They made us laugh, they made us cry, and then their stories ended. But now that a pair of memorable characters from Judd Apatow's comedy movie canon are being revisited in This is 40, we've gotten to thinking...
Nothing against Pete and Debbie - we're looking forward to more Knocked Up-esque raunchy humor as much as anyone - but there are plenty of other characters from classic comedies we've also wanted to see again. Times have changed, so how would they respond to this new era? Would their exploits still find an audience?
We'll leave the final verdict to readers, and simply offer our list of Top 10 Comedy Characters We'd Love To See Revisited. It's not all of them, but it's a start.
God, no! Why rehash old classics and inevitably ruin what we loved about these characters? Comedy sequels are almost always a bad idea, and I’d much rather just live with the magic of a film than try to capture that lightning in a bottle moment again 20 or so years later. I get that people love these characters but seeing them again will never be as good as you’ve imagined it all these years and I find it much more enjoyable just to go back and revisit the classics.
How about a ’10 Sci-fi Characters we’d like to see updated’.
How about District 9′s ‘Wikus Van De Merwe’ at the 3 year point, when the ship comes back with Christopher Johnson to fulfill his oath to change De Merwe human again, and maybe get a little payback for the experimentation on his people?
Or
A new adventure with Korben Dallas and Leeloo on future earth. Zorg need not apply…
or
Rick Deckard of Blade Runner has come out of retirement to find out who ‘retired’ his replicant lover Rachael, with a Rutger Hauer cameo…a late version ‘Roy’?
or
Westworld revisited….with Steve Buscemi as the ‘gunslinger’.
or maybe:
Lawnmower man…in today’s age of mobile devices, with billions ‘plugged in’…just image the chaos and control that would be in his digital hands.
If Rick Moranis came out of retirement, I’d prefer a sequel to Strange Brew before revisiting Dark Helmet (although, I’d love a Spaceballs sequel). But in today’s world, we need more stupid comedy like Bob and Doug McKenzie provide.
Id really like to see another Chevy Chase vacation movie. those were classics
What about Snake Plisken?

Kevin McCallister was revisited in “Home Alone: Taking back the House” aka “Home Alone 4.”
It wasn’t pretty…

How did The Big Lebowski not make this list!? I would love to see Wayne and Garth back in action though.
Amen to all listed! Some of these characters, however, are being considered for revisiting in the not-too-distant future (according to SR).
1.) Beetlejuice
2.) Bill & Ted
3.) Harry & Lloyd
I always wanted to see Wayne and Garth again, I honestly think those two Wayne’s World movies were the funniest Mike Myers has ever made.
Like someone else said, I’d also love to see if The Dude is still abiding.
Really? Captain Ron but not Fletch? It would be so good to see Chevy Chase actually being funny again…
I’d love to see Fletch…but I think the character needs rebooted. I don’t think it is possible for Chevy to be as funny as he used to be.
ooooh fletch! good call, that was my fav Chevy Chase film by far.

Also, I’d like to see Fletch rebooted.
Jesse and Chester from Dude Where’s My Car would be another duo of stupid characters I’d like to see revisited.
Watching ‘Home Alone’ now. So sad:
