[UPDATE: All the images have been pulled at the request of Paramount]

In May, we got our first look at two of the main characters in M. Night Shyamalan’s upcoming epic, The Last Airbender. They featured Dev Patel and young Noah Ringer in full costume as Prince Zuko and Aang respectively.

Adding to that, today we have for you some character portraits that reveal some of the other key characters you may have been wondering about: Sokka & Katara. We also have some first-looks at all four bending powers in action.

Katara is a waterbender and brother of Sokka who doesn’t have any powers himself, but acts as the comic relief and heart of the adventurers becoming a brave warrior and strategist as the story unfolds. The pair join Aang and help him on his journey of becoming the Avatar.

Check out the following picture which reveals characters using all four forms of bending: air, water, fire and earth:

The special effects should look amazing in the movie and I can’t way to see the four types of bending on screen.

That’s not all! Pages 2 & 3 have the four new character images.

The cast for The Last Airbender was initially announced last December but was quickly met with criticism for some alleged racist casting decisions. Later, some non-Caucasian actors were added to the film’s roster including Slumdog Millionaire’s Dev Patel who is playing Prince Zuko.

Here are Aang and Katara:

Aang and Zuko look fine to me and although there have been changes to Zuko’s look from the television show, I’m confident Patel will pull of that character very well.

That being said, I personally find Jackson Rathbone’s Sokka and Nicola Peltz’ Katara look nothing like their cartoon counterparts. I look forward to seeing how they play their characters in the film.

From what we’ve been hearing and seeing the movie overall, it seems that we Avatar: The Last Airbender fans my be in for a treat and that M. Night may make his comeback into the favor of many displeased fans. He’s seemingly putting a lot of focus on detail in re-creating the world and mythos from the show and if that recent teaser trailer is any indication, this movie and its sequels may be something special for movie-going audiences.

What do you think of the live-action versions of the key characters?

The Last Airbender opens July 2, 2010.
