law order ci1 Law & Order: CI Cast Change Up

USA Network is working to get season number 9 of the Law & Order spin-off, Criminal Intent, but we’re looking at some changes.

Julainne Nicholson has opted to not return.  Her possible replacement could be Saffron Burrows (My Own Worst Enemy).

The veterans of the series, Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, are looking to return in some capacity.  Not sure what though.

Law & Order… It just keeps on ticking & ticking.  Sometimes that’s good, sometimes it just gets long in the tooth.  How do you folks feel about Law & Order:CI?  Let us know.

  1. Casting changes and revolving doors on a Law & Order show are nothing out of the ordinary. As to D’Onofrio and Erbe, I suspect it will be the bi-weekly format that started a few years ago, alternating between the two sets of detectives of CI.

  2. i loved it…when it was on nbc

  3. It’s interesting to me how the most stable character in the rotation has been Vincent D’Onofrio, who literally exhausted himself a few seasons ago (which led to the bi-weekly format, as I recall). Yet it’s been the additional supporting cast that has been ever-changing. I’ve lost count of the number of female detectives to go through the Major Case Squad now. Hopefully Eric Bogosian won’t seem so bored this year.

  4. If D’Onofrio comes back … I’ll be watching. If he doesn’t come back, I won’t be. It’s as simple as that!

  5. This my favourite show and unlike many other shows it keeps getting better every year. The cast changes have added new life to the show, Jeff Goldblum got better as the season went along and I no longer keep thinking of him as the same character he was in Raines (sadly neglected show). Criminal Intent should survive as long as D’Onofrio and Erbe continue on the show as they could not be replaced as their chemistry is perfect. Also Eric Bogosian adds an edge to the show that was missing with Jamey Sheridan. Since Life was cancelled I am running out of shows to watch!

  6. I second what Judy posted. I only watch LOCI when D’onofrio and Erbe are on. After viewing a few interviews with VOD I wonder if he would prefer to act in films and not television. I, selfishly, hope he remains as Detective Robert Goren because he’s a brilliant actor and he and Eames compliment each other perfectly.

  7. Since I will watch anything that Vincent D’Onofrio is in, I’ll be watching. I also think CI is by far the best of the L&Os and deserves to get more notice than it does.

  8. I was starting to get used to these guys and now they want to change it up?

  9. Love D’Onofrio but I have really come to like Jeff Goldblum’s character as well. Too bad Julianne Nicholson is out, considering she just came back. Not seeing Saffron Burrows as a good fit, however.

  10. Why do they have to split the series at all? They did it because Vincent was ill, BUT that’s when they filmed 22 episodes a year. Now that they only film 16 things should be fine. Vincent D’Onofrio IS LO:CI and without him I’ll never watch another episode, no matter WHO they get to replace him! PLEASE PLEASE give us Bobby and Alex back because without Vicent D’onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, they might as well just end the show!!
PS. They might want to try different writers this season, this new bunch wasn’t great.

  11. The only Law and Order show I watch with any regularity any more is SVU. There is only so much L&O I can take…

  12. I have watched CI since the first episode and haven’t missed one since. I love Vincent D’Onofrio and Kate Erbe, they are both truly gifted and the show would fold without them in the main roles. Jeff Goldblum is doing better and will probably fit into his role well no matter who is his partner. I wish they would comtimes combine the 2 for episodes as it would be fun to watch the interplay. If Vincent or Kate leave I will no longer watch the show, it has never been given the notice it deserves not have Vincent and Kate been given the praise their acting abilities deserve, hence they deserve to both win emmy’s, golden globe etc.

  13. At least someone in the news business got the story right. They were say that Safforn Burrow would be partnered with Chris Noth!! Guess some people don’t watch the show & know what they’re talking about.
I love CI even though I’ve been watching it since the 3rd season. VDO’s character is the coolest detective. I’ve gotten used to Jeff’s character so maybe another season he’ll grow even more.
Is there going to be a new season? Last I heard USA was waffling about whether they were going to renew them or not. I certainly hope so.

  14. I’ve tried and I’ve tried and as strange as it seems
I can’t watch the show without Goren and Eames
    When put to the test
    Their acting’s the best
They out think the bad guys, the crooks and the fiends.

I love it when Bobby bends over to look
Right in the face of a shifty eyed crook
    Or invades their space
With that look on his face
That says I’ve snagged you sinker and hook.

Jeff was okay as that hideous fly
Vincent much better as cockroach guy
    Both played their parts
    With all of their hearts
But Goren’s the best on LOCI.

  15. I enjoy the show especially with D’Onofrio. Goldblum’s episodes did get better. Never was a fan of Nicholson so I’m glad she will be replaced. Don’t remember seeing Burrows in anything, so I can’t make a decision on her. Actually it might be good to change the pair-up of Goren & Eames: that shakeup might be good for both sets of detectives.

  16. I love all the LO’s and Vincent is the BEST! Jeff did grow on me during the season. The women (except for Erbe) can kind of come and go without much trouble with transition. I hope people appreciate how well Kate’s character plays off of Vincents. I don’t think anyone could do as well a job as she does.

  17. I saw Saffron Burrows in her film debut with Minnie Driver and Chris O Donnell in Circle of Friends.
    She will do fine.
    I will miss Nicholson though.
    I liked her chracter.

  18. Loved all the comments here…seems we all agree that LOCI is the best of LO series and that the driving force behind that is Vincent D’Onofrio. Both he and Kate are way underated! The truly are the BEST of the BEST and without them….I won’t watch any more. With all the nonsense that USA broadcasts you think they would welcom a REAL program with REAL actors!! Get a grip USA and lets get Boby and Alex going on season 9 soon!! We are waiting!!!

  19. This is my favourite L&O and I agree totally that the inclusion of Goren and Eames is a must. I would like to see the return Alicia Witt as Nola Falacci as I think her attitude coupled with Jeff Goldblum’s character could make interesting viewing.

  20. I would sorely miss CI if if goes off the air. Plus, this would be a real insult to Jeff Goldblum if he were only cast to finish off a dying series. Is it dying? My favorite actor in the series is D’Onofrio–I admire his character immensely and feel such rapport with him. I certainly hope that if CI goes off the air, we will at least be treated to some sort of wrap-ups for the characters’ very interesting backstories.

  21. I would hate to see Vincent D’Onofrio and Katherine Erbe leave the show. I probably would stop watching it if that happens.

  22. I have been a fan of LOCI from the beginning. The actors, actresses and writers have made it worth watching. Thank you USA for taking it on after NBC didn’t. I am looking forward to a 9th season.

  23. That would bite to bring on Goldblum to close out a series. We can only hope it keeps going.

  24. I love CI,I catch it now and then but I really enjoy it when I do. D’onofrio really makes the show worth watching. Goldblum seems to be a fitting addition to the show as well. I’m interested to see how everything plays out.

  25. I surely hope we continue to see Vincent D’onofrio in Law and Order CI he is wonderful actor. I would watch him in any available venue. I have and still enjoy watching his films and the way that he reaches out to his audience makes you feel his drama and lets you be part of the ride. Plus he is very handsome and sexy. No harm in seeing that.
