Warning! This article contains spoilers for Cobra Kai season 4.

Cobra Kai has always been about building up stories that lead to dramatic and shocking plot twists, and season 3 represented the pinnacle of that formula. Season 4 offers more of those strengths from season 3, thanks in large part to the reintroduction of Terry Silver, perhaps the worst, and most sadistic antagonist of the entire Karate Kid series.

The newest season followed a relatively focused and straightforward story, but there were still plenty of opportunities for the writers to shock audiences. The biggest and best plot twists aren't relegated to one section of the season, but rather, they're sprinkled throughout, creating a gripping narrative in the process.

Amanda Builds A Bridge With Tory

Tory gets advice from Amanda in Cobra Kai

Tory Nichols has quickly become one of Cobra Kai's biggest and most love-to-hate villains, but there's a lot more to her character than an antagonistic personality. She's the product of a broken home, with a mother too sick to take care of the family, forcing her into the role of caregiver.

When Amanda LaRusso discovers this fact, it's the opportunity for the two to form a bond that will undoubtedly build into season 5. Amanda genuinely wants to help Tory escape her violent and unbalanced lifestyle, and find a way to succeed as a young woman entering her adult years.

Samantha Learns From Johnny

Samantha LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence started on the wrong foot, to say the very least. Throughout the show, she's harbored resentment towards Johnny for bringing Cobra Kai back to the Valley and causing so much chaos amongst her friends.

It's ironic to see that she's learning from Johnny in season 4, which is a direct contrast to how she was trained by her father. Ironically, the mixture of styles taught by both Daniel and Johnny ends up being her greatest strength, even if it doesn't propel her towards victory in the tournament.

Anthony Becomes A Bully

Anthony LaRusso's scant presence is one of the things that never made sense about Cobra Kai, but season 4 finally establishes him as a major player. It's ironic then, that Anthony would be portrayed as a bully who harasses a young student named Kenny, inadvertently pushing him into the warm embrace of Cobra Kai.

This dynamic will continue in season 5 after Anthony helped forge Kenny into a vengeful Cobra Kai student, thirsty for payback. It also allowed Daniel to finally become a responsible parent and lay down the law when it comes to Anthony's behavior, whose needed it since season 1.

Samantha Goes On The Offensive

Samantha mocks Tory in Cobra Kai

In season 3, Samantha LaRusso was paralyzed with trauma over her fight with Tory during the infamous high school brawl. The fear is so palpable that Samantha got panic attacks at several points throughout the season, culminating in a showdown between the two in the final episode.

Now, Samantha has turned the tables. It's Tory who was on the ropes, primarily due to her fragile personal life, and Samantha was there to take advantage of it. In the process of taking her power back, Samantha has become the very thing she despised, which will have ramifications moving forward.

Terry Silver Attacks Johnny Lawrence

Johnny fights Terry in Cobra Kai

Terry Silver and Johnny Lawrence never met before the events of season 4, but seeing them butt heads was an interesting development. It all started when Silver lured Lawrence to the site of the old Cobra Kai dojo, just as he lured Daniel to be beaten to a pulp in The Karate Kid III.

Johnny faced Silver one-on-one, but he was no match for the Cobra Kai co-founder. This battle was a shocking one, particularly because it showed John Kreese feeling remorseful. It was a pivotal moment in the show that hopefully will make Kreese see the error of his ways, in future episodes.

Miguel Abandons The Tournament

Miguel Diaz was, is, and always will be Johnny Lawrence's star pupil, and their relationship goes far beyond Sensei and student. The trials and tribulations they went through solidified them as one of the best friendships of Cobra Kai season 3, though they did hit a rough patch in season 4. It was remarkable then, that Miguel would abandon the All Valley Karate Tournament, right in the middle of a bout.

It all started when Miguel attempted to take down Eli Moskowitz with a tornado kick, only to pull a muscle in his back, sending him to the mat. With a limited amount of time to return before he was disqualified, Miguel gave up and decided to search for his biological father, who is supposedly in Mexico City.

Eli Wins The Men's Division Title

Eli wins the tournament in Cobra Kai

Eli Moskowitz went through the wringer in season 4, which was not surprising, given his sudden turn at the end of the previous season. Fans should remember that he joined Miyagi-Do during Cobra Kai season 3, which meant he had some ground to recover. He had a lot of trusts to regain among his fellow Miyagi-Do students, yet he persevered, helping to build a bridge between the two schools.

After he was attacked by the Cobra Kais and had his signature mohawk shaved off, "Hawk" became regular old Eli again, with shattered confidence. Demetri was the one who convinced him to pick himself up and participate in the tournament, where he squared off against Robby Keene and won the Men's Division title.

Terry Silver Bribes The All Valley Referee

During the climactic fight between Tory and Samantha in the final episode, the referee appears to go soft on Tory after two violations. It's assumed that he simply didn't notice. After Tory wins the tournament, it becomes clear that Terry Silver had a hand in it all.

Tory stumbles upon Silver paying the referee for looking the other way, which completely robbed her of a legitimate victory. This kind of behavior was not surprising coming from Terry, but it's Tory who will have to deal with the fallout of an empty victory.

Robby Keene Ceases Hostilities

Johnny hugs Robby in Cobra Kai

Robby Keene made it clear that he held allegiance to no one, including his Cobra Kai teachers. Yet, when he lost the fight to Eli, he came to understand that he'd been going down the wrong path. This was further exacerbated when he saw his protegee Kenny beat Anthony LaRusso in a locker room, which ran counter to his principles.

Confused, scared, and with nowhere to go, Robby followed Johnny to the old Cobra Kai dojo and broke down. It was a pivotal moment for the series which finally brought Robby back to the light. How his relationship with Johnny will progress in the next season, however, remains to be seen.

Terry Silver Betrays John Kreese

Terry Silver betrays John Kreese in Cobra Kai

No other season 4 story twist was as crazy as the one that took place in the final moments of the last episode. During a celebration over winning the All Valley Karate Tournament, Terry Silver confronted John Kreese about how his relationship with Johnny had made him weak, and unfit to lead Cobra Kai.

In a stunning act of betrayal, the police came to Silver's home to arrest Kreese, citing aggravated assault and attempted murder charges. Silver struck a deal with a desperate Stingray to take a brutal beating, in exchange for enrollment in Cobra Kai, provided he accused Kreese of being the assailant. Kreese's fate is one of the many burning questions Cobra Kai fans have after watching finishing season 4.
