Those gamers who are eagerly awaiting the release of Gears of War 4, the fourth proper installment in the franchise, are no doubt well aware by now of the title’s recent acquisition by Microsoft developer The Coalition. Following the release of the last game in the series from 2013, namely Gears of War: Judgement, which was formerly co-developed by People Can Fly and franchise mainstay Epic Games, the latest entry in the main series will directly follow the events of the original trilogy, with the new Vancouver-based studio taking the lead from here on out.

Though series creator Cliff Bleszinski will have no direct say on how the new game will take form, though the man behind Delta Squad did have certain things to say about The Coalition and their new take on his beloved franchise.

Taking to his official Twitter account a couple of days ago, Bleszinski stated that after talking to an unnamed writer for the new XBox One title, he claims that fans of the series will be “very pleased” with the original story soon to become a part of the Gears of War canon. Furthermore, Bleszinski stated that he is standing behind The Coalition one hundred percent, and that while he has not been asked for any input thus far (as he is yielding control of the series over to producer Rod Fergusson), he is willing to lend his support if asked to do so. See the original Twitter exchange below:

It’s heartening to see the man who brought such iconic video game characters such as Marcus Fenix, Dominic Santiago, and Augustus “Cole Train” Cole continue to give up creative control of a franchise as monumental as Gears of War over to new hands. And if his professed enthusiasm for the new title is anything to go on, then the next chapter in the franchise proper should give even the likes of the original trilogy a run for its money.

As players continue to await a return to the planet Seras to mount yet another grand war against the Locust Horde, they can take comfort in the fact that Bleszinksi trusts the team at The Coalition to move the franchise forward. Until then, perhaps gamers can revisit the original game from 2006 in the form of the recently released Ultimate Edition.

Gears of War 4 will launch sometime during fall 2016 on Xbox One.
