The New York Comic Con, though not as big and popular as the massive event that is the San Diego Comic Con, still brings out people in droves – and where there are comic book fans, there are sure to be plenty of people dressed in cosplay. NYCC 2011 was no exception.

Ranging from store-bought superhero costumes to elaborate and expensive homemade costumes, the cosplay fanatic will go to great lengths to dress as their favorite superhero, sci-fi, fantasy or anime character. In the world of cosplay, originality is the key to being successful and success is often judged by the number of people asking to take your picture.

New York Comic Con 2011 hit in full force this past weekend, with companies showing off the latest X-Men: Regenesis comic series and characters from Marvel, interesting looks at Total Recall, Ghost Rider 2 and Underworld 4 from Sony, updates regarding Batman: Year One and Justice League: Doom from DCU Animation. While some might think the highlight of the Con was the unveiling of footage from the highly-anticipated, Joss Whedon comic book movie The Avengers – the true reason to attend this (and any Comic Con, really) are the babes dressed in cosplay.

Comic-Cons are like superhero Halloween – i.e., they give women a reason to dress-up in skimpy comic book attire and parade around in public – and the comic book fans enjoy every minute of it. Geoff Johns Hopes ‘Green Lantern 2′ Will Happen

Director Martin Campbell’s live-action Green Lantern movie arrives on DVD and Blu-ray later this week. However, many a Lantern fan is really waiting to find out if Green Lantern 2 will actually happen… or is the franchise going to be left in stasis until Warner Bros. decides to try and (dare it be said) reboot the comic book franchise sometime in the future?

Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes previously stated that the Green Lantern sequel’s status is (for now) uncertain. Nonetheless, DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns remains hopeful that a direct followup to Campbell’s adaptation will actually happen.

Quibbles about the thematic quality of Green Lantern aside (for now…), it was the film’s box office performance that was ultimately responsible for the sequel’s current condition. Campbell’s movie managed a worthy worldwide gross of about $220 million, ...

The Walking Dead season 2 is just hours away, so fan anticipation is reaching rabid zombie levels as AMC’s hit horror drama makes its return to the halls of the IGN theater at New York Comic-Con 2011.

However, aside from the excitement of seeing Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his fellow survivors once again try to make their way through a world that has become hell on Earth, there are even more pressing behind-the-scenes questions that need to be answered, such as the state of cast and crew morale in light of Frank Darabont leaving the show (being fired from the show, more accurately) and if looming issues like budget constraints will effect the path of season 2, once production starts on the post-Darabont episodes.

Sony Panel NYCC ’11: ‘Ghost Rider 2′, ‘Underworld 4′ & ‘Total Recall’

Sony made a big splash at New York Comic-Con 2011, bringing presentations and footage for their upcoming slate of blockbuster movies. The biggest films fans are expecting to see at NYCC are Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, The Amazing Spider-Man and the Total Recall remake, so the only question is: will Sony fulfill their wishes or leave them feeling disappointed?

Although Disney is cautiously moving forward with TRON 3, fans can take comfort in the knowledge that that there won’t be another 28-year gap between installments in the sci-fi series. However, progress on the next live-action TRON movie will partially be affected by the reception for TRON: Uprising, a new animated series that is being developed by Disney XD.

The TRON TV show naturally had a presence at the recent 2011 Comic-Con in San Diego, where attendees were treated to some new footage from the show – and now, that material is online for everyone else to check out.

Kurt Fuller Says ‘Ghostbusters 3′ Shouldn’t Be Made; Discusses Bill Murray

It appears that the resident Ghostbusters 3 hold-out, Bill Murray, has added another man to his corner of unassured confidence in a possible threequel for the hit franchise, as Ghostbusters 2 alum Kurt Fuller says that he doesn’t believe Ghostbusters 3 should be made.

We spoke with Ghostbusters 2’s proverbial “pecker” while at Comic-Con about his role of Woody the coroner on the USA hit series Psych, and it appears that Fuller has still not completely taken Peter Venkman’s advice from the Ghostbusters sequel: “Aren’t you supposed to lie to me and kiss my butt?” though some “but kissing” does naturally occur.

What with all the massive movie, television, and comic book announcements at Comic-Con 2011, it was easy to overlook some of the animated superhero announcements, both in film and television.

DC, as per usual, had a pretty large showing with Green Lantern: The Animated Series video clips and announcements about their 2012-2013 schedule – including the animated adaptations of The Dark Knight Returns, Justice League: Doom, and The Killing Joke.

But Marvel’s slate, which included footage of Ultimate Spider-Man, was nothing to scoff at, either.

When everyone’s favorite face of geek culture, Wil Wheaton, ventures to Comic-Con, no topic is off limits to the masterful mind behind Eureka’s most fan-favorite pseudo-villain – including online piracy.

Shortly following the Eureka panel at Comic-Con, we spoke with Wheaton about his feelings towards online piracy, content availability and what the entertainment industry is going to do about it. As expected, Wheaton revealed his honest feelings about online piracy – including the fact that the entertainment industry is to blame for it in the first place.

DreamWorks’ Fright Night remake did all right for itself with its panel at the 2011 Comic-Con this past weekend. More footage was shown of fan-favorite David Tennant as Las Vegas showman/vampire slayer Peter Vincent, as well as digs at the all-too-popular Twilight franchise.

That Comic-Con material is now online, along with a new international trailer for the Fright Night reworking. But does the tongue-in-cheek horrorfest look better or worse for it?

When the first Fright Night trailer hit the scene, it suggested the remake could be more serious and grim in tone than the 1985 original – not to mention visually dark and murky, making the 3D effect seem less appealing. Fox’s uber sci-fi project Terra Nova was out in full force at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, but the real fireworks didn’t start until the live panel featuring Avatar‘s Stephen Lang.

Before the short panel with the star and producers, Fox showed off almost a full hour of footage from Terra Nova, easily eclipsing the brief looks we’d been given before. While this is still only half of the two-hour premiere currently slotted for September, it’s more than enough for an initial story breakdown and impressions.

‘Legend of Korra’ Comic-Con Trailer: The Next Avatar

Nickelodeon’s upcoming spin-off animated series, The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra, is easily one of the most anticipated TV titles on the horizon. Attendees at the 2011 Comic-Con got an early look at the show, which was conceived by original Avatar: The Last Airbender creators Bryan Konietzk and Michael DiMartino.

The Comic-Con trailer for Legend of Korra has made its way online, and it (naturally) begs the question: How does this new series look to compare to the beloved original Last Airbender show?

In a few words, Legend of Korra aims to be a darker, more mature, and more technically-proficient journey into the Avatar world of element benders and fantastical creatures. That much was made clear back when the show was officially greenlit by Nickelodeon heads just over a year ago.

‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ Comic-Con Trailer: Apes Run Amok

As we wind down Comic-Con 2011 we look ahead toward all the great sci-fi, fantasy and superhero films that the ‘Con teased us with, and that includes Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

This prequel/reboot of the Planet of the Apes franchise has James Franco playing a brilliant scientist whose would-be cure for Alzheimer’s inadvertently creates an ape of remarkable intelligence, fittingly named “Caesar.” The ape will be brought to life onscreen via some equally remarkable motion-capture CGI technology, combined with another great turn by CGI character actor, Andy Serkis (The Hobbit, King Kong).

The Doctor is in at the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, as the BBC hosts the annual American incursion of Doctor Who. If you can’t be on hand for the panel itself, Screen Rant’s got you covered with a live blog of all the questions and answers posed to the actors and crew members.
