Ehh. I’m still not sold on him as Kirk, but I think he’d be ok as Hal. What I am NOT thrilled about is that the character is to be filled by someone under 30. TOTALLY wrong way to go. I know this was discussed earlier, but Hal NEEDS to be in his mid-to-late 30’s. Fillon would be better, IMO.

@Andy

Believe it or not, Pine was born in 1980 so he’s just about 30.

Adrian says:

I think he’s a decent choose and would fit in fairly well with Routh and/or Bale on the silver screen.
If fanboys think Pine is to young for GL then I’m very curious about the reaction to a young, up and coming actor playing the even more iconic role of Captian America.

Nathan Fillion…
WB Please???

I don’t think he’s the perfect choice, but he’s far from a bad choice. I could see it working.

I just want them to start shooting the damn movie already.

Ash Ali says:

Hey,

According to the people over at Latino Review, this is legit. And according to their sources “THE OFFICIAL OFFER is out Chris Pine for the role.”

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/offer-out-to-chris-pine-for-green-lantern-6408

Manowar says:

Well, after being blown away by the Star Trek trailers, I think he would make a great choice. I’m predicting Star Trek to be the movie of the year, so this will for sure help the Green Lantern Movie if Pine is choosen to “dawn” the “emerald” tights… :)

Daniel F says:

This makes me a little sad I thought they there were not going young with this film. I remember reading something like they were trying not to go with a young actor and were aiming for the early to mid 30’s.

I still put David Borianez (Sp?) as my first choice but Nathan Fillion is a great choice as well and by far the best one on that list. Not really sold on Chris Pine though I do actually like him as Kirk.

Manowar says:

I think they wanted a younger GL so that they can use same actor for sequels maybe even Justice League through the upcoming years. Both Supes and Bats actors are young aswell so they would all mesh together.

SK47 says:

First off, even though he is taking the role of James Tiberius Kirk, he will never be that! To quote the Kurgan: THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE! And that is William Shatner.

As for Green Lantern, Sam Worthington all the way. I like Fillion too, but Sam has T4 and Avator on the way, it is a good business decision for Warner Bros. That is, if Avator does not tank at the Box Office by some comedy or something.

@Ash Ali

Yeah, LR’s sources confirmed IESB’s.

Dunno too much about Pine but I’m open. A movie this big….it’s all about the script. For some reason I can’t seem to get Jon Hamm outta my head for the role. I know he’s too old and I understand they wanna start Jordan out during flight school which makes sense but Hamm has that superhero look.

Ash Ali says:

@ Daniel

Repeating what Vic said, Pine was born in ‘80. Which makes him 29, and 30 by the time filming starts. I wouldn’t consider this young. Mind you Matt Damon was only 30 when he filmed the first Bourne film, and he grew into the role nicely. Pine is at the right age for the first film. By the time they get to a third (assuming there will be one) he’ll be in his late 30’s.

Ash Ali says:

The people at Coming Attractions also confirmed the story. So now we have three sites (IESB, Latino Review, Coming Attractions) confirming their sources about the story that Pine has been offered the titular role.

@Ash Ali

There’s a battle going on regarding this rumor – Collider.com & CHUD.com say that it’s NOT true.

I’m siding with Latino Review and IESB on this one.

@ Vic

I really hope that this is the real deal. He seems to be a good fit for the role as Hal Jordan.

Rorschach says:

this could work

Daniel F says:

Even if he is 29 he looks very young. I was actually shocked to hear that he was 29 to be honest I had him pegged at 25 maybe 26. I’m assuming that’s the main reason for the casting.

I still do not nor will I ever understand the love of WIlliam Shatner the guy is one of the worst actors of the last 75 Years. The way he delivers lines is the same in everything he does and is always laughable. He is one of the major reason I never liked the original star Trek that and it was very Cheesy. TNG was a much better show. I think Pine has the ability to help make the original characters have a respectable sega.

Manowar says:

Shatner had his own style of acting. bery dramatic, i think from his days of doing shakespeare and theatre. C’mon, his commercials a priceless!!!

Ash Ali says:

Heh, get it, Priceless?

greenknight333 says:

They can do a lot worse…I just wish they’d make the movie with a great script..Was suprised to hear that Pine was 30 but you guys are fighting over the difference in what you thought his age was..there is no difference in a persons look from 25-30..he looks young regardless of how old he actually is…George Clooney would have been the perfect Hal Jordan 10 years ago but sadly that ship has sailed…too old now..

Manowar says:

Just like George Clooney was the perfect Batman…NOT!

Daniel F says:

As horrible of an actor as he is yea Shatner has the best commercials ever.

There is a diff in people’s looks from 25 – 30 especially depending on the person. Some people it is subtle some however make drastic changes. People can look different from 26 to 27 or 24 to 25 you would sometimes be surprised to look at a picture of your self that is only two years old.

John "Kahless" Taylor says:

So no one likes Denny Crane or TJ Hooker? Shatner has a big ego but he does entertain. I thought his version of Kirk in the movies (except #5) was great. I also thought he did a great job in the Twilight Zone episodes.

I’m all for Pine as Hal. Sure, there are better actors who could do it but there are far worse actors as well.

Ash Ali says:

Any new news on this since the offer was made?

@Ash Ali

Nope, sorry.

Man, I’ve been waiting a loooooong time to comment on this! I’ve been so busy the last few days. Now on with the post:

First, let me say that I think Chris Pine is a GREAT choice for Hal Jordan. He can look just like him, easily, and has got the acting chops to play Hal and is the right age for the origin story Hal. Plus he’s playing Captain Kirk, who in a lot of ways is just like Hal Jordan, I would be more than happy if he got the part. :D

…..Which brings me to my next subject: I’m not sure how likely it is to happen. For one thing, he’s gonna be the new face of Star Trek, and depending on how big of a hit Star Trek is, IMO, that may effect whether he gets the part or not. If Trek does great he will be getting all kinds of movie deals and everyone will remember him as Kirk, which may hinder him getting the GL role because he’ll be so well known as Kirk and sought after. If Trek bombs, he may not be wanted by ANY studios to spear-head their major tentpole films – so this is somewhat of a “damned if ya do, damned if ya don’t” type scenario, IMO. I hope it isn’t, I really hope it isn’t, but I’m afraid it might be. (I welcome any words someone may have to convince me otherwise, it would brighten my day :D )

Even so, Pine is the best person I can think of for the role at the moment, and I still hope he gets the part. :)

Hal says:

I think this up and coming should play Hal Jordan
