Well the title “Cool Stuff” is already taken by my buddy Pete over at /Film, and although I hate “cute” names for things I had to come up with something different – so until someone comes up with a better title, I’m going to lump stuff like this under “SR Picks.” Help us come up with a name!
When I saw this thing over at Sideshow Collectibles my eyes about popped out of my head. In case you don’t know – I’m a HUGE Iron Man fan and own a number of cool collectible statues, comiquettes, busts and yes, even toys. The last thing I really wanted was the life size Stan Winston bust from these guys, but it was just too far out of my price range.
But dang it, now I see this thing and it’s making the credit card in my back pocket itch to be pulled out. I suppose the only saving grace is that although this only came out a couple of days ago it already sold out – ah, but there’s a wait list for it and a good chance that I could still get my hands on one.
Here’s the official description of this comiquette:
The latest to join Sideshow’s line of Marvel collectibles is the Classic Iron Man Comiquette. The 1:4 scale comiquette features the classic comic book costume, harkening back to the root of Tony Stark’s bold spirit and patriotism. Each piece is hand cast in highest quality polystone and hand finished to Sideshow’s exacting standard. Adorned in his trademark red and gold armor and finished with a dazzling and realistic looking metallic paint, Iron Man stands tall and proud flying the flag of his country. The Classic Iron Man Comiquette is an outstanding addition to any collection, a stunning representation of old Shellhead in all his glory
Did you catch that “scale” mention? This thing is 31″ tall and weighs 12 pounds! Here are a couple more pictures of it:
Is that cool or what?
Now they do have another version that’s not quite so “limited” and is still available which has Tony Stark in full armor mode, wearing the helmet:
Personally, I would hold out for the “helmet in hand” version, but then again I already own a ton of “fully armored” Iron Man memorabilia.
If you want to see more pictures of either of the statues (or are interested in picking up a statue) click on any of the images above or here for more info.

sweet! it would match my stelth armor Bust!
all i need now is a warmachine comiquette.
Where can you get display cases for things like this to keep dust off them? I don’t mean like a big cabinet, I mean like a glass display stand for individual figures like this one. Anyone know?
abs, obliques, rib-abs…and i thought bat-nips were a dealbreaker…
The facial expression looks a little malevolent or mischievous, but it’s damn impressive and beautiful overall!
I’m with JC. The interpretation looks a little too “sprayed on” to suit me.
Ouch that’s gotta hurt..
A case… make one!
Actually Vic as the ultimate “Iron Man” fan you need one with you in the armor.
aww hell check your mail!
Uh, guys… that’s how the armor USED to be in the comics.
Vic
Wow. Thats beautiful. Wish I had money for something like that. I love the patriotism in that. I found an Iron Man t shirt at some local comic shop that looked very similar to that. It is my favorite shirt!
I actually like SR Picks lol
how about Vic’s Picks?
as far as the statue it’s definitely good looking. I’m a little undecided on the face though……..I think it’s more the hairdo than anything but he’s looking a little too germanesque with the goatee lookin like it does
Yea Vic I think I remember reading the words “Iron Spandex” coined to describe it. I thought at one point a version of the suit was some kind of metal cloth? It just seems even a classic suit rendered as a statue wouldn’t be so thin, otherwise Stark would be a stick man. Then too, I guess the argument could be made as an early suit, it was adequate, given the threats of the day..
On a completely different matter in the third picture do you see a set of eyelids in the helmet? spooky!
They actually de-powered the armor over the last few years in the comics. The idea was that it was a fabric-like micro-tile mesh held in place by magnetic fields. Almost like a nano-tech, so it could be very thin.
And, yes, I noticed the eyes.
In the old suit he just looked out through the eye slits.
Vic
Vic Holtreman said, “In the old suit he just looked out through the eye slits” Yeah I remember that too, but the helmet in his hand has human eyelids. Someone at Sideshow owes me a prize for catching that..
