Captain America Submarine Photos Captain America Submarine Photos & New Set Video

The Captain America: The First Avenger shoot continues to provide small glimpses into one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2011.

A week ago we posted the first images of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Today, we’re giving you a look at a sleek-looking submarine prop, presumably of HYDRA manufacture, as well as new video and images from the aforementioned Manchester shoot with Chris Evans.

The submarine images come courtesy of The Liverpool Daily Post, who report that local port, Stanley Dock (which is on the River Mersey) has been a hotbed for fan speculation – some believed filmmakers were even building a full-scale German U-Boat. Speculation aside, Joe Johnston and his team have made some cosmetic alterations to the area, creating a 1940s era New York set – with a few fictional Marvel Universe embellishments.

While currently unconfirmed, it’s not a stretch to assume the newly revealed submarine belongs to the fictional terrorist organization, HYDRA. Not only does it lack the kind of patriotic flare we’d expect from a Captain America vehicle (which normally feature a red, white, and blue color palette – or at least the iconic Captain America star) but the design also matches up nicely with the HYDRA motorcycles we saw a few weeks back.

Check out the images of the HYDRA submarine below:

In addition, we’ve got new photos and video from last week’s Steve Rogers on the go shoot featuring an extremely buff Chris Evans running in prosthetic feet.

The video is a fun glimpse into production and the images offer a few new details on the events that unfold in the scene – including Evans’ stunt double tackling a gun-toting stunt woman.

Check out the set video and images below:

What do you think of the design of the HYDRA vehicles we’ve seen so far? What else would you like to see make the jump from the pages of the Captain America comic books to the big screen?

Chris Evans stars alongside Neal McDonough’s Dum Dum Dugan, Tommy Lee Jones,Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull, Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, and Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. Captain America is of course, directed by Joe Johnston.

  1. This will be a complete failure there were no NY license plates in that time frame that started with GT. Epic Fail.

Im kidding…. I’m beginning to think this is going to be the closest to a comic book we have ever seen….. :D

    • More than Watchmen? Some of the shots in that movie were to completely mimic the graphic novel… :D

      • I think so. The thing with WM you had 12 issues. You had 1 story line and you had “x” amount of characters. You should have been able to that page for page.

With Cap you have a lifetime of characters, artist, writers, stories etc… So it can go a lot of ways. From what I am seeing it will look like a live comic book so to speak.

The outrageous Hydra vehicles (for that time) is one thing im basing it on. Dont confuse my thought process with campy… it can be comic booky and not be campy.

I dont know if that conveyed what Im thinking well enough… let me know and I will try to explain it further.

        • I agree with foopher… Watchmen was almost identical… Cap is good… but is it correct? weve only seen still shots so far… by looking at it, its awesome…

          • I’m not saying it won’t be like the comics, I’m just saying that Watchmen was the most spot on comic movie I’ve seen.

            • However wasnt a few key elements changed because the “public” just wouldn’t understand it and or cut for time?

With these pictures they seem to be taking the approach of hey the comic had these Hydra people that had off the wall tech and created things that regular people dont have.

Instead of trying to “fit” it to believability or make it so the public can better embrace it. It is a comic book for crying out loud. I want to see the 100 story giant wheel and swastika terrorizing DC!!! (ok that amy be a little out there but it would be cool to have that in the background…)

Im not saying it will (I hope not) be dummied(?) down.

  2. Starting to see a greater influx of material from this movie and I have to say it is welcomed and about dang time!!

  3. I’m not up to speed on things maybe, but is Captain America (Chris Evans) going to be in the Avengers movie? Will there be a significant time difference? It seemed to me that the Avengers would be modern, so I’m wondering how these 2 movies will mesh together.

    • Go watch Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2.

      • Ah, thanks.

    • wilef,

My understanding is that the Cap movie ends with him frozen in ice and the Avengers movie opens with them finding him.

      Vic

      • YES!….I wish the edit room would of replaced the lost ice footage in the Hulk for the theatrical relase. At least it was included in BD.

      • I don’t the film will end with him being found frozen because he has a modern costume and it has been stated he will wear different costumes througout the film so he will probably be found frozen just after halfway through the film or something….. My best and only guess of how the movie will end is – Nick Fury tells Steve Rogers he would like Steve to meet some people, they start walking and open a door, in the room we see Tony Stark with his new suit on, except for his helmet, drinking coffee, and we see Thor playing with a rubic’s cube, hawkeye playing darts, and Black Widow on the pc, and on the background of the room a newsreport of strange happenings across the world and hulk on the rampage in ny. The the screen will go black with a hint of the avengers theme music or something.

        • Sounds awesome!

  4. I think the submarine would make a better Cap than Evans.

    • LOL Scott….I was thinking the same thing!

  5. im concerned about the amount of info this film has to cover since there will be no cap 2 before the avengers. caps origin, red skull’s origin, howling comandoes, invaders, sheild, hydra, bucky, and the events that lead to cap being frozen (and the red skull being trapped in animation, if its included). even if the film is 3 hours long, its a staggering feat. im still looking forward to it. bring on the red skull pix.

    • Shouldn’t be a problem if it story tells well. Case in point Ironman and his sets of armor.

We never saw live the different versions and or upgrades however based on the naming scheme and some “clutter” in the background etc it was assumed he had made other armor.

I also dont think they will get that down in the weeds. Im thinking from the time we learn of Cap and his origin we will have a fast forward in time to when he last meets Red Skull b4 being frozen. That permits the film makers to go back and add a movie or two based on that time frame covering the Invaders, Howling Commandos, etc.

  6. Its been said the Cap movie will have Modern bookends so we will see them find him in the begining i feel and then the movie will proceed ala flashback and end with him coming out of being forzen, the movie in it self i beleive will cover all of cap’s adventures up to the point of him being frozen this movie is looking great

  7. What’s with the feet? Are those tights with grips on the bottom? Am I missing something?

    • They’re prosthetics. They’re fake shoes made to look like feet so that it appears he’s running barefoot on screen, but makes it easy for Evans and the stunt double to run without injury. Running barefoot hurts, I can’t imagine making an actor or stunt double do it over and over for shots.

  8. After seeing those pics posted by Keyes, I have to say I’m feeling better about Evans as cap.

For me he has that 21st century look (like how Sam Worthington looked completely out of place in titans->that movie still would have blowed anyway) and cap always was a man out of his timeline.

  9. For some reason that video made me think of Star Trek TOS episode “Amok Time.”

  10. Batman called, he wants his sub back.

  11. Evans morphed into the look he needed, surprisingly – so that’s one positive. Two, the set looks great.

Like with any new movie, we’ll have to wait and see how the story is told and if the acting is up to snuff.

I always though Cap was one of the less interesting superheroes but Im actually becoming interested enough now that I might actually go the theater to see this.

Side-thought: Is it really possible Evans packed on that much muscle in just a few months or is it likely he’s been on steroids?

  12. the trouble i am having with the submarine is how much it looks like a salt fats race car, but otherwise im ok with it so far by the way yes they did have NY plates ..all cars ere required license plates goes way back to the early 1920s
