Contagion movie TV Spots Contagion TV Spots Promise Big Stars and Big Fears

Steven Soderbergh is releasing a big mainstream feature film this fall with Contagion. While the acclaimed director has put out smaller films like The Informant! or The Girlfriend Experience in recent years, we haven’t seen him construct an big ensemble piece like Traffic or the Ocean’s Eleven series for quite some time.

Following the Contagion trailer, two new TV spots have been released for the film, playing up its two most marketable qualities: A) That it boasts a cast of big stars, including Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Kate Winslet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bryan Cranston, Jude Law and recent Man of Steel addition, Laurence Fishburne. B) That this movie will explore the nature of fear, and what happens when fear (and its cousin, panic) begin to seize a seemingly “civilized” world.

Take a look at the two Contagion TV spots below and see if you can’t determine which one is the “stars” spot and which one is the “fears” spot:

Gripping tension, quality acting and quality direction/editing by Soderbergh are the three most likely reasons to see this film, which on paper bares a close resemblance to so many other ‘mass pandemic’ movies we’ve seen before. In fact, if you haven’t seen our Contagion/Outbreak trailer mashup, you should take a look now. The two movies really are uncannily similar.

Soderbergh also has an action flick coming out early next year in the form of Haywire, an ex-spy-out-for-revenge story. At the Haywire Comic-Con panel the director let it be known that news of his impending retirement has been greatly exaggerated, which will be good news to those who enjoy the thrills of Contagion and Haywire, respectively.

Contagion will be in theaters on September 9, 2011.

  1. The more times that I see the trailer, the more uninterested I become with this movie.

Idk,it reminds me too much of Outbreak.

It definitely could be good, just not $10 movie theater good.

  2. Great TV spots.

This film could turn out to be a huge hit because the cast seems okay and the director is good.

The problem is that will it turn out to be like Outbreak or more scary and thrilling than it.

  3. I was just thinking the same thing, this will definitely be a Netflixer

  4. As others are saying, it really looks like a rehash of Outbreak.
    BUT!
It could have its own unique take on the matter.
    Who knows, fingers crossed.
