A Christmas Story is officially getting a sequel with Peter Billingsley set to reprise his role as Ralphie. A Christmas Story released in 1983 and, over the years, has grown to be considered one of the best Christmas movies of all time. Today, it is has attained the status of a true holiday classic and holds a special place in many families' traditions each holiday season. The quirky Christmas comedy set in the 1940s follows 9-year-old Ralphie, who dreams of getting a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas, but is continually discouraged by all the adults in his life who warn him that he'll shoot his eye out.

As reported by ComicBookWarner Bros. is currently developing a sequel to A Christmas Story, which will see the return of Billingsley as Ralphie. The film, to be titled A Christmas Story Christmas, will take place 30 years after the events of the original film. It will follow Ralphie, now an adult, taking his children to his old family home to reminisce over his childhood holiday experiences and to come to terms with the loss of his father. A Christmas Story Christmas will be directed by Clay Kaytis, an animator and director whose work includes Angry Birds Movie and The Christmas Chronicles.

A release date has not yet been set for A Christmas Story Christmas, but filming is set to begin next month in Hungary. The film certainly has potential with Billingsley returning for the titular role, as well as serving as producer on set. Meanwhile, anticipation will be high as it will be the first official sequel nearly 40 years after the original film released and has managed to bring back its original star. The original A Christmas Story achieved fame because of its ability to capture the nostalgia of childhood Christmases, as well as for embracing real-life family dynamics with a bit of dark humor. If A Christmas Story Christmas can remain true to the quirky, warm spirit that made A Christmas Story so successful, it might just be able to appeal to the huge and loyal fanbase of the original film.
