A new international trailer for Clash of the Titans has debuted on IGN, and we have it to share with you today.

This late in the game (the film premieres in about eight weeks) the new trailer actually attempts to let us in on what the actual story is about (beyond all the rock music and crazy fights with CGI mythological monsters).

If you didn’t know anything else about the film, this trailer would tell you that Sam Worthington (Avatar) plays a character who is part man, part god, and is humanity’s only hope for salvation when the gods of Olympus decide they’ve had enough with mankind and all our B.S. You’d also probably gather that Liam Neeson plays Zeus, Ralph Fiennes is Hades, and a pretty girl who looks somewhat familiar (Gemma Arterton from Quantum of Solace) is playing a princess/love interest type.

Check out the new Trailer for Clash of the Titans:

I’m a bit worried, and I’ll tell you why: other than bit of backdrop we get to set up the story, there’s not really anything new that I’m seeing in this trailer (at least in terms of the action sequences). It makes me believe that Clash of the Titans is one of those movies that has already blown its load too early, by showing off too much.

Anyway, the film is directed by Louis Leterrier (Incredible Hulk) and the studio is currently debating converting it into 3D. Like that will make all the difference in the world… (Although, that Krakken might be pretty awesome in 3D.)

Let us know what you thought of the trailer.

  1. Interesting, an effects driven remake of an effects driven movie.
Overall it looks cool, though I think the appeal of the original was a bit more of seeing Ray Harryhausen at his finest with some awesome effects.
Hopefully they this new one does an appropriate job of creating a decent adaptation of the original, I'm surprised they showed the Kraken off though. Personally it would have gotten me a lot more interested in going to the theater to watch this to see what the modern look of the Kraken is.

  2. It seems irrelevant but that hairstyle is extremely boring and not Greek enough. Most depictions of Greek characters almost always had destinct hair styles, most of the time the hair is usually long. I dont mind the short hair but it looks boring and nothing “signature” about it. The way Sam looks in this movie is quite forgetable they should have done more with his look. At least now he can speak with his normal accent.

  3. I still haven't been really excited by anything I have seen for this and the idea of it being in 3D really turns me off. Not as much as the scene of Worthington whipping the sword into his sheath… what is with that?

It's almost as bad as Robery Downey spinning those batons in Sherlock Holmes to hit a guy. Any movie where the director thinks that looks cool usually disappoints me.

  4. This just looks like the newest Transformers-esque franchise. A completely effects-driven movie with little intelligence to be found. Even Sam Worthington isn't enough to get me to see this movie.

  5. I really like that Kraken. :) And it makes me laugh when every scene with Liam Neeson has him bathed in a soft light… like Barbra Walters. :-P

  6. I'm just going to see it to see how the remake of the fight between Perseus and the Kraken plays out

  7. Holy shiite KRAKEN.

  8. I was watching the original with Harry Hamlin tonight… yeah, it can definitely use a remake/update.

  9. If this is 3D I might give it a miss, it wasnt intended to be a 3D movie therefore it shouldnt be.
I might try to see it in two dimensions. I do like Gemma Arterton, she really nice in person too. As for Sam Worthington, he still hasnt done anything that deserves this bizarre leading man status that he has gotten, he is a really bland actor.

  10. All I can hear is RELEASE THE HOUNDS! :D This is going to be a great popcorn movie. Something to see during discount ticket time.

I just hope the “rock” music is not in the movie.

  11. The Kraken in 3D FTW.

  12. I still think the Krakken looks like Clover's Mum.

  13. To the Samuel Goldwyn theatre at the crack of dawn, where Anne Hathaway and Academy president Tom Sherak read out this year's Oscar nominations . http://www.gucciwell.com Our hosts roll up with minimum fanfare and then retreat in haste,

  14. STILL LOOKS GREAT, AND IT WILL BE GREAT, BECAUSE IT GREAT AND SUPER GREAT!!!!!

  15. 3D will be meh for this. keep it pure 2D. kraken > anything cloverfield

  16. you mean the Kraken right

  17. It still looks like a good popcorn flick to me. I agree that they shouldn't show too much and hopefully they are leaving the best for the theater.

And like ulik, I think a nearly bald Greek hero looks strange. In Jason and the Argonauts, the lead actor had short hair but no where near bald. But I can live with it if the film is as good as I'm hoping it will be.

  18. I am so frikken excited to see this movie-get a thrill when Liam says “RELEASE THE KRAKEN!”

  19. I don't like how Zeus doesn't have the flowing white hair and white beard…..other than that looks good.

  20. i think this looks good. i hardly believe they've blown off their load just yet. i think much is to come:) letterier is good, look at the incredible hulk! im sure this will turn out to be more than just a little action flick. and for those who wont see this or think its bad that its all effects driven.. i mean cmon? look at the settings, story, everything! u cant NOT make this effect driven, unless u want it to be bad.

i dont mind this being in 3D.. well my cinema only got 2D so.. but hey, i dont see the downside in 3D:)

  21. RLMAO!!! Good call Vic. That good Ole' 70's style album cover and soap opera camera work with Zeus! If he had ALL white hair and a white beard it probably would have worked better making him look more ancient and godly.

  22. I'm actually fascinated by the idea that they MAY cover the concept of “gods needing worship to survive”.

This MIGHT end up being more than a popcorn flick, if done right.

Other than that, it LOOKS like a fun popcorn flick! Hehehehehe

I can live without the 3-chord rock music as background, however.. I hope they get real music for the film.

  23. exactly. anyone who wants to bash this for being another remake of a perfectly fine movie or classic is a nitwit. im greek and i love greek mythology but the original is barely watchable. finally someone made this. all you guys trying to already make a film review based off of a trailer is ridiculous. wait for it to come out, see it, then tell us what you think. its a different direction than the usual greek film which is nice in a way. but it still looks like they have done certain things extremely well.

  24. Well I just don't like his hair cut, I doubt they had hair clippers in those time but in the other hand the film looks good.

  25. @Dingo, Yeah I agree, it's not really a big deal but his hair keeps distracting me. There is absolutely nothing “Greek” style about his hair. If you look at all of Greek art, all of them have a sort of style that varies but it all has “look”. They did have razor blades back them but they should have let him have long semi-curly hair or something. He looks Russian or something with that hair. The movie does look good though. Liam Neeson never disappoints.

  27. :/ Not thrilled with the hairstyle. I mean that's not the biggest issue in the film by far, but still, that short cut doesn't really fit the time period and it makes the character look pretty damn boring. The supporting character guys in the trailer looked far more interesting than this one.
