Robert Downey Jr. trolls about giving Captain America back his shield in time for Avengers: Endgame. Playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU, the actor kicked off the franchise in 2008 with Jon Favreau's Iron Man. And over the years, he's become the poster boy for the universe. In the narrative, Stark has gone through ups and downs, including a falling out with Chris Evans' Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War wherein the latter left the shield to Howard Stark's son. The two remain separated throughout the events of Avengers: Infinity War with their much-anticipated reunion saved for the Phase 3 capper.

Hailed as the most-anticipated blockbuster of the year by Fandango, Endgame will be the culmination of the MCU's Infinity Saga - the 22-film arc that the franchise started more than a decade ago. Plot details are tightly under wraps but with the reunion of the core six Avengers also comes with the notion that this potentially could be their final outing as a team with some of them possibly biting the bullet. Considering that Stark and Cap are two of the universe's trinity (the other one being Thor), many are looking forward to them burying the hatchet for one specific goal - defeat Thanos and avenge those who have fallen after The Decimation. Alongside their inevitable reunion is also the notion that Cap will finally reacquire his shield after going without it in Infinity War.

Rogers may just have it if Stark hands it back in time for their upcoming fight with Thanos in Endgame, and Downey makes sure to poke fun at the situation via a short social media video. Taking it to his official Instagram account, the actor teased about handing the super soldier his shield as he stood in front of a massive statue for Cap's iconic weapon. Downey mulled about potentially giving "it" back to "him," unfortunately, it won't be today. Watch the hilarious clip below:

Fans know from the official footage released for Endgame that Cap will have his shield back. The second trailer showed him tightening the grips of the shield as he engages in an intense battle in what looks like a dystopian backdrop. Considering that the film plays with timelines and perhaps may even have a non-linear storytelling, it's difficult to pinpoint at what point in the movie this takes place which in turn adds to the mystery of how and when he's going to start using his shield again. But since the gang's all back at Avengers HQ at the beginning of the narrative, there's a chance that he can get his weapon back without the need for Tony to hand it to him. After all, they didn't know whether Tony would return, so Cap may take it upon himself to reclaim the shield.

All that being said, for the sake of dramatic storytelling, it would be better for fans to actually see Stark personally giving back Cap's shield. It would be a powerful moment between the two especially considering the fact that Steve intentionally lied about knowing that the Starks' death was no accident. Since the poignant moment between the two characters on Avengers: Endgame special look may not even be in the film, this exchange, however it pans out, will be one of the most iconic moments of the movie.
