Like other recent iPhone models, the iPhone 14 doesn't have a physical Home button, meaning closing apps works slightly differently than on older iPhones. With the Home button, users could just press to go back to the Home screen, while double-tapping brought up multitasking screen, from where users could force close apps. However, that is no longer possible on newer iPhones. Still, closing an app is fairly easy on the iPhone 14, with many users even arguing that the process is actually more intuitive than the old method.

On all four iPhone 14 devices, users can use gesture navigation to get back to the Home screen from any app. The same feature is also used to access the App Switcher, from where users can close any app running in the background. To get out of an app and go back to the Home screen, swipe up from the bottom edge of the device. Doing so will close the app from the foreground and take the user back to the Home screen, enabling them to use other apps.

Clear Apps On The iPhone 14

Swipe up to clear apps on iPhone 14

The above method enables users to get back to the Home screen from any app, but the 'closed' app may still continue to run in the background unless it is closed manually. To force close such apps, swipe up from the bottom from any screen and pause in the middle of the swipe gesture. This will bring up the App Switcher, which will show previews for all the open apps on the device. On the App Switcher screen, swipe left or right to navigate to the app that needs to be closed and then simply swipe up on that app preview. This will close the app for good and remove it from memory.

Do note that Apple says "You should close an app only if it’s unresponsive," meaning it is generally not necessary to close apps manually on iPhones. Users might also want to close open apps if they feel their iPhone is sluggish. Doing this will increase the available memory and speed up the iPhone.

While this method works well for one or two apps, it can be tedious to repeat the process for multiple apps. iPhones do not offer a 'Clear All' button on the App Switcher screen unlike on Android devices, meaning there's no way to clear all open apps at once. However, users can close multiple apps simultaneously on iPhones by using multiple fingers to swipe up on multiple app previews at once. Two or three fingers work best when trying to close two or three apps together. The methods described above work on the iPhone X and later, including all iPhone 14 models.

How To Close Tabs On iPhone 14

Closing Safari tabs on iPhone 14

Safari is the default web browser on iPhone, and although it might not seem obvious, there is an easy way to close all open browser tabs. To do this, open Safari and tap the double square icon at the bottom to open the tab switcher. Tap the 'x' on an individual tab to close it. To close all tabs at once, long press on 'Done' and select 'Close All Tabs.' Alternatively, long-press on the double square icon in Safari and select either 'Close This Tab' or 'Close All Tabs.'

If using Google Chrome as the default browser on iPhone, open the browser and tap on the square icon to view the switch tabs interface. Tap on the 'x' on an individual tab to close it. To close all open tabs in Chrome, tap on the square icon and then select 'Close All' in the bottom left. And that's pretty much it. Whether you use Safari or Chrome on your iPhone 14, it's easy to close individual or all tabs with a single press.
