cop out movie poster Cop Out Red Band Trailer

So the first trailer for Kevin Smith’s A Couple of Dicks Cop Out dropped awhile back, but it was so bad that apparently we didn’t even bother to post it!

No real loss, though, as the only thing the theatrical trailer accomplished was making your head ache while you wondered A) What’s happened to Kevin Smith? B) What is Bruce Willis doing in a film like this? C) How can Tracy Morgan be go from being funny in a show like 30 Rock to being the most unfunny person ever filmed?

Today we have a new red-band trailer for Cop Out and it certainly answers 2 out of those 3 questions asked above.

The two answers we get from this red band trailer are:

  1. Kevin Smith is still just too damn raunchy for your average theatrical trailer.
  2. Tracy Morgan is still just too damn crazy AND raunchy for your average trailer.

I still have no explanation for what Bruce Willis is doing up in this movie, though. No explanation at all…

Anyway, this new red band trailer for Cop Out is a bit funnier than its green band predecessor – however, I’m still not convinced this movie is worth the price of admission.

Check out the red band trailer and decide for yourself:

The little kid bit was the funniest thing I saw, and that Seann William Scott bit in the car makes more sense now that I’ve seen it in full curse-word mode – but Tracy Morgan’s character having a girlfriend like Rashida Jones??? PLEASE.

Like I said, still not worth the price of admission for me – I’ll probably save this one for my Netflix que. How about you – did the red band trailer change your mind any?

Just so you have an idea of how unfunny the theatrical trailer was, I’ve posted it below.

Cop Out hits theaters on February 26, 2010.

  1. I'm there. And as for Bruce Willis, have you ever seen the movie Blind Date? He can definitely do funny. (I also enjoyed The Whole Nine Yards). But, Kevin Smith, Tracy Morgan, that little kid, Kevin Pollack, and Jason Lee is supposed to be in it too.

Sean William Scott is an added bonus, because he's always funny as hell.

  2. Go to youtube and search for Smiths story about working with Willis on Die Hard 4, if you make it through the entire thing (and it's damn funny), you may get an answer to how exactly Willis ended up working with Kevin Smith.

As for the movie, I'm always willing to give Smith a chance, I actually like Zach and Miri make a porno (hell, I didn't think Jersey Girl was that bad) and this red band trailer did make it look pretty damn funny (i.e, I laughed at it, which is more than can be said for the first trailer).

  3. I can't wait. Tracy has restored my faith in him since doing 30 Rock, Bruce's comedies tend to be entertaining (even the “horrible” ones like Hudson Hawk, yes I do remember actually liking and laughing at it no matter how bad it was), and for the most part Kevin Smith is pretty damn good. I really cant' wait for this. I wish they had kept with the original title. I can't wait to get home today to watch this.

  4. The Red Band trailer is WAY funnier, the theatrical trailer shows more action, less humor, and since this is a comedy, it doesn't do the film justice.

  5. That black guy might be the unfunniest individual I have ever seen.

Every iota of respect I had for Kevin Smith has gone, the movies that he made that I love now feel tarnished.

  6. Funny as hell, I was worried after the first trailer. Not anymore.

  7. Yeah and that white guy is'nt a comedian, wtf!?

  8. Couple of laughs out of me on that one (kid getting punched in the nuts was funny, I'm sorry), but it looks painful to sit through for an hour and a half.

  9. We've already seen that in Lethal Weapon Series

  10. Looks like a mindless comedy, which is fine and can be fun. Sure, it's no Knocked Up or 40-year-old Virgin, but if you're in the right mood, this looks like just what the doctor ordered.

I too think this trailer made up for the garbage of a 1st trailer. Much funnier, and a couple of “cringe” worthy moments (“orally fixated” scene is dumb)

Sean William Scott is still funny and I know I'm one of the very few ppl that think so.

    “Who's car is this?”
    “Your mama's”

  11. I actually can't wait to see this movie, since I live like 10 minutes from Bruce Willis' Jersey hometown. I think it's awesome to see these two Jersey Boys finally making a flick.

The funny thing is that during the premiere of Jersey Girl, Kevin Smith told the crowd that he originally asked Willis to be in it, but he turned it down, so Kevin gave the part to his old pal Affleck.

So yeah, the whole Jersey thing is why I think Willis is in it.

  12. Now that ive seen the red ban trailer, ill prob give this a peep.

  13. Yeah, the theatrical looks significantly better.

  14. I meant to say red-band. My browser won't let me edit.

  15. Not quite, Smith wrote Jersey Girl specifically for Affleck, it was always going to be him in the main role, Smith wanted Willis for the big Celebrity cameo that eventually went to Will Smith.

But Kevin has always idolised Bruce Willis and after his stint on Die Hard 4, Willis suggested they work on something (with Kevin lamenting that that would never happen as he doesn't write Bruce Willis movies, which is why Cop out is a nice bit of happen-stance).

And yeah, I'm sure Jersey has a little to do with it, since they're both Jersey boys.

  16. Essentially Mel Gibson wasn't funny in Lethal Weapon. Although there were funny parts, the Lethal Weapon series was serious not funny.

  17. I agree, Vic. Why do moviemakers think that just because there is a lot of swearing and sex jokes, that a movie will be funny? I am a huge Bruce Willis fan, but this just looks awful. I still don't see how anyone can think Tracy Morgan is funny. He's the worst part of 30 Rock. Looks like he'll be the annoying sidekick in this film…kinda like Chris Tucker in the Rush Hour films.

  18. It looks watchable. I've seen worse I suppose…….. PAUL BLART MALL COP

  19. This one is much better than the theatrical trailer. Looks like it could have its funny moments, but I have a feeling that there may only be scattered moments of good humor. However, probably something that I would rent once it is out on dvd.

  20. “Sure, it's no Knocked Up or 40-year-old Virgin, but if you're in the right mood, this looks like just what the doctor ordered.”

Sure. If the doctor ordered a steaming pile of crap.

  21. Leave the comedy to the professionals :)
