Channing Tatum's got a problem, not a bad problem necessarily, but one that's not going to go away. He's in talks to play a Marvel superhero. A longtime fan of the X-Men hero Gambit, Tatum is in talks to play the character in the film franchise and because it's been a very public ordeal, he cannot escape questions about it.

While promoting 22 Jump Street, most interviewers squeezed in a question or two about him potentially playing the Ragin' Cajun in an X-Men film. With the buzz and success of X-Men: Days of Future Past still in the air, the idea of Tatum playing Gambit in the followup, X-Men: Apocalypse, is a hot topic.

Before we continue, it's important to note that Channing Tatum has not signed on with Twentieth Century Fox to play Gambit. At this point, it's just talks of ideas and plans for what Tatum wants to be a solo origin film for the character - one he describes as different from most superhero movies we see. If you ask X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner however, or Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinberg, Tatum's confirmed to play the character. Again, that's unofficially confirmed.

When we spoke with Tatum last week, he told us that it'd be a "dream" to play the character, even if that means showing up in some small way in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse before getting his own spinoff - something director Bryan Singer indirectly hinted at when he expressed interest in re-introducing Gambit in Apocalypse. Tatum also told us about costume ideas and trying to make it right and believe - headband and all. Of course, what may be the most important character trait to get right will be the character's Cajun accent, something Tatum said a while back that he wanted to do.

In chatting with LR, Tatum opened up Gambit's accent, expressing again his passion in making the character something unique on screen. And it's something he'll have to work at:

"I would say we're going to try to do something a little bit different. I don't know how to exactly explain it just yet, but he's a 'character' character. He's got a serious Cajun accent. I don't know if you've heard a Cajun accent but it's - I mean, we're going to have to have subtitles sometimes (laughs). He has almost a Jedi mind trick thing that I want to try put in where he speaks patois and so I'm going to have to learn patois which is going to be hard. But, we'll see."

The Jedi mindtrick thing is part of Gambit's hypnotic charm, something he uses to influence people, so it's clear Tatum wants to flesh out this character a lot. As for the voice, Gambit (real name: Remy LeBeau) was born in New Orleans, Louisiana and the patois (French word for local dialect) refers to the native language of the area.

Tatum knows his stuff but if we do get a solo film first, we'll see Gambit as a thief before he suits up with the full X-Men costume from the comics - it simply wouldn't fit in the real-world the films try to base themselves in. Even in Days of Future Past, there were no costumes in the '70s (the majority of the movie) outside of Michael Fassbender's Magneto getup.

Does Channing Tatum's passion and knowledge of Remy LeBeau, and interest in putting the work in to do the voice, convince you that's he's a good pick to play Gambit?
