We knew this day was coming, but finally Christopher Nolan has confirmed his role as director of Batman 3. As the script goes through the final phases and rumors continue to heat up, this is the first bit of surefire news we’ve heard in months.
The tight-lipped Nolan hasn’t shared much about the sequel to The Dark Knight. He did recently acknowledge the state of the screenplay – Jonah Nolan’s first draft is complete and Chris Nolan is now making his edits.
As we wait for Warner Bros. to make an official statement regarding Batman 3, this is the closest to real news regarding the film we’ve gotten in awhile. If the script is truly in the final stages of its development, we can expect to see major headlines popping up in the coming months.
Christopher Nolan responded to questions from Empire Online about his involvement in the upcoming Batman 3.
“It’s becoming inevitable, I’ll put it that way. I feel myself falling into it, I guess. And getting it all figured out and I’m pretty excited about what we’re doing so… If I haven’t announced it, I think that people probably all know at this point that I’m doing it.”
If you want a more concise and direct answer from Nolan, Empire did ask specifically if it’s safe to assume he will direct Batman 3. He answered with a swift, “I think you can at this point, yes.”

At a recent Inception press conference in Rome, Nolan was asked about the status of Batman 3. Typically, he skirts around the answer, but Nolan has apparently been drinking too much truth serum as of late, because he shared the status of Jonah Nolan’s script.
“I don’t like to talk too much about things until I’m further along with them. But I’m working on the script right now. My brother Jonah has done a draft for the script and now I’m writing on it. We have set a release date and as far as the film being officially greenlit, they haven’t told us they don’t want to do it. So I’m hopeful.”
While today’s news is not jaw-dropping, or even surprising, it brings a much-needed sigh of relief to anxious fans. Still, plenty of questions remain, though:
- Which villains will battle Batman?
- Which actors will portray the new villains?
- What will Batman 3 be about?
- Will it be in 3D, IMAX, or even 3D IMAX?
- Will Wayne Manor and the Batcave be rebuilt as promised at the end of Batman Begins?
- What will the movie be called? (my vote goes to Shadow of the Bat).
Are there any other ideas or questions you want answered in the upcoming months? Do you think Nolan can make a quality Batman sequel while simultaneously overseeing development of the next Superman movie?

Warner Bros. has been playing in the dark, waiting for the right time to pounce of the eager public. Now that Nolan and Batman 3 are back int he headlines, it seems like a good time to start delivering news. The answers are out there, for sure, but nobody is ready to open up quite yet. We’ll have to wait and see.

Ok gotta get this off my chest. I loved Batman TAS it was a fantastic cartoon one of the top two of all time. That said it is not the end all be all of Batman it get way to much praise. At the end of the day it’s still a very very kid friendly cartoon with almost zero adult themes. It had some good stories and amazing voice acting but at the end of the day it was for kids. Batman the animated series was the second best animated Batman apperance first being the Justice League show which was at least a little more adult and better animation. If we include live action TAS falls even further behind. It was an enjoyable cartoon one of the best but it’s still a cartoon and any batman comic reader knows the comics are far more adult.
I know TDK was just so awful because despite an amazing story, fantastic acting , adult themes and a truly dark gritty batman despite those thing ls it was an awfult film because it didn’t feature the clock king and joker had face paint. Sarcasm by the way.
@ Daniel f
Between Batman: TAS & Justice League animated series, Batman: TAS seemed more of a adult animated series to me for its dark tone. I read people liked it more than the New Batman Adventures which i also liked just as much but they probly didn’t like it as much as the WB picked up the show and have it excist within the same universe as Superman: TAS which meant pretty much all of the character’s needed a new design.Batman: TAS had pretty much everything i thought, great voice cast, supporting characters like Lucious Fox Leslie Thompkins, Crime Alley being seen where Bruce lost his parents. The Batman was ok, but i find it very very kiddy friendly, Batman: The Brave & The Bold even more so. One of the Problems i have with Nolan’s films is limit of villains that would be real enough to be in his kind of movies, popular or not, well known or not. I bet Bruce Timm & Co could do wonders makin live action films. I even got a book of Batman: TAS with a picture of Kevin Conroy when he was younger voicing Batman and thought to myself, if dyed his hair black, He’d make a great Batman back then.
Two very relevant villains that I think could be in this movie are Lonnie Machin A.K.A. Anarky , a teenage prodigy who creates improvised gadgets in order to attempt to subvert government and Floyd Lawton A.K.A Deadshot , who is a suicidal assassin who wears a colorful costume in the hopes that someone will shoot him. He is considered the second greatest assassin in the DC Universe, the first being Deathstroke.
Also if they want Depp in the movie they could bring in The Mad Hatter for a role. He’s actually in the original Batman cartoon series. He’s basically a nutjob who dresses like The Mad Hatter and commits crimes.
Mr Zsasz would also rule to have in the franchise. He’s probably the scariest character of them all. Does stuff like the joker but without the make-up.
Bane.
That is all.
well if want who I want in Batman 3 I want a Super Smart but Devious and Handsome yet Cunning Criminal Genius with OCD and has knack for Computer hacking and Cyberterrorism a bit like Thomas Gabriel on Die Hard 4 but with the over the phone truth telling skills of The Caller from Phonebooth and also kills people with Bombs with TV screens if both if Batman can’t remember the second part of The Riddle, you Get that I am refering to The Riddler right and my otner chioces are The Black Mask or Hush or Catwoman or Talia Al Ghoul and Deadshot or Bane. as I know if Chris Nolan could maybe use this for The Plot it would be Breathtakingly Awesome with Mind blowing Special effects and a Fantastic use of CGI as it would make one hell of a Good Movie, However have fun reading this comment cause if you like and want more just message me back.
