[UPDATE: Bottom of the post for a look at the completed Dawn Treader!]

The guys over at Cine Fools managed to snag some exclusive shots of the new Dawn Treader ship which will be the focal point in the next installment of The Chronicles of Narnia.

The photos were taken by the father of one of the bloggers at the Cleveland Point, Queensland, Australia site where the Dawn Treader is being constructed. The ship is still in its early phases, but we thought you Narnia fans would like to have a looksee anyway.

For those who don’t know: Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the fifth book (chronologically speaking) in C.S. Lewis’ Narnia series. It takes place about three years after the events of Prince Caspian (the fourth book) when Edmund, Lucy and their cousin, Eustace, are once again pulled into Narnia, this time landing aboard Caspian’s sea vessel, the titular Dawn Treader. Caspian, now king of Narnia, is honoring his oath to find the seven lost lords of Narnia at the edge of the world, so Edmund, Lucy and Eustace tag along for the voyage.

As far as the Narnia books go, Dawn Treader is by no means the most popular – but the plot does leave plenty of room for an entertaining adventure fantasy. That is, if 20th Century Fox can do the movie proper, now that the studio has taken over the Narnia series from Disney. We’ll see.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader is due in theaters on December 10, 2010.

  1. Somehow I doubt that Fox can do the source material better justice than Disney. That is NOT a good sign for this film, although I enjoyed both of the films thus far.

  2. So,so,so so cool!! ah,can’t wait!! :D

  3. These movies are actually pretty cool, can’t wait for this one :D

  4. i LOVE the first two but im having a hard time imagining this one being done to the same scale because in the book (*SPOILERS*) I dont recall there being any wars really…its more like exploring weird islands.

  5. going down to cleveland point to see the ship very soon, can’t wait

  6. I don’t think Disney or Fox made/is making any of these films. They just provide the funding. But of course the people providing the funding will have a say in the movie’s production, but they don’t actually make the movie per-se…

  7. The book doesn’t have much action in it, so it wont be able to grasp the audience that will be expecting it.

  8. Not much action, but

Eustace does get turned into a dragon, so they’ll have something to put in the trailer.

Dawn Treader is really the most allegory-heavy book in the series, and it’s full of fantastic character moments (particularly the ending), so I hope it comes off well. I hope it’s more successful than Prince Caspian, too, so that The Silver Chair (ie the best book) is made.

    • I concur!

  9. Wait a minute! Isn’t 3 years of our time like 3 thousand Narnia years? How is Caspian still around?

  10. That looks like a kiddy merry go round lmao :D

  11. Actually Dawn Treader is considered one of the most popular ones…

  12. i’m sure that they will throw in extra action that wasn’t in the book into the movie..thats what they do

  13. I thought they werent making sequels to the Narnia movies anymore. I thought that the past two were pretty boring and that they were only tolerable by children. Really dont care about this, sad because the books were really good when I was growing up

  14. Will Ben Barnes still play Caspian?

  15. @ WoolyCaveman

Not when I was a kid.

‘Wardrobe,’ ‘Magician’s Nephew,’ and ‘Last Battle’ were the ones the librarian read to us.

  16. It has swirlies on it. :D

Looks cool. I hope they don’t dumb it down like they did with the lame-o mess that was “Prince Caspian”. The transition from book to script will be interesting to see if they do it right… as was said, there isn’t too much heavy action in the book.
If they make the islands all unique and visually awesome and interesting, they shouldn’t have too much to worry about. Maybe?
I’m looking forward to seeing it, what with the new crew at the helm, as it were.

  17. love the narina movie’s can’t wait!!!! keep up the good work!!! over all i think the secound one should have been a bit better….but still okay….

  18. Talking about the stock exchange is always interesting and enlightening. I’ll wait for the next posting. Thank you.

  19. I’m sorry to say that the very look of the ship puts me off wanting to see this film. It looks tacky and over the top and very disney. It’s not at all like it was illustrated in the book or portrayed in the bbc production. The bbc may have had a mechanical lion and people in animal costumes but their ship WAS the Dawn Treader.
