Whats the deal with all the negativity towards the GI JOe film? This movie has gotten a lot of grief and yet the numbers show a very different story.

GI Joe STATS:

IN RELEASE(at Theatres): 91 days / 13 Weeks
PRODUCTION BUDGET: $175 MILLION (est.)
DOMESTIC/INTERNATIONAL GROSS: 150/151 Million
TOTAL GROSS: $301 Million

I got news for those who hate on this film, these are very good numbers for a film. It may not have had as big a weekly numbers the first few weeks as other major Summer releases but it had staying power. 13 weeks (almost 3 months) is not a short period in the worl of movies. Sure there are longer releases like DARK KNIGHT or IRON MAN but those are also major hits and so comparing GI JOe to these and having GI JOe come in under these is by no means an insult.

You may not like GI Joe but enough people did to not only ensure it made money but that it made enough to guarantee a sequel and I bet we will see that sequel before the end of 2012 (assuming we haven’t seen armageddon by then).

Have to finally agree with you there. That is the thing that makes this trailer work in my opinion is how perfectly cut the footage is to the music.

Whoever cut that trailer did an incredible job.

Let us pray that the trailer is only that and not a summary of the only good bits (I hate it when that happens in a film).

SOundtrack sounds pretty intense too!

sure marketing might, and I say might differentiate both properties but lets look at it this way.
God of War, as per what creator David Jaffe stated, is if you take Greek Mythology and put in a heavy influx of Heavy Metal comics.
Adult, Hardcore, Gory, and Sex.
Now, I assume you and everyone here has played the game. You know how the game looks aesthetically from the costume designs to even the levels.
I bet you that Louis Leterrier’s major influence is God of War, even if he says no, you know it is!
When I watch this trailer all that comes into mind is God of War. So really, what is the point?
I guess to make money but thats for the proudcer’s sake to find a cash cow. Me, I see no point. UNLESS, they get Mel GIbson to direct God of War. NOW that would be something!

Holy Crap! An amazing piece! ( BTW Trans Siberians’s LD really blows, he personally ruined the entire show for me last year. He blew his all wad in the first song and kept repeating the same looks over and over! AAAARRRGGGHHH!)And remember, there are two versions touring.

SK-47 says: “There is NO point now for having a God of War film because if made, those who do not know about the game will automatically associate that as a “copy” of this film.”

A movie about Ares, the Greek god of war might be seen as going hand in hand with this one About Perseus.

I guess it’s a race if someone with enough clout is in each camp. I would think marketing would clear up any confusion about the issues. Surely all over the web and very likely the entertainment TV news programs as well.

I could see a certain level of cross pollination if a movie about the game gets made.
