Who Should Play Catwoman? (Charlize Theron Shows Interest)

This just in! Charlize Theron wouldn’t mind playing Catwoman in the sequel to the second highest grossing film of all time, The Dark Knight. Well that entire last sentence would qualify for a big, fat “DUH!” Can you tell me one person that wouldn’t say “Yes” to star in a billion dollar franchise if asked? Megan Fox was recently rumored to be playing the feminine milk-drinking feline villain a few weeks ago but Warner Bros. execs were quick to shoot that down. It’s not a direct quote but I think the press release said something like, “Um, Hell No!”
During an STV interview that probably only consisted of some guy with a mini-voice recorder stalking her as she shopped for groceries, Theron said this:
“It’s news to me, but that’s kick-ass news. I like that… I think that what has happened to that franchise is amazing, and director Chris Nolan is a genius. So I would be an idiot to not consider that.”
Yes you would Ms. Theron; you would “be an idiot” to not consider being in Christopher Nolan’s film. The problem is that besides Megan “Jennifer’s Body Sucked” Fox, Angelina Jolie and Rachel Weisz have all been rumored to be slinking into the tight ripped leather pants and purr it up with Bruce Wayne. I’m almost positive that Theron is not the only woman in Hollywood that is lining up to be in the successful, revitalized Batman franchise.
Last December, we reported that Nolan planned on returning and there were rumors (ah, rumors) that Catwoman might be brought into the story. That makes sense because Bruce Wayne’s love interest was killed off at the end of The Dark Knight. We’ve already talked about the possibility of seeing Aaron Eckhart returning as Two Face and although we have discussed it, no official word has come down the return of The Joker.
If Theron does snag the role she will be following the likes of Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt and Michelle Pfeiffer. I know what you are thinking “Paul, you left out Halle Berry as Catwoman.” No! No I didn’t. That horrible excuse for an interpretation of Catwoman doesn’t deserve a mention.
We here at Screen Rant have been doing a lot speculating lately on what characters should be in up coming comic movies and the actors we think should play them. X-Men: First Class, Sinestro from Green Lantern, Fantastic Four reboot and more recently Captain America have all been popular areas for discussion. So let’s do the same thing for Catwoman.
Charlize Theron (Aeon Flux), Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider),Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) and Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) are all good choices (anyone notice I left out Megan Fox as a good choice?) but I’d rather see someone with much less exposure in the movie world. Not just bodily exposure (we’ve seen at least three of them topless or nude before) but also film exposure because all four have an extremely varied background in film and have been involved with at least one successful action film or franchise.
Of the four I just listed, Rhona Mitra is the only one I would consider for the role but let me give you the actress I would really like to see play Catwoman: Rosario Dawson. I think it would be nice to see the next Catwoman follow in actress Eartha Kitt’s shoes and be played by a black actress (I still refuse to acknowledge Halle Berry as an actress who played Catwoman). Rosario Dawson would be a solid choice because she’s attractive, can act and has done action films – the fact that she would look fantastic in leather doesn’t hurt either. She already has a pretty decent repertoire ranging from Sin City and Descent to Seven Pounds and the upcoming Unstoppable with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. If someone mentions Pluto Nash I will ignore you because I blame that failure on Eddie Murphy and not her.

She would make an excellent Catwoman. She was amazingly lethal in Monster and she morphed into that character so well, it was downright scary!
I am a marvel fan and I always thought that Catwoman had an innate sense of evil, like kissing Batman and throwing him off the rooftop…we need someone pretty special to pull that off and make it look authentic..
No Megan Fox please…we need somebody with real talent!!

I like the idea of Rosario Dawson to play Catwoman, she would look incredible in tight leather(which was the only thing good about Berry’s Catwoman).
catwoman is teh equivalent of robin for me…It would just look ridiculous one way or the other. I mean it could work but it would be a MAJOR stretch for me. I think that keeping it mob oriented with a hitman named the penguin or the riddler are the best and safest bets…somehow if the y manage to tie in the whole Falcone thing into this character I think it would work very nicely. Whoever tehy introduce I odnt think we need to dwell too much on their origin. In TDK Joker’s origin was left out and it worked. Focus on the story…I say a short pudgy mobster that walks with a limp.
(like a penguin) They could make him the son of one of the Falcones and have him out there looking for revenge on Batman. Maybe have him played by someone young and have this so called Penguin have an identity that is concealed from teh world

I’m with The Pitt Man and think AnnaLynne McCord would be PERFECT. Don’t know about her acting, only things I recognized her from were Transporter 2 (carjacking girl in the beginning) and I saw a few episodes of her in Nip/Tuck, but if you look at the pic her Wikipedia page has, that’s an absolute Catwoman look.

Some of the choices don’t make sense IMO. Anne Hathaway and Rosario Dawson have almost too innocent a face, Charlize I think would make a better Batwoman (don’t see that happening in any of Nolan’s films though) or even better, Poison Ivy. Angelina I don’t have much desire to see her in many films anymore (bit over exposed now) and Megan Fox I think needs to hone her acting chops before she’ll be taken seriously.
Not sure if this is her in the middle of that last image, but Rhianna isn’t a bad choice either if she’s looking to getting into acting.

Wow I never thought of Rhianna, she would look amazing as Cat Woman, just don’t know about her acting ability, so wouldn’t risk it. I don’t know, I just don’t really see Charlize or Rosaria in the role either.
I would think Natalie Portman or Kate Beckinsale would fit the part better. To me the best Cat Woman so far was Michelle Pfeiffer. She was sexy and dangerous and tortured with just the right amount of psycotic…she made you scared to death of her, yet you didn’t want to leave her side. I think Natalie or Kate could do that again.
But I was thinking, when I first heard that Heath Ledger was playing Joker, I thought “What?!? thats ridiculous, he doesn’t fit the Joker…and look what a surprise he was…so I’m thinking I’ll throw in some unexpected names that I think could really surprise us…Gwenyth Paltrow and Stana Katic (Castle)…BAM! Thats right, I said it. Gwenyth is just awesome in every part I’ve seen her in and can really play the mysterious side when she wants to. Look up Stana Katic if you don’t know who she is. Google imager her and you’ll see some surprising photo’s that show that Cat Woman look that you may not have realized she could pull off. Anyway, thats my two cents.
If they put Catwoman in it, they would have to make her really badass (hopefully I’m allowed to say that!) otherwise I think it’s a bad idea because from my (limited) knowledge she does not seem to fit in with Nolan’s version of Batman. Having a hot actress in that costume would be nice though if she could act and fit in well!
I love the idea of Rosario Dawson as Catwoman. She is a terrific actress. I actually thought the same thing a few years ago when she was in Sin City. I could see her as Catwoman definately!

Considering Nolan’s casting choices so far, I would say that if he has CATWOMAN in his last chapter in his BATMAN trilogy, he will most likely cast an acclaimed INDEPENDENT FILM actress. To me, the only actress that fits this category is Rachel MacAdams (The Notebook, Time Traveler’s Wife, etc) She’s the female version of a Christian Bale or Heath Ledger. (They also come from independent films). Theron is a great actress but too big of a name for a Nolan movie. (Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine are amazing actors but not ‘bankable’ names like Theron). I would love to see catwoman in the next movie, hopefully, it would be a great character (hated what they did with Halle Berry’s movie). Also, I would not like to see Robin, but it would be cool if they show him as the grief stricken Dick Grayson at the end as a ‘wink’ to fans but never in costume.
If Rihanna can be considered to play Catwoman, why not go for the gusto and have Beyonce or J-Lo? Why not Pennelope Cruz? any of them would be better than Rihanna. Why not Jada Pinket-Smith? Or, like I said, how about Bruce’s Black secretary…or even Nona Gaye?
BTW, Charlize Theron is the only blonde whose name is being bandied about for Wonder Woman. If she does Catwoman, Wonder woman is off the table for her. Which would you rather see her play?
BTW…there’s one other actress people aren’t mentioning who would be absolutely fantastic as Catwoman AND Selena Kyle…Demi Moore! All you have to do is watch her in Charlie’s Angels or Disclosure (seducing, er raping Michael Douglas) and you’ll be convinced.
Here’s another choice: Eva Mendez! I would love to see a Latina play the part. Her story could be that her father is white, hence the Swedish/Scottish/English/Gaelic last name.
BTW:
The name Selina means “the moon”.
The name Kyle means “narrow channel/narrow ‘body’ of water”.
How do those two names add up to someone whose alter-ego is Catwoman? I can see the moon’s influence on the Catwoman, but the narrow body of water is a mystery.

The reason I mentioned Ann Hathaway is to have the contrast between sweet, naive Selena Kyle (which she can play in her sleep) and sexy, dangerous Catwoman. If you cast someone sexy and dangerous as Selena then Catwoman is only a costume she puts on, not a change of personality (which I think is the better angle).
It could work having an obvious ‘Catwoman type’ playing Selena Kyle but it’s far easier to vamp it up than tone it down imo.

Gwynneth would be another candidate for the whole ‘opposites’ aspect I was going for and I considered her as well but as she’s currently in Iron Man 2 (at least, probably 3 or 4 as well depending on IM2′s success) I didn’t include her.
They should have a tarring role for Batgirl, something as graphic and sexual as the Halle Barry movie ‘ Catwoman ‘
Personally, I prefer a realitive unknown. A little experience. A cult following. Kinda like how Christian Bale was.

I actually heard someone mention Emily Brunt some time last year when the rumors were running crazy about a third Batman film. (Remember when there was that Cher rumor?. And I actually agree with that choice, she’s gorgrous, and she is a great actress. I think she would actually suit the role really well and they would certainly make the right changes to fit that character into the real world Batman universe they have created.
