criminal minds jj final episode Criminal Minds Season 6 Review & Discussion: JJs Final Episode

Tonight, the CBS hit series Criminal Minds once again loses an original cast member, AJ Cook (Jennifer Jareau). The loss of cast members is not a new experience to fans of the show – as series lead Mandy Patinkin (Jason Gideon) and co-star Lola Glaudini (Elle Greenaway) have both previously departed from the series.

However, this time is different.

While Patinkin left Criminal Minds because he grew tired of the amount of violence in the series and Glaudini left to return to her home on the East Coast, Cook was unceremoniously fired. For some reason, “the powers that be” deemed Cook’s character to be expendable. Even though thousands of fans wrote CBS, ABC Studios (the production company), and signed petitions – there was nothing that could be done. AJ Cook was fired and Jennifer Jareau is gone.

As Criminal Minds continues forward, one has to wonder whether the absence of her character will be felt by those watching – especially after the terrible season 5 finale and season 6 premiere.

Is this the beginning of the end?

  1. damn, still going strong here huh…Vic…print this thread out and send it to CBS lol.

  2. JJ was the glue that kept the family together. Garcia hit it right on. She was filled with emotion and brought a sense of humantiy to life’s horrors with her role.
Why is it that suits mess with a good thing? Why don’t they listen to the public? It is us, the fans who make or break a show. They aren’t interested in making money? Yeah, right. The good shows are always messed with and they wonder why so many people are leaning away from TV.

JJ- You will be sorely missed. We cried with this episode, as we felt we were losing a family member. It’s not you. WE ALL LOVE YOU !!!!!

  3. The episode was one of the best in recent memory, but the move to get rid of JJ was not the right one. This group of people worked so well together that the viewers considered them as one. I hope that this is just a ploy for ratings and that they will bring her back. She really is an integral part of the show and is one of the favorite characters. I hope they bring her back quickly so as not to lose any viewership as their timeslot competition is fierce (the juggernaut “Modern Family”). “Criminal Minds” is one of the best series on television. It is an action oriented thriller with character driven drama. You don’t make it better by losing one of the favorite characters. Bring her back and lose the plans for a spinoff. Overkill is deadly…

    • Why change the perfect cast!!! I am so angry at these writers!!! Over some money!!! You are going to get rid of character who has been there since the beginning!! It is only a matter of time before they realize what a stupid thing they have done by the cutbacks and hopefully can get jj back!!! Before all your viewers go bye bye and soon that will be me of you don’t right your mistake by getting rid of jj!!!!

  4. Just for the record, CM was down 10% in the ratings last night.
Not a huge drop but they didnt get a bump from AJs departure episode.
I thought it was worth noting.

  5. what was the quote she said her last episode??

  6. A.J. just tweeted she is working on a movie with Jennifer morrisn.
    So , She is working.

    • I don’t care what that movie’s about. With those two actresses, I’m there. :)

    • If she left to take a hiatus to make a movie, like Olivia Wilde from House did, then good for her. They did leave the door open by saying they weren’t replacing her, so maybe she will be back? She is integral to the team, I love the show but it won’t be the same without her.

      • That would be nice, but CBS fired her. I doubt we’ll be treated to a return of her character. She’s a talented actress; if she signs onto another series, it would be even more doubtful that she could return – if she wanted to.

  7. Jennifer Morrison ,I meant .

  8. It is true there is a lot of violence on the program. The show will never be the same without JJ. She and Prentiss shows the difference in how male and female see different situations on the program. JJ gave the show “heart”. She added a kindness that will now be lacking in program. THere needs to be male and female roles, It gives a look at the fact women can be anything they want to be. I believe the show will probably lose a lot of it’s female audience. No one can replace JJ inand her true empathy shown to victims and victim families. Female stars tend to show this side better than men. IF SHE IS GONE pRENTISS’ ROLE SHOULD BE ENLARGED AND NOT CUT BACK. This may be the beginning of the end for Criminal Minds. JJ could never be replaced by another actrss with the same charsima as JJ Cook. I am very disappointed for those who think they “know the best”. Who is next after firing JJ and cutting back on Prentiss’ on set appearences, GArcia???????? That would be another BIG

    • Well said Karen S – I completely agree….I’m glad in the show “Hodge” said he was not replacing her – he was leaving her job open in case he can get her back” I’m hoping the network will come to their senses and bring JJ back. This is a show that my husband & I sit to watch together, how often does that happen anymore? As someone else said, each CM cast member brings something to the show and that’s why it has lasted as long as it has. Please CBS come to your senses and bring JJ (AJ Cook) back!!

    • CM was my favorite show until this season when you fired JJ. Both my husband and I agree the show is on it’s way out. We would rather have seen Rossi go then JJ. Why didn’t you leave a great show alone! You will wish you would have. It was one show I never wanted to miss and watch the re-runs over and over. Now I don’t know if I will watch or not. It will not be a priority anymore. You need to re-think your stupidity and bring her back.

  9. i’ve been tinking and i’ve reach to this conclusion. yesterday was the last episode of A.J. Cook but this is the last season of Paget Brewster. JJ was tranfered of her job so Emily is going to be killed or kill herself, or be commited in a psichiatric facility with a nervous breakdown. they can’t transfer both of them. i really don’t want to see Emily die or get crazy. i hope the writers find a way to let her go without any of this hypotesis being considered. i will stop warching the show after Emily’s departure.

  10. JJ’s Last Episode Quotes:
    1) “A tragedy need not have blood and death; it’s enough that it all be filled with that majestic sadness that is the pleasure of tragedy.” Jean Racine JJ

    2) I’m thankful for my years spent with this family; for everything we shared, every chance we had to grow. I’ll take the best of them and lead by their example; where ever I go. A friend told me to be honest with you, so here it goes. This isn’t what I want, but I’ll take the high road. Maybe it’s because I look at everything as a lesson, or I don’t want to walk around angry. Or maybe it’s because I finally understand. There are things we don’t want to happen, but have to except; things we don’t want to know, but have to learn, and people we can’t live without, but have to let go. AJ Cook

    • THANK YOU for posting this. I have searched the net and could not find.

  11. Cbs, you people of a bunch of sexest dunb-. This show had a good thing going with female and male characters. Now next season there are not going to be any!!!!!!!! CBS YOU DISAPOINT ME IN MANY WAYS!!!! when cm is cancelled you will realise your stupid mistakes!!!!! Even a highschooler can see what fans like!!!! DISAPPOINTING!!!!!!!

  12. I’m not sure what cbs is thinking here. I sure looks like an ego powerplay with a healthy dollop of control poured on top. I think that the powers that be are fully aware of what they are doing but are putting their personal agendas ahead of the success of a show and certainly above the interests of the fans of a show. The fan has no value except as a means to an end. True but sad.

  13. Here we go again, some so called top notch executive thinks he knows what millions of viewers are thinking and he or she is so wrong. JJ needs to be back on that show. She is what gave us the true human aspect of what families are going through what they are feeling she held that group together. I feel like I’ve been punched in the stomach, I have been a loyal fan from the beginning and this is the thanks you get. No say so in this decision. I am sure the show will go on but I am also sure because of the great cast chemistry that was created and now taken away viewership will drop, thanks to some stupid top notch executive dummy who doesn’t know how fans really love this show just the way it is. Don’t fix what isn’t broken. BRING HER BACK, RECONSIDER, PLEASE

  14. So many shows think they can improve but switching out characters and get a bump in the ratings, yet they forget the loyalty the viewers have to not only the show, but also the characters. I remember watching the revoloving door known as NYPD Blue. After a few character switches, it became ridiculous.

So Criminal Minds, I guess this is the begining of the end, at least for me. Whereas as before I never checked for other choices, now I’ll start to do so.

  15. I love this show, but I have to say, it took a complete moron to get rid of AJ Cook. what were they thinking? Or, NOT. Sorry to say, but I will not be watching the show anymore. Someone needs to get their head out of their u know what.. Was a great show until now.

  16. i really cried when i looked at this. i hate when this happens. the network breaks the original cast up. i hope they bring her back, because she had that calm and caring demeanor

  17. however i loved the fact that the daughter was found alive. the best part of the show was when jj had her flashbacks and the mom was laying in the hospital bed with her daughter.

    • It was great to see that both JJ’s survived. :) It proved how effective the team can do its job.

  18. I hope the review is still coming, I would really like to know what Anthony thought.

  19. This crazy! CBS is trying to kill this show what’s next? Someone needs to pull their head out their butt. If it’s not broke don’t try to fix it!!

  20. I cannot believe they got rid of JJ she was the glue I thought, without her it means Hodge will be doing her role and we all know how morose he is.
Whwn will TV studios ever wake up and realize not to change a winning
    ensemble cast.

  21. In a way I can see their point, but it’s one that should have been figured the first season and not this far in to it. They’ve written her into some fairly dramatic scenes, but for the most part the show is about this team working together to figure out the big puzzle in time to stop someone from killing again. JJ is the PR person who though important is generally not directly involved with solving puzzle so that makes her not as important to the flow of the show.

Her first season she seemed out of place. Like you had these uber serious crime fighters and then this cute office worker thrown in for no real reason than to have a cute cheerleader looking female popping in and out. This conclusion should have been made back then though when she wasn’t given so many segments that made her a real vital part of the team. At this late date in the series it seems to be a foolish decision all the way around. It makes me wonder if it’s not personal, but who knows?

  22. this is crazy and I can’t believe they would let such a great actor and key character go

  23. I agree with everyone. This was a show that I looked forward to watching with my husband every week. I totally connected with JJ’s character and this episode totally threw me. I had no idea she was leaving. It will not be the same without her. She brought such empathy to the show. Her character was part of the complete family of characters that made this show what it is. I am very upset at this turnout of events. I don’t know if the show can recover without her character.

  24. CBS finally gets a good show on the air and then pulls this. JJ was one of my favorite characters and CBS execs are idiots. I guess they don’t care if anyone watches their network so I will oblige them and say goodbye.
