Fear not, fans of Smallville, because if for some reason the show does not get picked up for another season (extremely unlikely) you can get your fill of Tom Welling another way – as a producer? Yep, I can’t believe it either, but sure looks that way as The CW has picked up the Tom Welling produced pilot, Hellcats.
Hellcats is an hour-long dramedy about competitive college cheerleaders. It’s being described as Election meets Bring it On. Hmmm… not exactly what I’d expect to come from someone who’s played Clark Kent for nine seasons. Also, doesn’t really sound like that good of a show concept.
No need to worry though, because if Mr. Welling’s series doesn’t seem to be your cup of tea you can always tune into the Hayden Panettiere produced series, HMS, about a team of medical students at Harvard. (HMS = Harvard Medical School)
If that still doesn’t fit your fancy (not really sure if that’s a real saying or if I made it up, but we’ll run with it) then you can always look forward to Betwixt, which is about changelings that save humans from evil? (Yeah, I’m not sure what I just said either, but that’s what it is.)
All this news of poor-sounding projects from The CW really has me quite perturbed. I thought for once that The CW was slowly making a name for itself instead of being known as “what became of UPN and WB.” With Smallville, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries and their new series, Life Unexpected, I would have thought that they’d want to add to their success… guess not.
So, when all of these shows premiere this fall, which ones will you be turning into?
Expect to see the Tom Welling produced Hellcats this fall on The CW, even if it is for a short time.

Hellcats hey! it sounds like it could end up like “Glee” meets “Fired Up”.
When I read the article I was feeling really glum about “Hellcats”. It sounded more like a reality show or documentary than a drama, and I was like, how Boring could Tom be!?
But, I suppose if they do it like the combination of “Glee” and “Fired Up”, then it might actually be interesting. I love “Glee”! And I've never been lucky enough to catch an episode of “Fired Up”, but I do remember my interest being peaked. The concept of the show sounded enticing.
When is Tom going to hit the big screens? He should travel through muddy forests and slay dragons, shoot power from the palms of his hands or something. He could be Percy Jackson's long long lost um brother or Harry Potter's latest evil foe or ally. Or if he would just rather break through the image of a whole sci-fi actor, he could always star in either a detective series, a soap opera, or be a hunk on Desperate Housewives for a while.
I am so ready for Tom to make the jump to the BIG SCREEN. I see him as a Modern Day triple threat – Cary Grant/Rock Hudson/John Wayne all rolled into one- oh the potential! I think he and Sandra Bullock would be fantastic opposite each other! This guy rides horses, cycles, and was a real athlete and wow is he charismatic. His looks are so great he jumps off any screen and his voice makes me think so much of Cary Grant – a quiet sutle lingering sexiness. He belongs in front of the camera! I like the idea of him carving out his own image like Sandra Bullock and Drew Barrymore have done while he produces too. It would be a crime for him to disappear behind the camera permanently!

I totally agree with you on the TW thing. The man who played Clark Kent for 9 years is making a CHEERLEADING show (OF ALL THING!)
