The first images of Cobra Commander from the upcoming G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra have leaked out onto to the Net, and trust me when I tell you: you’ve never seen Cobra Commander look like this before!
So has director Stephen Sommers has gotten at least Cobra Commander right in his adaptation of G.I. Joe? Have a look for yourself!

Told you you’ve never seen the big snake looking quite like this! Apparently this action figure is a perfect replica of what we can expect to see on the big screen! (Ok, so obviously I’m kidding).
While we only have this action figure to judge by, the film’s take on Cobra Commander seems to suggest that he’s the victim of some horrible chemical accident, who can only sustain himself by wearing a life-support suit. (At least that’s my best guesstimate.)
Rumors have been swirling for some time that one focus of G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra will be the character played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The character has been described as an ex-Joe with a very, very, dark side to him.
So will Gordon-Levitt end up looking like this toy Cobra Commander by the time the end credits roll on Rise of Cobra? As my mother would say, “The proof is in the plastic.” (Okay, so my mother never said that, but why make the action figure if the character doesn’t exist in the film?)
Wow, it seems that comic book filmmakers can’t keep anything under wraps these days. Even if they don’t let info leak from the set, once the marketing machine revs up, and the toys start rolling off the assembly line, any secrets doesn’t stay secret very long. Just look at all the surprises from Transformers 2 that have recently been spoiled because of their toy counterparts…
We’ll all know the secret of Cobra Commander for sure once G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra hits theaters on August 7, 2009. For now, take another look at the pics and let us know what you think.

I think the cartoon versions of the Cobra looked way better. I am getting mixed feelings about this film…
Reminds me of cybernetic Jason Vorhees in ‘Jason X’.
Don’t hate the design, but could improved.
I agree with High Kalibur, I attach Cobra to the cartoon character. But while this new design is a bit different than I anticipated, I’m sure the story will back it up. Definitely a must see for me!

Why oh why cant movie people leave well enough alone? I understand wanting to be creative and put their own spin on things but if your not improving it don’t even try. alot of us waited long and hard for a GI Joe movie and now we have to sit and stomach this Jason X\ Spiderman loser? The movie creator reject the old Cobra hood cuz they thought it looked too much like the KKK, well news flash he’s the VILLAIN! and as a black guy i could careless if he were Hitler’s second cousin or not I still love him as I character I grew up with! So stop being PC and creative and just keep it the way that worked for 40 years. Thanks, I’m now getting off my soapbox.
You can tell this was going to be dumb from the very first concept images of it of the costume design alone.
Or the fact that the guy from Step Up is playing Duke. I hope to God he doesn’t ruin Public Enemies for me. I had a geek-gasm when I heard Depp and Bale were both in it.
Eh, I can care less about Depp, and I’m not one of the ones that Think Christian Bale is the messiah (we all know Obama is the Messiah), so I’m not too excited for Public Enemies based on that, I’ll see if it looks interesting from the trailers and such… But from the images from this movie and from the super bowl spot, I think it looks pretty dumb… But who knows, it might be so campy and corny that it’s entertaining.

well i guess they gotta put sum Emotion into their characters , if i recall the same thing happen with Optimus,where as in the transformers comics he had no Mouth & in the film the had Retractible Facial armor that revaled A mouth.
it looks like thats what doing with this.
Personally i would love the Hooded commander Rather that the Crome plate Face one.

that character design is so jacked they should have done it like the cartoon but in black. Sort of what everybody else does with comic book characters dress them in black instead of their original colors.

the new design for cobra commander is ass. im very disappointed bc u cant change cobra commander. cobra commander is cobra commander! BUT they only made it lik dis bc they found the old look, the mask and shit kinda lik kkk. look it on on wiki
movie is questionable. Cobra commander looking like the return of Jason X. Rumor Duke and C. Commander prior friends. Whats going on. Transformers 2 sucked not this too. Since when do transformers cuss and jive.
He looks horrid. I mean look it’s one thing if they didn’t want the hood, they had the chrome face plate to build from. He’s one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise and they’ve really dropped the ball.
I mean they could have tweaked the chrome face plate design and maybe made him dressed in black instead of blue. However now it just looks silly.
