Who Should Play Catwoman? (Charlize Theron Shows Interest)

This just in! Charlize Theron wouldn’t mind playing Catwoman in the sequel to the second highest grossing film of all time, The Dark Knight. Well that entire last sentence would qualify for a big, fat “DUH!” Can you tell me one person that wouldn’t say “Yes” to star in a billion dollar franchise if asked? Megan Fox was recently rumored to be playing the feminine milk-drinking feline villain a few weeks ago but Warner Bros. execs were quick to shoot that down. It’s not a direct quote but I think the press release said something like, “Um, Hell No!”
During an STV interview that probably only consisted of some guy with a mini-voice recorder stalking her as she shopped for groceries, Theron said this:
“It’s news to me, but that’s kick-ass news. I like that… I think that what has happened to that franchise is amazing, and director Chris Nolan is a genius. So I would be an idiot to not consider that.”
Yes you would Ms. Theron; you would “be an idiot” to not consider being in Christopher Nolan’s film. The problem is that besides Megan “Jennifer’s Body Sucked” Fox, Angelina Jolie and Rachel Weisz have all been rumored to be slinking into the tight ripped leather pants and purr it up with Bruce Wayne. I’m almost positive that Theron is not the only woman in Hollywood that is lining up to be in the successful, revitalized Batman franchise.
Last December, we reported that Nolan planned on returning and there were rumors (ah, rumors) that Catwoman might be brought into the story. That makes sense because Bruce Wayne’s love interest was killed off at the end of The Dark Knight. We’ve already talked about the possibility of seeing Aaron Eckhart returning as Two Face and although we have discussed it, no official word has come down the return of The Joker.
If Theron does snag the role she will be following the likes of Julie Newmar, Lee Meriwether, Eartha Kitt and Michelle Pfeiffer. I know what you are thinking “Paul, you left out Halle Berry as Catwoman.” No! No I didn’t. That horrible excuse for an interpretation of Catwoman doesn’t deserve a mention.
We here at Screen Rant have been doing a lot speculating lately on what characters should be in up coming comic movies and the actors we think should play them. X-Men: First Class, Sinestro from Green Lantern, Fantastic Four reboot and more recently Captain America have all been popular areas for discussion. So let’s do the same thing for Catwoman.
Charlize Theron (Aeon Flux), Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider),Rachel Weisz (The Mummy) and Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) are all good choices (anyone notice I left out Megan Fox as a good choice?) but I’d rather see someone with much less exposure in the movie world. Not just bodily exposure (we’ve seen at least three of them topless or nude before) but also film exposure because all four have an extremely varied background in film and have been involved with at least one successful action film or franchise.
Of the four I just listed, Rhona Mitra is the only one I would consider for the role but let me give you the actress I would really like to see play Catwoman: Rosario Dawson. I think it would be nice to see the next Catwoman follow in actress Eartha Kitt’s shoes and be played by a black actress (I still refuse to acknowledge Halle Berry as an actress who played Catwoman). Rosario Dawson would be a solid choice because she’s attractive, can act and has done action films – the fact that she would look fantastic in leather doesn’t hurt either. She already has a pretty decent repertoire ranging from Sin City and Descent to Seven Pounds and the upcoming Unstoppable with Denzel Washington and Chris Pine. If someone mentions Pluto Nash I will ignore you because I blame that failure on Eddie Murphy and not her.

Did they even offer the part to Charlize Theron or is she just saying this is a role she’d like to have? Is it even official that Catwoman will even be in the next film? I’d rather not see her in Chris Nolan’s films, at least not now anyway.
Rachel Weisz is the best choice for the role.
I vote to not put catwoman in the film. So many good bad guys worth exploring why waste our time on her. Also if you have to put in that waste of space at least don’t make it rosario dawson.

Catwoman won’t be in Batman 3. I can guarantee you that much. Yes, Nolan hasn’t even written the script yet so there’s really no telling who the villains will be, but after Batman Begins he did an interview where he said that he’d never use The Penguin or Catwoman in any of his films. He didn’t say that he’d think about them, he didn’t say they were unlikely, he said that he would NEVER use them. So end of story.
I’d definitely prefer Talia al Ghul to Catwoman. Talia would just tie the trilogy up nicely, since Dark Knight kinda didn’t even mention the Ra’s al Ghul incident.
Now, Rosario Dawson isn’t a bad choice, however I’d argue that she has had just as much “bodily exposure” as the other choices you’ve listed, so it’s kind of hypocritical to suggest her. She’s been in a successful action movie, Sin City, and we’ve seen her topless.
My choice would go to Olga Kurylenko. I’d prefer her as Talia, but I can see her in the catsuit, too. Of course, she’s been in two moderately-successful action flicks, and we’ve seen her topless, too, so… whatever.

I’m with these guys hoping we don’t have a Catwoman. If we do, Charlize is a wonderful choice! Physically and she’s a decent actress. I don’t see how Catwoman would fit in the Nolan films though.

You guys are overlooking one big factor. There could be many interesting ways to introduce and slowly develop Selena Kyle and leave Catwoman out of the equation…for now. Selena Kyle doesn’t have to be Catwoman in the movie she shows up in. Selena Kyle can appear as Selena Kyle and just BE Selena Kyle, Bruce Wayne’s love interest (ala Vicky Vale, except with more screen time and over more movies)…and that could be it.
She doesn’t have to lose her friggin’ mind and become Catwoman until B4 or B5. Bruce needs a love interest, right?
Put him through some regular dating rigors: a playboy billionaire who can’t stay faithful to one woman and who, as we know, never seems to have enough time for her (at night, at least), a super-sexy and smart, overambitious glamor gal who already has a dark side (but in a normal sense), and a kinky side.
With him stealing away time to bone her during bathroom breaks during board meetings, that could be exciting and humorous. Bring Batman/Bruce down to Earth with some normalcy.
Have her snoop the site of the almost finished mansion and discover a weird (but yet, unused cave). Develop her character over the span of a few movies and leave the audience wondering. Put her in a love triangle with Bruce and Edward Nigma, or with Bruce and Talia Al Guhl. Play with it!
That would be a way to introduce her w/o bringing in Catwoman just yet. And can we get a lesbian love scene? Well…scratch that last one, but you get my point.

I like that idea, Selena til maybe the end of B3 when she starts the transformation or even until the end of B4. Allow us to invest in her human side, let Bruce fall in love, let him consider hanging up his cowl and then boom, Catwoman. Ah if only…
I’d like to see Ann Hathaway in the role tbh, I think she’d bring a naivety and sweetness to contrast to Catwoman.

Oh yeah…as for who should play her? Not Charlize Theron…she’s Batgirl, not Catwoman. She’s too wholesome. I vote for Megan Fox!
A little off-topic: Had they cast Jessica Alba as Rachael Dawes, as I had suggested, they would not have had to kill her off and the tug of war between Harvey Dent and Bruce Wayne would have been more believable. They gave the part to Maggie-G b/c of her brother’s relationship w/Heath Ledger…and that’s the main reason.
She just wasn’t hot enough for the part and the romantic angles were not believable. Those two men would not even want to shag Maggie-G, let alone marry her.

Who would you cast as Catwoman? A few years ago, I thought the part was tailor-made for Angelina Jolie. But, she’s too well known.
I like the idea of a lesser known actress for the part. And that would be in keeping with Nolan’s M.O. He like’s stars, but not “superstars”…save for Heath Ledger. But, his choice as Joker was interesting b/c most people thought he couldn’t pull it off.
So if he goes with a superstar for Catwoman, he should be looking for a less obvious choice, as he did with Ledger for Joker. If he can get the same level of commitment from that actress, we will get another great movie.

From Paul’s picks, I like the idea of having Rosario Dawson playing Catwoman. It would be a good change to see a Latina playing the infamous bad-girl. But if I had to choose an actress to play the role, I would love to see Shannyn Sossamon dawn the Catwoman costume. I think Sossamon has a fresher face, as she hasn’t been as exposed as the other choices. Plus, Shannyn has a sexy, exotic look that i think will compliment the Catwoman character very well
Just remember one thing: it appears that Selena Kyle would be the focal point for at least the duration of 1-2 movies, completely w/o Catwoman. Do you think Rosario Dawson can pull that off while later becoming Catwoman? Would an audience even like seeing her for three movies or so?
I am curious as to whether that Black secretary from the first movie (the one Bruce was teaching how to putt when he came back) could be Selena Kyle. She had the cafe’ olay skin tone and cat-like eyes that would make her right for the part. And Christopher Nolan likes unknown or lesser known actors.
Other posters agree that Selena Kyle should be introduced but sustained as just Selena Kyle for awhile. That’s a different dynamic.
Megan Fox would be a better choice.
Rosario would be great but better as Storm for X-men 4.

I love Charlize Theron! Sick of Angelina Jolie. Megan Fox has the figure to pull off the costume & give it justice, but her acting “abilities” are still yet to be seen. So far she is just another pretty face & great body IMHO.

Please God, NO Megan Fox in ANY superhero film. Yeah, she’s hot, but her acting is horrible. If she’s cast in Batman 3, it would automatically ruin the movie. Yes, RUIN the movie. I like Charlize Theron and I think she’d make a great Catwoman. However, I really hope that they don’t use that character. It’s been done to death and I really would love to see Nolan go with a lesser known villain. Besides, Megan Fox would NEVER be classy looking enough to be with Bruce Wayne…she would be a good stripper/call girl though. LOL.
