‘Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2′ Trailer Returns With An Island of Giant Food

Published 2 years ago by

In the first Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, overeager mad scientist Flint Lockwood’s machine designed to end world hunger instead visited the town of Swallow Falls with a plague of gigantic, mutant food. In its upcoming sequel, Flint returns to his island home to track down his still-operational machine – only to find that it has created an entire ecosystem of food-animal hybrids.

Let the puns commence.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 will be directed by Cody Cameron (Open Season 3) and Kris Pearn (Surf’s Up). The movie will feature the voice talents of Bill Hader (Men in Black 3), Anna Faris (The Dictator), James Caan (That’s My Boy),  Neil Patrick Harris (The Smurfs), and Terry Crews (The Expendables 2), among others.

The original Cloudy… was a surprisingly, and delightfully, bizarre animated film devoted wholeheartedly to the absurdity of its premise. From the looks of this trailer, it seems like its sequel will similarly pursue a borderline-surreal concept all the way to the edge of comedy ostensibly aimed at kids.

It’s only when one looks under the hood that any worries about Cloudy 2 commence. Much of the original film’s quirky aesthetic can be attributed to Clone High creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller (both recently of 21 Jump Street). With their complete absence from the sequel, one has to wonder whether it will be able to capture the manic energy and wry comic timing of its predecessor.

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 will drop into theaters in September of 2013.

  1. *sigh*

  2. I thought the leak joke was funny lol and i love the first one, it was completely overlooked. Without lord and miller its off my radar, ill wait for their lego film

  3. really enjoyed he first film so heres hoping this is good too

  4. Never seen the first one, but ive wanted to, and this one looks strangely funny.

  5. I thought the first one was great and this looks just as good it’s gonna be fun

  6. Hot dog, this is gonna be a good movie!

  7. I was surprised by how good the first one was, this one seems to be attempting to imitate/capture some of what that first one so great, but I shall remain cautiously optimistic.

  8. No Mr. T voice almost lost me. But I will watch it since the first one is so good.

  9. Really loved the first one. Pretty excited to see this one as well. Although I wish Phil Lord and Chris Miller were returning. And Andy Samberg.

    • According to Wikipedia Andy Samberg will be in this movie.

  10. No, just please no. Holly’s gotta stop turning everthing into a franchisd and then ruining it by dragging it out. *pulls out a revolver and a noose trying to decide which way to go*

  11. i think they should change the movie title.
it’s not about the ‘cloudy with a chance of meatball’ anymore right?.

  12. We had to wait 12 years to get a sequel to the awesome Monsters inc but hey churn out a sequel to Cloudy with a side of meatballs right away.

    Something very wrong with that.

    • There’s nothing wrong with that. But there is something wrong with Pixar rolling out a sequel to “Cars” and not “Monsters Inc” and “The Incredibles”.

      • The incredibles may never get a sequal atleast not with bird he is making a name for himself in life action

  13. Looks good. But I think using too many food puns may be a missed steak.

  14. I read the book “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” when I was a kid (great children’s story I might add).

I’m 100% certain there was another book called “Pickles to Pittsburgh” which was a sequel to CWACOM, I’m surprised they didn’t use that.

Then again, the movie does not follow the same story as the book. Which is fine

  15. I watched this movie after getting my wisdom teeth out. I couldn’t eat any of the food that was raining out of the sky at that moment cuz of the surgery. Thats prbly why I hated the movie hahaha

  16. Another stupid animated worthless movie that’s made for immature adults. Hope it fails.

    • Wow did you not read the praise given to the first one in this article? It was a great movie. It’s not some Planet 51 timewaste. There’s a freakin leak in the boat!
