Yeah, I’m trying to be more picky with Civil War, but it seems that in this story it is more important to pick up the crossover issues than it was in Decimation or House of M. For example it was in one of the crossovers that something was shown that explained Cap’s behavior when he went ballistic on the Shield helicarrier. Just reading the main title it didn’t really make sense that he would react so strongly.

like you said, what i do is pick up the main story, and then shell out the dollars to the stuff i already get anyways, like new avengers and x-men.

and i find the movies and such bringing people back into comics…

i had a convo with my local comic shop guy and he said business has been picking up since the success of movies such as The X-Men series, and i’d have to agree as it’s gotten me back into comic books big time.

The thing is, there are some characters (especially in the DC universe) whose origins are pretty timeless and can survive decade after decade with very little change.

Vic, I hate to say it but Comic Books are a dying art-form and this is desperation to sell more titles, titles in which more popular characters appear in. To tell the truth, outside of Iron Man I haven’t ever cared to buy anything else. I haven’t read anything in the last year, not even IM. But hey, that was only three issues I missed! A lot of the material has been adapted to a more popular medium (the movie screen) and that is going to turn off casual fans and leave Marvel with only the life long fans. These same life-long fans who have had their characters retconned several times and are starting to look less and less like the characters they first enjoyed.
