Are you excited? Do you think the shows been on long enough? Anyone taking bets on whether or not we’ll see some actual flying? Is Lex coming back?

Don’t miss the return of Smallville Friday, April 2 @8PM on The CW

  1. I would be perfectly fine with no more Lana EVER.

    You missed…
-Them actually saying “SUPERMAN” (not this “super guy”, “super star” junk)

A spin off would be dumb. Did you watch 'DISCIPLE'. If they made a show about Green Arrow I'd have to gag. I like him on Smallville don't get me wrong, but his own show would be stupid.

    Why kill Chloe? Why?

Checkmate just got mentioned like 3 episdoes ago, it'll play out. Never fear.

Clark and Lois… now you got a point there. It's gonna be really sad when they don't work out. Oh Well. Clark'll move on. He always does (Lana).

  2. Awh. :(

  3. I miss the good old days when I could watch smallville, and then supernatural back to back. Now They're on different nights, bummer. But both shows have stepped up this season

  4. My Recap:

S1-8/10 awesome start but monotonous with the freak of the weeks
S2-9/10 explores origins and gets deeper into the mythology
S3-8/10 much darker(which is a good thing to me) but lana begins to get super annoying
S4-10/10 although some didnt like the similarities to buffy and angel this season, i loved every aspect of the season.
S5-10/10 another great season, again much darker, reminded me of season 3 only darker still. this season also has the best/worst episode entitle reckoning where Jonathan dies, and it was a powerful episode and it moved me and my wife.
S6-5/10 smallville begins to slip and get very boring and at this point i wanted it to end if not for the introduction of green arrow and bringing the flash, aqua man, cyborg, and supes and Green arrow together, and the intro of the martian manhunter.
S7-3/10 worst season by far! so many reasons, Kara was okay, but lex began to get annoying and they could not just let go of the Clark and Lana thing, theyre drama should have ended a long time ago.
S8-9/10 Smallville redeemed! Doomsday's storyline is great, i didnt like the doomsday look very much, it looked like he couldnt move in that big ol thing, intro to Mercy was great but halfway through the season i began to miss lex. very dark and grown-up season targeted at older audience.
S9-9/10 so far being at ep 16 it is pretty good season, not the best, but good.

Looking forward to season 10- Ill miss chloe if they kill her off but i understand if they do and they probably should. clark flying doesnt matter to me because we have seen what it looks like, so it wont be shocking to see him fly when we have already seen Kal-el fly. even though i know the hardcore fans probably disagree, i wouldnt mind if he does not dawn the suit, we are in a different age now and his look is good witht he trench-coat thing going on, but i dont blame the fans for wanting to preserve the suit.

Smallville movie- well quite frankly after Singer butchered Superman Returns and basically made a stupid sequel to the old superman movies and kept the music and credit style, he also picked terrible actors for the roles they were playing. Kevin Spacey which is an amazing actor captured Gene hackman's Lex very well, unfortunately, Gene hackman never should have een lex in the first place! the movie was just another Lex Luthor scheme to get rich by acquiring land, there wasnt even a villain! Terrible movie. I would rather make smallville into a movie and line it up with the batman begins timeline so the jla movie can be a reality(i realize this is impossible, there is no way they would make a tv show like smallville into the offical superman movie, and definitely not combine it with nolan's batman to make a jla movie, but its nice to think about.) but that is the biggest issue with the Superman returns movie was that it was a sequel instead of a re-make. if they would have remade it and started with him becoming supes, they could begin the JLA movie process like they are doing with the Avenger innitiative. anyway, im a loser, nothing more, nothing less. that was my rant and im sure no one agrees with me but thats okay.

  5. ok here it is ok i am looking forward to the next episode or season i want more action, romance, and more sizzle for this season to make me want to watch this i want an exuse to see this and come on you guys can make this the best if you put your minds to it so make this so you can have more fans, friends, and actors so you can make it better, juicer, spicey, and more eggsotic to make it to 100 persent ok i know i might be a 7th grader but i know what im saying and doing to you guys so i love you guys SMALLVILLE ROCKS MY WORLED AND MY LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. I am saddened to hear that season 10 of “Smallville” will be the last. My heart literally just died….sigh…. i am so excited about this series, and i see so much potential, wherein the series can be developed in soooo many ways. You have already hinted at the idea of the “Justice Society of America”, now you could continue to film series of the everyday superman, encountering other issues throughout daily life, while meeting other superheroes and villains, eventually forming a Justice League. “Justice League” here can be tied into the series, since we have seen in season9/ episode 10 that there are other characters (such as green lantern, flash, hawk girl/man, fate, wild cat) and their idea of having apprentices. You could also tie into the series batman, or other marvel comic characters…i would be really disappointed to think/know that i’m the only one who is sooo elated about this tv series, and i’m suure many people agree with my idea/suggestion. Though cost may also be an issue, i am simply suggesting ways in which, you could continue the TV series, by evolving the series into something MORE,(new name, same characters etc.) since it would now be outside of ‘smallville’, and inevitably, it will be beneficial to you where $$$ are concerned.
Please I am literally BEGGING that some thought be put into my suggestion/s. Thanks Much.
