From the descriptions in the other post, I can only see him as Khalar Singh. Unless of course he plays Conan, but he’s too old for that part.

Of the list, I would also think Khalar Singh, but that character seems to be Conan’s main adversary, and not a ‘cameo’ let alone a small part. Also, while Dolph would make a nice heavy in the film, the desciption seems to exclude him ethnic wise. The next role close to Dolph would that be of a monk…a smaller supporting role. But after giving it a quick thought, I know where they can put Lundgren. Screenrant didn’t “give the full list”, (you have to follow another link for that) – I didn’t even go there because I already knew, and a smile went on my face.

CONSIDER:

In the original film, a 70s/early 80’s character actor-tough guy William Smith (Any Which Way You Can, Hammer, Angels Die Hard) played, briefly, Conan’s father. If the casting for the new film is right, then there is something to do with an attack on young Conan’s villiage as well as his family.

A father teaching his son the ways of the sword and the riddle of steel!

That’s right!
THAT’S Lundgren’s cameo right there! Perfect!

Better than Conan 1, No. Better than Conan 2 yes that’s do-able. Retell the origin story? Lost my interest by a wide margin. “Red Nails” story wise would be better.

Arnold was something at his prime but the mutants coming out of the gyms these days is, well amazing. Just watch any showing of the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) and you’ll see literal giants among men.

As for being better (non-physically speaking) that’s not too hard to do because Arnie wasn’t exatcly the thespian actor back then or even in later years.

While no thespian actor himself, I think Dwayne THE ROCK Johson is superios to Arnold in every way as far as acting goes and would probably be a far better suite to play Conan. He would need to beef up some and go thru some make over changes but this is not something that would be unique to this film.

When they do remake CONAN I hope they cast RAY STEVENSON from “THE PUNISHER – WAR ZONE” as a villian. i think he would be awesome as a bad guy. Him or Vinnie jones and when it came to the climatic fight sceen it would be more logical for Conan to go up against another giant among men.

As for DOlph, I’d like to see him get another shot at bump up his start statyus because he is a decent actor, far better then many out there. And most imporatnt he’s put in his dues doing the STD’s (Starigh-To-DISC movies) and deserves a shot at big time again.

Duane Johnson is black. Conan is Gaelic/Celtic…CONAN does not need to be played by a gym rat either. Yes a big guy is needed for the part but no gym monkey with muscles on top of muscles.
This film is not supposed to be a remake but rather the telling of how CONAN became a KING. ” The Pheonix on the sword ” will probably be broken down into a simpler story for the screen play…and yes I am sure there will be some flashback sequences…and Rudolpho ( Dolph ) will most likely be involved in said flashbacks. But the 1982 film messed up the real origins of the character. CONAN left his village and became a traveller around the age of 16 and a half. His dad did teach him the art of Blacksmithing and how to wield a sword…so hopefully they get it right this time.

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment of the body type. I’ve known farmers built as well as Duane that were neither black nor gym anything just very hard workers…

On one of those rare occassions I agree with OldMan that your statement is far from accurate. First off The Rock is not so Black (as you put it) that he can’t pull off the whole warriro look; did you see Scorpion King? Even though Conan is from a different era then that of Scorpion King it doesn’t imply that no one who doesn;t have the same skin tone as Arnold can’t portray the character. Unless they paint up some guy Blue or something out there like that, the skin tone should be less important then the over all look and quality of the person portarying the character.

BTW – Those of us who have been former Gym rats don’t all look like what you describe of having muscle on top of muscle. Are you some skinny kid jealous of those with muscles or what?

Mikeyboy says:

I’m sorry pardon me…the Rock is black and Polynesian. Not entirely of African heritage. I simply meant to say that although I am a fan of his I would not consider him for the part…based on ethnicity. I want to see a real live ancient Celtic Gaelic berserker warrior that actually does fit the bill. Just an opinion that’s all. K?
And no..not skinny…built kind of like former pro wrestler Greg Valentine but I have tattoos and a mohawk.
Hence Mikeyboy is my street name too.

Mikeyboy says:

what I consider a gym rat to be are dudes who work out 24 – 7 and weight train for that look…it’s an accepted colloquiallism. People who train for fitness and to maintain a healthy lifestyle are fitness freaks…another accepted term. I am neither putting these people down nor am I being discriminatory. I applaud them…I would not like it if people had issues with me riding my bike and for wearing cut off shirts and leathers to expose my tats..it’s my choice. So …we’re just sharing opinions right? I aint looking for trouble or a fight.
