Volvo operates a Certified Pre-Owned car (CPO) program that allows people to purchase high-quality used electric vehicles, and while it's a standard initiative, what should buyers expect? CPO vehicles aren't the same as regular used cars. Before any used car receives the CPO tag, automakers will run a series of tests and checks to make sure it meets their requirements. Typically, the criteria for inclusion in the program varies from the vehicle retaining the automaker’s genuine parts to having a decent maintenance history. Currently, Volvo’s CPO program comprises the XC40 Recharge, XC60, and XC90 Plug-in Hybrid.

Volvo has taken a stab at building an EV portfolio, with the XC40 Recharge SUV and C40 Recharge crossover available for purchase. It recently unveiled the EX90, a seven-seater SUV intended to bolster its strength in the EV scene. The company’s electrification blueprint also involves making the charging process convenient for customers, as demonstrated by its partnership with DC fast charging provider Electrify America. Buyers of its electric models get rewarded with free charging for three years.

Volvo claims that its lineup of CPO vehicles are just as good as its new cars. Buyers will also access perks like comprehensive inspection standards, a five-year unlimited warranty with round-the-clock roadside assistance, a free one-year subscription to the Volvo Cars mobile app, a vehicle history report with a buyback guarantee, and more. Pre-owned Volvos are subjected to a rigorous 170+ point test covering critical components like the brakes, airbags, and steering. This ensures that drivers enjoy the same quality of safety that a new Volvo gets.

Transferable Warranty At No Charge

Those who sell their pre-owned Volvo vehicle can transfer the warranty to subsequent buyers at no extra charge. The warranty covers the replacement or repair of faulty parts like the engine and suspension. Volvo’s roadside assistance package includes roadside services like tire changes, emergency towing, emergency lockout service, and trip interruption. A notable feature of the Volvo Cars App is remote control access which allows drivers to start, stop, and unlock the vehicle from their smartphone or smartwatch.

As part of efforts to shore up Volvo CPO vehicles’ entertainment options, the automaker rewards buyers of pre-owned cars with three months of access to SiriusXM radio’s all-access package. Drivers get over 150 channels with SiriusXM’s programming on the infotainment screen, smartphone, tablet, or laptop. The channels cut across categories like commercial-free music, exclusive entertainment and talk, and family and kids programming.

Volvo’s CPO program caters to the needs of those interested in owning a used car that meets high standards. The perks of ownership are reasonable and should be leveraged by anyone in the market for a pre-owned car, or those looking to invest in an electric Volvo at a more accessible price. Future buyers should note that only authorized Volvo dealers can conduct the inspection to certify a car as pre-owned.
