i don't think Rose McGowan can pull this role off, she is to small ( 5'2"), and not that good of an actress
Laura Prepon, now she has the right figure and is sexy as all hell to boot

just my thought on the matter

Yeah, that poster didn't do much for me. Kind of a creepy porn movie vibe.

@ greenknight333: You mean they didn't originate in that media then adapted to the screen. Well Ok, but that's splitting hairs pretty fine.. :)

Back in 88 Dark Horse did a limited
run aliens comic that had Ripley
in it. I remember reading them.

In 01 Dan Jurgens did Tomb Raider graphic novels. You can find them on Amazon too.

Old Man

Croft, Yu, and Ripley were not comic book characters. I thought Tomb Raider was basically fluff but it had promise. The other two characters were indeed strong female characters with Ripley being one of the best heroines of all time!! LOved her in Alien and Aliens...SHowed how a strong woman can overcome anything and be tough, strong and sexy at the same time...I was only talking about CBM with female leads..I thought Whedon would have been a lock for WOnder WOman but I guess I was wrong..Maybe they need a great female scribe to write these movies?

Hi <b>reut</b>, welcome to our screenrant comment zones.

I agree with you... so many times a strong female lead still gets broken down to expose the classic vulnerability and it can get annoying. I don't have anyone in mind, but it's just a feel I take away from that aspect of the genre.

Rodriguez and McGowan promise ruthless to the end and I'm going to hold them to it.

hi, first timer here - love your blogging!
regarding female leading roles - i would be interested in seeing a woman leading role who is masculine to the very end. it would seem that female roles are more prone to compromising and hence, they don't take them to the 'dark side enough leading to unbelievable characters, roles, scripts, etc.

Um, The first Laura Croft movie wasn't bad. The character Yu Shu-lien in "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" wasn't bad either. Their's always Ripley and hopefully Major Kusanagi.
Of course those movies are 5 or more years old. What was lost??
According to some, the qualities men liked in heroines, they were strong, smart, and successful in addition to being sexy have been gutted. Replaced by trashy, man hating, whiny, antisocial, bimbo stereotypes. It wouldn't hurt to pitch a good story to someone like Gale Ann Hurd either. Their's no denying the genre had a short run. Just not the right time for those kind of movies, I guess. ):

That sword-licking poster looks so odd to me. Not flattering at all.

This should be interesting to see; it's the kind of film that Rodriguez could do really well.

This does absolutely nothing for me...I thought the first film was really bad...Does anyone else agree with me when I say that the batch of female heroine movies that have been offered in the past are just real bad...

Barb Wire, Electra, Supergirl, Catwoman, Josie & the Pussycats, Sheena, Tank Girl, Brenda Starr..the highest grossing female comic book adapted was "Annie" for crying out loud!! THe genre does not translate well and call me a chauvanist if you want but I think these characters are good in supportive roles..not as leads carrying a film on their own.. (the gaunlet has been thrown down for the female readers)..supportive roles only..Even the Queen of these characters Wonder Woman can't get off the ground and it is most likely for the reason that they don't generate enough of a return for studios. Joss Whedon (this guy can write a strong female lead for a movie) turned in a great script with an interesting take on the character(Wonder Woman) and Silver pictures and WB turned it down..These movies are bad ideas..
