As far as introductions go, the new look of the re-imagined Charlie’s Angels cast isn’t half bad – if you’re browsing through the latest Talbot’s catalogue.

Starring Minka Kelly (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood), Annie Ilonzeh (Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief) and Rachael Taylor (Transformers, Grey’s Anatomy), Charlie’s Angels is all but locked into a spot on the ABC fall schedule.

In an effort to keep fans aware of the goings-on in Charlie’s Angels, ABC has issued a new image of the fetching crime-fighters that is high on fetching and low on crime fighting.

It’s hard to tell where the network is going with this image. The girls certainly seem like they’re enjoying one another’s company (they are actresses after all), but beyond that there is precious little to go on. Unless the Charlie’s Angels 3.0 sees itself as a heartfelt interchange on the merits of twenty-something female relationships, the pic gives no hint as to the tone of the actual program.

While the image lacks any real information for the forthcoming show, we do know that unlike the light-hearted, physics-defying romps starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu, this won’t be your father’s – or slightly-older brother’s Charlie’s Angels. ABC promises the new show will be a “fairly serious, non-campy” version of the characters.

Initial reports suggest that in this grim-and-gritty loving world we find ourselves in, the women in Charlie’s employ are actually going to be reformed criminals who are offered the opportunity to make amends for their crimes – as opposed to the disenchanted police cadets of the first series. Like the late 1970s program, however, each episode will be a self-contained story -- with a clear resolution at the end of each installment. Though certain plot elements will carry over from one week to the next, the show will largely be a one-and-done exercise like Hawaii Five-O and NCIS.

Character details remain mostly under wraps, but one of the girls is reportedly a con artist and another is an ex-Marine with some serious weapons training. The third ‘Angel’ purportedly had her role re-written prior to the pilot’s late-April start date - so it'll be a little while before we get the full details on the third crime fighter.

Because ABC has other, more original, offerings in the works like Poe and AKA Jessica Jones, it may be hard to take a third helping of Charlie’s Angels seriously; however, the series does have some real talent behind it. Smallville creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar are executive producing and giving the pilot’s script a spit-shine - so that certainly bodes well for the show’s initial offering. How well it will be received from them on is still very much up in the air.

Expect to see Charlie’s Angels debut sometime this fall on ABC.
