One of the coolest movies coming out this year is the sci-fi/Western genre mash-up, Cowboys & Aliens. Directed by Jon Favreau and featuring an all-star cast including Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell, Cowboys & Aliens takes us back to the Old West for a unique take on the alien invasion theme.
This just-released Super Bowl TV spot gives us several new glimpses at the alien vehicles as they – in Western archetype style – swoop down to “rope” up their victims, which in this case, are people and not cattle. Head over to the following page for the rest of the Super Bowl movie trailers.
An obvious challenge for Universal Pictures, director Jon Favreau and producer/writers Bob Orci, Alex Kurtzman and the rest of the writing team has been to overcome the initial response to the film’s title. “Cowboys & Aliens” earned laughs upon the reveal of the logo when the first full trailer premiered, but those involved know to let the film speak for itself. Watch and see how serious the Western element of the movie is – This is not your Mars Attacks:
The alien drone designs are very unique, almost organic in how they move. While we see a lot of Cowboys in action against the Alien attackers, we don’t see the horror element of the aliens themselves, and we at Screen Rant are happy that not everything is being spoiled in the advertising.
We were fortunate enough to fly down to New Mexico during the filming of key sequences of Cowboys & Aliens for a set visit and this TV spot, with the previously released Cowboys & Aliens trailer should help you understand how Jon Favreau’s latest easily placed high in our top 20 most anticipated movies of 2011.
Cowboys & Aliens is scheduled for release on July 29th, 2011. It is directed by Jon Favreau and produced by Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Scott Mitchell Rosenberg. The screenplay is written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof, inspired by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg’s graphic novel.
