Prepare for the mightiest battle ever between mere mortals and deities... again, as Warner Bros. has selected a release date for its 3D sequel, Wrath of the Titans.

The Clash of the Titans sequel will hit theaters on March 30th, 2012 - this time under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman, whose sci-fi invasion pic Battle: Los Angeles will hit the big screen next spring (and, hopefully, be everything that Skyline was not).

Zeus himself, Liam Neeson, confirmed that he will return for Wrath of the Titans, which will once again feature Sam Worthington as his (human) offpsring, Perseus; Gemma Aerton as the lovely Io; and Ralph Fiennes as the devious Lord of the Underworld, Hades. There have previously been rumblings that James Franco and Javier Bardem could costar as the Phoenician king Agenor and Ares, God of War, respectively, but their involvement with the project is far from being a sure thing.

Wrath of the Titans scriber David Leslie Johnson is known for working on big-budget projects that are heavy on the action and set pieces, while his co-writer, Dan Mazeau, has more experience crafting "dark character pieces." Whether these complimentary writing talents will be able to deliver a more cohesive and intelligent Clash of the Titans sequel remains to be seen for now.

One thing moviegoers can count on is that Clash of the Titans 2 will feature significantly better 3D visuals than its predecessor, which was originally shot as a 2D pic before being given a now infamously rushed and very sloppy post-production conversion job. The Titans sequel, by comparison, is expected to actually be shot using 3D camera rigs and technology.

The Clash of the Titans remake grossed close to half a billion dollars in theaters - to paraphrase Mark Hamill, 'Try telling Hollywood they shouldn't make a sequel to a film with that kind of box office success.' But do the moviegoing masses really want to see Wrath of the Titans?
